eHeat Envi Heater Review and Installation Demonstration

- Today I'm reviewing an Envi wall-mounted electric heater from eheat.com. Also, I'm going to briefly show you how to install this heater in a typical room with typical drywall walls. (Once you have your tools gathered, you'll probably be able to install one of these in less than the time it takes to watch this video.) We purchased this heater directly from eheat.com because we have one room in our house which feels just a bit too cold in the winter months. The rest of the house seems to be heated well enough with a central heat system using ducts and vents throughout the house. Rather than try to revisit the design of our existing system, we chose to simply supplement the heat in this one room using the Envi heater.
Within just a couple of days we confirmed that the Envi heater was a great solution to our original problem. It performs exactly as advertised. It's quiet, easy to use, non-intrusive and non-disruptive. It has a thermostat dial on top and we set it to about 3 out of 10 (according to a little scale on the dial). This seems to heat the room at night to about 4 or 5 degrees (fahrenheit) warmer than the room was without this supplemental heater. Just what we wanted it to do!
According to the manufacturer, the heater uses about 475 watts of electricity when it's on (and when the thermostat actually turns on the heating elements). My Kill-a-Watt meter tells me that it's about 535 watts. I'm not sure if my Kill-a-Watt meter is completely accurate. No matter. To me, the manufacturer's claim and my meter's reading are close enough to each other that I won't worry about the discrepancy.
In the video I state that, by my estimation, we increase our electricity consumption by about 3 or 4 kilowatt hours per day using this Envi heater. This happens when I have the thermostat set to about 3 on the Envi heater's scale of 10. Also, I don't use the Envi heater during daylight hours. I turn on the Envi heater daily at around sundown (or dinner time) and I turn the power switch off each morning at around sunrise. I've come to my figure of 3 or 4 kilowatt hours per day by recording the daily numbers on our home's net meter (we have grid-connected solar panels) and comparing the numbers and averages to the readings from the same period last year.
I realize that this is still early in the season. Within a few weeks we're going to have much colder temperatures outside. I don't yet know how this will affect the Envi heater's ability to provide the supplemental heat in the room where we use it. I'm guessing that I can keep the heater's thermostat set the same and it will simply cycle itself on for longer periods. Then again, the home's overall furnace system will also be operating more often and for longer periods. So I'll have to wait and see how lower outdoor temperatures will affect overall performance and power consumption of the supplemental heater.
In summary, as I state in the video, the Envi heater is doing just what we wanted it to do. The room is a much better place now that it's warmer. It certainly doesn't hurt that it's made in the USA. And, so far, the heater's impact on our overall use of electricity has actually been lower than I expected.
(To be clear, I am a paying customer of eheat.com and I made this video completely independently. I used a coupon for a small discount on purchasing the Envi heater. This was, to my knowledge, a coupon available to any other customer who visited their website at that time. So, in short, I paid what anyone else would have paid at the time and nobody asked me to make this video.)
This is the first time I've seen a cardboard box actually be more than a box, and actually be really useful. Nice.

I have two mounted in my home and they work fine. However, I mounted mine closer to the floor in order to draw the cold air from the floor.
I bought 3 Envi heaters, grateful for a quiet, efficient heater! They were recalled in 2016, bad power switch, burning wires, smoke. Fully refunded. I’d buy again✅
I guess I bought a new-and-improved version. So far no problems. It’s still doing exactly what we wanted it to do.
This thing is actually the sole heat source for my 200ish sq ft office. Takes about an hour for it to get a 50ish degree room to a more hospitable temp. It functions kind of like a wall mountable space heater. It's ambient heat, it's unobstructive, completely silent, and does the job for smaller rooms. I'd personally prefer to be able to set my room to a specific temperature instead of messing with the knob, but that level of functionality would probably cost me more than $150.
Overall, I like it.
Thank for your video. I bought two of these for two separate rooms. Watching you put your up mail make it a breeze for me. The cost of each one was 179 Though Amazon. I hope this help with my Mobil home. And the back room where I made a studio out of with its own entry door.

