Pirates Of Dark Water needed more figures. They were nicely sculpted figures, the ones that were made. Then Hanna Barbera produced a few more episodes of the cartoon show for syndication. I remember the cartoon series came on ABC's Saturday morning schedule from 1991-1992. Ren found 7 of the treasures in the ABC series. Then the syndication version had him able to use the first 7 treasures to keep part of Myrrh save from the Dark Water. I remember he managed to find the 8th treasure and then the show was no more.
@@RandomRetr0 I remember the comicbook, but don't recall all 13 treasures being found in the comic. I heard the videogame gave the series a bit more of a resolution to the story.
I always enjoy your vidoes but this one in particular touched a special place in my collecting heart. I love the Pirates of Dark Water line and wish they would’ve continued it. I have never seen the unproduced second wave toys before. Awesome! I also loved the Hook line as well. Wish we could have gotten Tink.
I really like that the unproduced Rulers of the Sun figures are getting made almost 40 years later. I would love to see those Dark Water toys come out.
Happy to see the Rulers of the Sun characters all see their, well...day in the sun! With that said, I can't help but see two yellow sorry pieces attached to Zap Man's arm and a pizza pie on Holographo's chest. Also, the Duplico prototype looks a little like Kreese from Karate Kid to me!
Top work Ed, love me some Pirates action! Those unreleased Pirates of Dark Water figures look sick, I wonder where those samples are these days... another awesome episode mate👏
Yeah i wish the cartoon for didn't get cancelled and got finished than they probably would've come out with the second wave of figures and about the Hook figures i've that pirate Bil Jones in m,y collection for decades and never whew what line he was from wow thanks for the info Ed
Agree with you on the pirates of the dark water. Such a shame the second wave didn't make it to shelves. It was a really good show and I actually have some of the figures and the first issue of the comic book. Also definitely agree glow in the dark pirate skeletons count me in. Matter of fact glow in the dark figures are my favorites and one of my favorite episodes of toy history from you about the glow in the dark unproduced toys
I love the whole impetus and premise behind Sun-Man. I'm glad Origins picked it up to finish the set. I loved Hook as a kid and still do as an adult. And I had a few of the toys growing up. I absolutely love The Pirates of Dark Water. I never knew about the toys or video games until I was an adult They all look great! I would have loved to have had them
Oh so that's where Sun-Man comes from, was looking at his cardback and although his backstory was interesting I'd never heard of him. Quite a few parallel toy lines, wonder if the Galaxy Warriors are far behind. 😉 Never watched POD but definitely a good 90s revamp on the old pirate theme, that ship was pretty sweet. Yeah I know them more from their video game which itself has become a collectible heh. With Hook it was an awkward license at best, opinion on the movie was polarized at best, I liked it but many didn't. Then you get to the action figures where it has "retooled parts" written all over it when Pan looks nothing like Robin Williams.🤨In the aftermath I hear the playsets from the line were really good. Can't go wrong with skeletons so that's my choice.🙂
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Could be that or they tried to save some money without the likeness. At least there were a few good ones around then, Toybiz did a pretty good '89 Keaton, and the Kenner Robin Hood looked mostly like Costner.
There is SO MUCh action figures that didn't the light of the day I can't even count them off! The ones I remember the most were the Silver Saints from the Die Cast/vintage Saint Seiya toys from the 80's...
So many Unproduced toys ...these were past my prime, but i did have HOOK happy meal toys. I think, thanks to Flea Markets, I had another Hook figure...but can't recall. I loved the movie, but i didn't want to play with toys from it. I think the Flea Market toy was for a different character. I often got figures to repurpose in my universe as OTHER people
@@EdsRetroGeekOut like the ewok village i bought at the flea market...i'm pretty sure it was the Robin Hood set, because it had leaves on the trees. It was back in the 90s, so i had no internet, and no way of checking with any resources, but it looked just like the one my neighbor had when i was a kid...or so i thought
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Yeah I know. I remember when they were REAL expensive back in the 80's before they started putting commercials and trailers in front of the movie that helped reduce it's price. We had very little movies. The first one we got was Batman 89.
The characters selected for wave 2 of dark water is just completely bonkers. No Tula? I get there was a stigma against female action figures back then but replacing an A lister character for characters that weren't even in the show is nuts.
Those Peter Pan toys were such disappointment. Trash sculpts and paint jobs. Worse plastic than the dollarstore and kitbashed accesories too. Couldn't have made less effort.

