    My horse and I are usually in each other's space. I can't very well groom, ride and care for him without touching him and he is quite affectionate. I don't need the leadrope. He will do what I ask because I taught him it's safe for him if I call the shots. If he's near me I can see what's in his eyes which is what alerts me to any potential problem which is what keeps me safe, not distance.