I'm adding these to my solar/ battery home as another option for heating in addition to a pellet stove and a central HVAC system. If I have a surplus going into December I will "burn it" using these convective heaters.

Thanks Greg, great video but just wondering 130 degrees just above on the wall seems a little "crispy" to me.. I wonder why Envi didn't incorporate some kind of deflector to send the heat away from the wall.. and could a simple sheet metal one be added?? thanks again mike
I think I’ll stick with my Heat Storm heater for several reasons.
1. It’s initial cost was about $120.00 which is less than your heater.
2. It has a fan
3. It sticks out from the wall about 4 inches, but because of its fan and maybe because it’s Wi-Fi enabled.
4. It is Wi-Fi enabled. Since it’s to heat my shop in the garage, I can turn it on from the house, let it warm the shop, then go out after the shop has warned.
It’s 500 watts. Since I still have to insulate my shop, I can't really tell yet how well it will heat my shop, but I’m hoping it will at least make the shop bearable so I can work to finish the remodel.
5. It’s touch screen and the current temperature of the shop is easy to read from a distance. It has other features which I’m still not familiar with. There is also a 220 model so if I decide to add 220 to my shop later on I can upgrade.
Additional note: it’s also infrared.

Bought two am it doesnt heat even a small room like a bedroom. Let alont a bigger area. The wall gets super hot so put 2x4 ehi d it so it would t cause issues. These are worth the money

Has anyone tried using this as the main heat in a small room? I have a bedroom about 140 sq ft, and I've been using an oil filled radiator space heater since the thermostat broke for the original baseboard heat and now I've blocked the baseboard with furnature. It works pretty well but I want to go back to a more permanent solution and it would just be easier to install something like this than to rearrange the whole room at this point. I plan to get the hardwired 220v version without the built in thermostat and extend the wiring from the baseboard to it, and install a new thermostat in the original wall box (probably a Mysa smart line voltage thermostat) so tl;dr ok as main heat for a 140ish square foot room? 90s house, very well insulated, one small double-pane window with no leaks.
This heater is extremely popular with tiny home builders and owners as the sole heat source. One unit heats up to 150 Sq ft, so tiny homes larger than that place one unit at each end of the house. They work great... take about 72 hours to heat up a cold house the first time in winter, and then you're good to go. Yes, get the thermostat (Envi sells one you can plug into the same outlet as the heater, but it doesn't have smart tech) if you don't want to make the manual adjustments. It's worth the added expense, in my opinion.

Enjoyed watch your Envi video, I ordered the same model on December 20th it was shipped by Fedx and ready for delivery on 26th, Fedx didn’t deliver. Received it on the 28th, open the box ready too install and no “ Hardware “ probably another 8 days to receive the hardware, it will probably be another day before shipping, they should have overnight it by UPS! “ Not empress by their customer service!

Ellen Dimitriadis I ordered it online from the company. With shipping and customs it came to around $200c. I hope it’s worth it but it won’t be hard to beat baseboards.
@@annprendergast8977 Baseboard keeps floors warm at least. This thing heats the space above your head. Envi is useless.
Nice heater. Insulate the window frames well and you will only need this type of heater for half of the day, while saving money all the time, in comparison to the gas or less efficient heaters.
I put one in our hallway. Closed the doors to the joining rooms. I'm less than impressed. I had purchased a second one with this one, for another room. Will probably be sending both back.

I was thinking of putting this in my bathroom, however, i was wondering if it would radiate the heat much how far can you feel it in front of the wall ., or if the bath fan would suck up all the heat straight above it on the ceiling making it not so effective

Is it supposed to emit a chemical smell when it's first turned? Also can it be installed in a bathroom with humidity?
Yes, direction say wide open for 72 hrs to burn off the new smell!
Does the back get hot to the touch?
Can it be installed right OVER an outlet so no cord is visible ?
Reading the features of the unit it looks like it's cool on the bottom so mounting over the outlet doesn't sound like an issue.