Shame we didn’t get more episodes 😬
There was a comic as well which got all 13 of the treasures. Pirates of Dark Water is my favorite fantasy cartoon ever
@@RandomRetr0 I remember the comicbook, but don't recall all 13 treasures being found in the comic. I heard the videogame gave the series a bit more of a resolution to the story.
Pirates of Dark Water was such a great cartoon.
It really was. Too bad it wasn't more popular.
Indeed 😁
Love these series 👏👏
Thanks buddy 👌

Yeah tink seems like an odd one to keep off of the production list

That’s all I really want. Updated 6in figs. PoDW was one of my fave cartoons.
No one is buying them, except for people trying to complete the line
Dark water could use an ultimates 😁 version

He does have the kreese vibes
Yes! Awesome work again buddy!
Thank you! Cheers!
...dang I remember these Sun Man figures. Also remember NEVER seeing them on shelves. Glad they got a re-up with he man and the bunch!
So true 🤓
great video with many information and you "Knowing is half the Battle"
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video Ed I just receive the Sun Man 3 pack I going to get them all great review
Enjoy it
Always the best thanks Ed!
Thanks
Those would be PoDW figures look great…but still no Tula!
Indeed no Tula 😬

Good question! I haven’t seen em pop up yet in collections from protos

Ed! I really appreciate you taking the time to make these toy history videos. I love em so much, and I can't get enough. Here's to ya
Glad you like them!
I see the rufio is making use of new adventures disk of doom skeletor weapons
That’s where it’s from good eye! 😁👌
I still have my Pirates of Dark Water Ren
Awesome 😁
Cool toys collection 😊
Thank you 🤗
Man... Muckman and Joe Eyeball! was one of my favorites as a kid. Still is at 41, too! there are just so many awesome TMNT Characters!
Those three Sun Man toys remind me of the New Day.
Ill have to look into that i dont know about that
I like pirates ☠ of dark water I wish that the second wave line would get released. 😀👍
I would have loved those toys

Am I the only one who sees Duplicos weapon looks just like Shockwave?

Another awesome toy history Ed... Now I know I've said this before, but I really wish playmates would have finished the skeleton warriors line!
We all need those that’s a given 😎
They had Thud Butt and Smee figures?

Maybe robin didn’t sign off on his likeness but also if they had to rush out the toyline the only way is to repurpose certain parts.

Finally found my old official VHS tape of pirates of dark water. And guess what! It's dubbed in Dutch. Mystery solved!
Epic 😁
I loved my Hook toys. I would have loved the second wave too.

Another excellent episode! Anything glow in the dark is awesome!👍🏼

i LOVED the POTDW series me and my brother watched it every week
Awesome 😁
I think Rufio might have been not popular because of his fate in the movie
That’s true
ALWAYS enjoy these videos! Love the history!
Glad you like them!
This is fantastic, dude, thank you. When I saw the Origins Sun Man I was like “whaaa? Who?” Now I know the rich history behind those. Awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I would absolutely buy a GITD pirate skeleton
Yes!
Hey Ed!! Aww would have been awesome to see a second release on those Pirates of Dark Water😄Caus i was able to acquire The Wraith🙏🏽
That’s a great piece 🤓
Awesome...Time to get my Toy History Fix.
Thanks 🤓
Strand is basically Aracula from Skeleton Warriors as still in life
It does have some similarities 🤔🤣

That hook pan figure is using a sky commander’s backpack

So pirates of dark water was gonna get a second wave and they still weren’t going to make Tula?!?!
Indeed maybe she was gonna be in wave 3 but it’s weird she’s badass in the cartoon
@@EdsRetroGeekOut she was a major character, my collection looks strange without her.
Just awesome channel mate
Thanks buddy
Need boss fight or another company to make these figures!
Hook for Me, Now these days I even got thud butt added to my collection. Still trying to find a smee figure. Bot is he going to be pricey.
Fortunate to have thud bud and his weird action feature in the collection 🤓

He still needs some treasures 🫤
hook toys would have been so dope back then as well as pirates of darkwater fuckin right haha
I didn’t have MOTU as a kid cos…I don’t know 🤔 I just didn’t like the idea of playing with naked, man-figures! Still can’t get with it!

I’ve featured some 🤓
