A lot of their recordings are done in Scott's house but this was done in a room on tour in Switzerland, as you say, in one take. No jiggery-pokery with autotune or multi-tracking. Good, timeless musicianship, that's all.

Hello, proud pinoy over here. I'd like to apologize on behalf of all the dislikes on this video. I've noticed a pattern where any reactors say anything even slightly negative about a filipino artist (or in your case liking a non-filipino artist over another a filipino artist) that video would get a ton of dislikes which is sad and I apologize.

They hit the nail in the head by commenting the range and variety of tones Haley can belt out. The power, the hi notes, the rasp and the control is all there. Sarah is good also but very theatrical. I'm a pinoy but hats off to Haley in this challenge

I'm sorry but there truly is no comparison. Haley fucking killed it. Seriously, I can't even tell you how many times I've heard her sing it and listen other reviews. She's simply amazing and I don't believe that she gets the credit that she deserves. Haley sings from her heart and soul and we can actually feel it. She's great! By the way, Postmodern Jukebox does all their recordings live. It's not in a studio. She sings inside, outside, on the sofa, and so forth. That's all her and the band. I subscribed because I love your remarks and your reactions. I absolutely love music and all genres . Haley has it all! You should listen to Morgan James. She's also very good. These ladies can take any song and make it their own. Now, that is soul!

Emphasis on melodrama, not drama, by Sarah at the expense of good singing that she is capable of.
Both singers approached the song in a differently. One is with theatrics (sarah geronimo is also a an actress), one is pure singing.
Sarah was done from the perspective of a depressed social outcast, the other rendition is more light emotionally speaking. By the way, saeah geronimo was sick and not feeling well when she performed.
Everytime I watch Hailey sing this song when she finishes I need a cigarette and to rush downtown to give 3 Hail Marys . She smashes that song. I ADORE Hailey. Nobody approaches Hailey Reinharts version.
I’m a Filipino but i prefer Haley’s version. It was really good. Ive been a fan of her since American Idol.
So i also did watch Sarah Gs Version but I cannot really choose between the two because they both really have a different approach to the song and they both nailed it. Sarah's rendition is what i want to see in bigger concert arena's like it is what i would expect. Hailey on the other hand is what i would play in my studio apartment while chillin. 😉

Haley wasn't signed to a major record label. If you're not signed to a major record label, no one gets to hear her music on the radio. Nonetheless, her "Can't Help Falling in Love" tune somehow became a gold record organically without any major record label backing, support, and promotion, which in this day and age is virtually unheard of, and all the major record labels took notice and soon came knocking on Haley's door competing against each other to try to sign her to their major record labels. Meanwhile, Haley intentionally dragged out the process to ensure she got the best deal possible before finally signing a new record deal with a major record label. She is currently in the studios right now writing and recording a new album to be released by her new major record label sometimes in late spring or early summer. So stay tuned, as Haley is soon to become far bigger than she is today.

Literally every comment on her choosing sarahs version over Haleys is because that Haleys version isn't "live". Such a shame that people aren't seeing Haley for the truly incredible, genuine vocalist that she is. Folks, these riffs and runs in this video are HER. Completely not edited, and you'd see that if you saw her live performances of this song (and many others!). Not only jazz. but rock, pop, blues. Hell, she can do whistle notes, scats, growls, and even yodel!! And above all, she's capable of intuitively switching up songs in live performances which not many artists can do because they have their rehearsed song in mind. Haley's version here is just a feast to the ears...I have heard a lot of other versions of Creep and she definitely tops em all. But then i just heard Sarah's cover as in just now and mind you its LIVE - in concert and not studio based..Both singers gave me goose pimples, both radiated deep emotional content that just mesmerizes any listener. ... but Sarah's flew me to some unknown space that made me teary eyed. I love both of them ..excellent artists in their own right..it would be unfair to compare who is best.
i like them both bcoz they give different style but i prefer sarahs version because it was live and anything can happen but she managed to sound good and give the right emotion that is needed in the song.you can feel every word on that song...

I'm so happy you decided to bring up the fact that sarahs version is live! However, that's where you made a mistake lol. Haley Reinhart Is notorious for being a much better singer live than in her recorded tracks(which is why I'm not crazy for her albums, but am in love with her voice live. for some reason, studio processing and editing takes away tremendously on her already incredible voice). Also, a little tid bit, the track you played in this video was recorded on the first take with no edits in Europe on their tour last year. There was no pre-practice. I can redirect you to a video of her singing this live at the O2 in london if you'd like! :). (I also loved sarahs version, don't get me wrong)

I think it's only fair to compare two things on an even playing field, in this case, both singers singing live. I have 2 live performances of haley singing creep, both a little different (she usually sings songs different each time, it's a jazz thing). This one was at Gramercy Theatre in NYC.

IMO vocally, Haley is way far better than Sarah.. but if i were to choose between the 2 covers? i prefer Sarah's version.. Haley nailed those vibratos runs and growls while Sarah's rendition took me to other places,i can feel every word the lyrics says...