Heat rises, so if you don't mount it about 6 inches from the floor, the only warmth in the room will be near the ceiling.
Maybe you can strike a deal with that Holmes guy that fixes houses. Could be the insulation.

You can get construction heaters as a cheap backup they are pretty useful, the makes noise, so.

It might change the flow of air a bit, since this relies on natural air flow rather than some kind of fan. Obviously, the company recommends a certain height but I don’t think there’s anything inherently dangerous or anything like that if you want to mount it a little higher. 18-24 inches wouldn’t be drastically higher than the recommended height.
Heat rises, so you want to keep it about 6-8 inches above the floor, or your room will only be warm up higher. Also, electric wires in your walls are installed around 36 inches from the floor. By mounting it below that area, you don't risk hitting live wires when screwing it in.

This had that “new heater smell” for just the first day or two and then I never noticed it again.
Installing one right now and have fund no way to tuck cord inside and instructions also say nothing on how to....
I installed this a few days ago. Does this smell heater smell like it's burning? Because my wife couldn't stand the smell at all. Just wanted your input if it goes away after a few times running the heater.
I just bought one and it smells like burning up so I don’t know if it goes away bc it’s it feels unsafe so far !
After a couple of days of use that “new heater smell” went away for me. In my experience all electric heaters smell funny when they’re brand new and you’re using them the first time.
Will this heat a room thats 10x12 in new york during the winter?
I’ll tell you what I did after I made this video. I built a 12x16 (192 square feet) standalone building in the back yard. I finished the inside with drywall, paint, carpet, etc.. The walls have R-15 and the attic has R-60 insulation. I heat the place with two of these Envi heaters and it works very well. The climate here is similar to the climate in Park City, Utah (typically a bit colder than Salt Lake City). Based on my experience I think one heater in a well-insulated building which is 120 square feet seems like it would be okay. If you had two heaters I think you’d definitely be okay and maybe only use one at a time except during the worst cold snaps.
Good supplemental heating
How about the noise? How noisy is the heater? How many dB s?
Based on the thermostat setting it will cycle on and off sometimes. When that happens it makes a little “click” sound which is not loud. You’d only hear it if you were very close to it and the house were silent. Otherwise it doesn’t make any sounds. There is no fan inside of it. A ticking, battery-powered analog wall clock makes more noise.
Did you ever had to RESET it ??? I have one that turn on but doesn't heat up.
This one still seems to work like new. I bought two more of them to heat up our 192-square-foot playhouse and they are working well too.
What's the square footage or meters that it can heat up?
Get yourself a portable oil filled heater.
Could I put it middle of the wall from floor to ceiling?
NO! That's where live electrical wires run inside your walls! You could get electrocuted screwing it into the wall at that height. You also need to understand that heat rises, so you want this mounted 6-8 inches above the floor, or your room will always be cold near the floor.
Is this space heater more efficient than free standing space heaters?
I have a free standing space heater which uses up to 1500 watts. These Envi heaters only use about 400-500 watts. These seem to be best as a helper for areas where a house’s heating system just isn’t reaching all spaces evenly.
But… just a few months ago I put two of these in a 200 square foot standalone building and they are doing well in there so far. A higher power standalone space heater could probably heat the room up more quickly but these still do the job.

How much does this unit cost to run monthly at full day/night usage?
I guess that depends on where you are and how your power company calculates the price. In my area they don’t distinguish the price for peak times but, instead, there’s a different monthly price for less-than 400 kWhs for the month then a higher tier from 400-1000 and a higher tier for above 1000. These heaters use about 400-500 watts but they also have their own thermostats so they won’t technically be drawing full power all the time depending on that setting.

This was an exact replacement for the old one that lasted about 10 years. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh The top of my mitigation tube by my roofline was just a 90 elbow which allowed too much debris to fall down into the fan, eventually ruining it. Without this issue, I bet it would have kept running another 10 years. When I replaced this fan, I added an extra elbow joint so the top tube now it does a 180, which should solve that problem. The radon guys around here wanted to charge me a $300 diagnostic fee, then parts/labor (probably close to $600 total). I installed this all by myself in about an hour for the cost of the fan; it would probably be even easier/faster with two people. FYI the manufacturer's warranty greatly differs depending on whether you install it yourself (1 yr warranty) or have a licensed installer do it (10 yrs).
Im in process of making a 12x13 ft shed into a mancave/bar. I wonder if 2 of these could heat the structure by themselves. I live in up north where temps can dip below -20F occasionally...
I built a 12x16 playhouse for my kids this Spring. The building has an 8-foot-high ceiling and it’s a fully insulated building. I put two of these in the building in opposite corners. So far they do a good job. They heat the place slowly but they get the job done if I start an hour or two before I go in there. But I haven’t gone through a whole winter season with them yet. So I’m still collecting my data. I am in a part of northern Utah where our winter temperatures are usually 10 or 15 degrees colder than Salt Lake City. I have the thermostats on these heaters set to only about 1/3 of full power on the dials. I like to use timers on them too.
I have two of these in my full basement and one is enough. I took the other heater and installed it in another room

These heaters are recalled for catching fire (they're marketed as being safe, but obviously not, as there have been dozens of fire reports already!!!).

Your windows make the "antique" 70s vintage double-hung combination windows in my old barn look like "energy-efficient" triple-pane "sealed" windows by comparison.
"Heat" always moves from "warm" to "cold" regardless of the "direction" it must go to do so and "Heat rises" in situations where it can't efficiently "fall" and where "up" is always "cooler" like our atmosphere. "Cold" is the absence of "heat" and is always relative to "warm" and is subject to interpretation. "Warmth" always escapes and radiates to "cold" while "cold" can only "leak in" if there's a pressure differential and "draft". Which will always let heat "leak out" more "efficiently" as well. And "insulation" is any sort of barrier to "radiating" heat. If that window in the intro of your video is indicative of the "energy efficiency" of your home in general and you think "radiant heat" of the plug-in 110AC variety is anything but the most energy-INEFFICIENT way of "heating" a "space", it's no wonder you're on a "money is no object" so-called "energy efficiency" kick with "solar panels" and "inverters" and "net metering" on a "home" that's "state of the art" circa 1955 when it comes to "energy efficiency".

Most of the reviews I've seen on the Envi heater have not been good. What gives?
The heater in this video continues to do exactly what we wanted it to do in that room of the house. I bought two more of them for our 200 square foot playhouse. The playhouse is a standalone building which is fully insulated and has an 8-foot-high ceiling. We haven’t had it through a full winter yet but so far the heaters are doing a decent job. I installed timers so that whenever I turn on these heaters I don’t have to worry about forgetting to turn them off. I haven’t had any worries about safety..
Haha he said if a kid or pet knocks it down.... you could ruin the carpet

If you want your electric bill to go up by $70 a month or so....have at it. These don't heat much and don't believe a word about cost savings. I had 2 of these in my newly built fully insulated 16x20 garage.....they did NOT do the job and increased my electricity bill by $125 a month. I do NOT recommend this heater!

What temperature did you set your garage at and what is the outside temperature?
You're honestly quite stupid if you thought two of these heaters would heat a 16x20 garage, insulated or not. If you read the instructions, they are to be installed on an interior wall, and to supplement the heat in a room, not fully heat a room by themselves. They were probably running all the time at max wattage, so of course they increased your electric bill. Two of them would be about 1000w, which per hour is about 20 cents per hour. So $4.80 a day, times 30 = ta-da! $144.
I have a very old house and this heater ruined the wall I mounted it on. So, buyer beware if you're dealing with old walls. When contacted for new mounting hardware to move to a different wall, they directed me to their website to purchase them (9.95), instead of offering to send me some. Poor customer service IMO.
You mean you ruined the wall because you didn't know how to properly install it the first time?