I think its the other way around. Sarah is a better singer than Hailey but this song fits better with Hailey. Like raspy, imperfect voice, emotionally imbalanced. Sarah was exceptional too.

Funny how we react differently. To me Sarah G's version seemed contrived and unconvincing and I didna find it at all moving. Perhaps in part it was because it was so deadly slow and she was almost talking rather than singing for the first couple pf minutes. Her pitch at times was a bit flat, and she sounded shaky at times. I can't think in which way her vocal could be regarded as "powerful".

Gave my Like to both of them. Technically, Haley's version wins and still gives me chills each time I hear her version. I even shared her cover on my Facebook wall the moment they uploaded the video. Sarah wins for projecting the emotions of the song, as if she's possessed by it. She even had a spiel before this performance saying that she dedicated this song to all her haters and bashers.

Haley's great..loved her in AI when she sang House of the Rising Sun..but for this one, Sarah's got it..I mean the fact that you whisper your comments while watching her and then hold your breath for the next note says something..she definitely takes you somewhere in her version.

I don't think you understood Ovela. His complaint about Haley wasn't that she sang it too perfectly to do justice to the song. It was that she was so incredibly good that he thought they must have enhanced it in editing afterwards. That was the only reason why he said he preferred Sarah's version.

Myself, I like singers to sing the lyrics, not whisper out a story. However, whatever I like, Sarah gives a lot of pleasure to a lot of people, even if not to me. i actually feel a bit sorry about it because she has quite a strong voice which isn't used much on good singing, and she's doing thon Pop leaping and charging around the stage instead of singing. In fact, some of her fans were excusing the poorness of her voice on Creep because it was the last item of her concert, and she had been prancing around the stage before it, and must have been tired.
I love Hailey more than Sarah but in this performance I felt Sarah more.

Sorry dude by Haley had no autotune, not later mixing and she did this ONE take AFTER recording 2 other songs that same day. It was done in a studio in Zurich at the end of a tour. She is the tops.

It's not a fair comparison reaction video at all. One is a video of a live performance on a stage in front of an audience and one is a video of Haley just standing there singing the song live for a video recording.
Of course, the latter video given the circumstances is not going to elicit the same kind of emotional response as the former under the different circumstances.
In other words, this orchestrated competition is a complete and utter farce. And the makers of this reaction video owe an apology to all of the Haley Reinhart fans that have viewed this very unfair comparison that they have made and presented on their UA-cam channel.
Moreover, they couldn't have made this absurd comparison reaction video had they not viewed the videos first beforehand. Which kind of reveals at the same time that at least some of their reaction videos are bogus as well. Oh well.

I'm a fan of Haley since American Idol ang sang "Creep" well. Sarah performed it. Dalton Harris also did one in X Factor UK. Latest was Mimi and Josefin. All of them did it beautifully.
I liked both, its totally two different styles we can't compare, both are great.

I just don't see that in Sarah's version. It's histrionics, all overdone and artificial, whispering a story to try and convey emotion. That's been a corny cliche for a long time. I'll admit I've always hated thon whispering, and half-speaking. If you're going to sing a song, sing the bloody thing, not talk it.
The fact that Sarah sang it live alters the grounds of comparison to some extent because the audience reaction adds an extra dynamic. Haley's was in effect recorded live with a single take, and PMJ don't do fixes. However, there was no audience, so no audience reaction involved. Anyway, whilst listening to Sarah I was all the time waiting for her to start singing, and when she finally did there flaws in her pitch, and she sounded a bit shrill at times. Definitely not for me. Still, a lot of peol ehave had enjoyment form her, and a lot get enjoyment from Haley so that's a good thing.

It's a strange critical position. Haley's version is so amazing in every way, including emotional impact, that the recording must have been "fixed" according to a number of you. The other one was recorded live, and therefore you prefer it. Haley's version is well recorded but was apparently done on one take. What you hear is what they did without fixings. Sarah was recorded. How do you know that there were no fixings to that take before it was posted? If she was tired after a long performance, so what? If it weakens her performance, the performance is weaker.
I have now heard Haley sing that live, and at the end of a concert. No fixings, and none of what seemed to me the weaknesses of voice that Sarah displayed. Maybe some of that was deliberate as part of the histrionics that was an essential part of Sarah's performance.
Basically, Haley sang the song; Sarah acted it. If Sarah's dancing and prancing around affects her singing, she should do less of it in her act. Then no-one will need to say, Oh but it was great really because it was at the end of a show where she'd been dancing. What that really means is that it was sh*te, but because she's been dancing that makes it great. Aye, great critical judgment!

If you guys think it's not fair because Haley is singing in a recording studio then do look at her live shows of her doing it. There are a lot of them as her fans love her singing creep live. She sounds exactly the same but sometimes adding more dynamics which adds to her emotion. I think they're both great with different unique voices but I still love Haley.
