HerosHelper in heart and soul he was willing to go to them......and with time travel we beat him in a battle and he loses that realization.......and who knows maybe that's what led him to form "Rainbow Rocket" if you want that rabbit hole to exist for that reason
(Spoilers for Sun and Moon below, except not really since it’s been two years) The Aether Foundation in Gen VII was one of the best-handled organizations in the series. They had a pretty diverse selection of Pokémon; in fact, I don’t think any repeated. It’s too bad the Employees were only directly antagonistic during the Aether Paradise raid. The Executive with the five Koffing and one Weezing (wow, what diversity...) was replaced by Petrel in the remake, making this his second appearance. On a related note, this team structure was taken to its logical extreme in the HGSS arc of the Adventures manga, where Petrel had an entire army of Koffing attack Silver at one point. Why do I feel they had the “Psychic VS Psybeam” discussion before? I feel like they did, because it sounds EXTREMELY familiar. Hey, at least the Meganium came close to knocking out Growlithe. Granted, that was partly because of the chip damage from Sneasel, but still.
The only good thing about this part of the game is the Team Rocket grunt that goes "hyuck-hyuck-hyuck". I call him the Goofy Grunt. Everything else is just ehh and training fodder.
I love how the Rocket Grunts, despite being criminals ready to wreck havoc on the nation, have a sense of honour that prevents them for ganging up on you and stopping you from doing anything after losing a pokemon battle.
Interesting fact about this Rival battle: Because his starter is only Level 32(34 in HG/SS), if you picked Chikorita at the beginning of the game, the rival will only have a Quilava rather than a Typhlosion. This battle isn't all too difficult to begin with, but choosing Chikorita makes his starter a complete joke, and you won't have to worry about fighting a Typhlosion until the Victory Road battle. BTW Johnny, Abra is also capable of learning all three Elemental Punches, so you didn't really need to shove it into the Day-Car at all. Since Abra's Special Attack is still pretty high for a first-stage Pokemon, giving it even one or two of the punches can let it wreak havoc quite easily.
I do love how HG/SS has you try to disguise yourself to get in, then Fuckboi just comes and goes all "lol team rocket sucks and you suck for dressing up like them" God, I played FR/LG with ground as my poison killer (thanks rhydon) and koffings/weezings were the worst just for how long it took to take em down. Also, I love the extended rocket them via radio tower.
About the Scald VS Surf/Hydro Pump thing, it usually depends on the Pokémon using it: if it's a fast and strong Pokémon that wants to do as much immediate damage as possible and end the battle quickly, you use Surf or Hydro Pump. If it's a slower and more defensive Pokémon, Scald is better because it's probably going to be used more often, which increases the chances of scoring a burn. Scald is also desirable if you have terrible luck with the Freeze status, as it can be used while frozen and gets rid of it, just like Flame Wheel and Sacred Fire.
Well, I liked how Gen IV let you dress up like a Team Rocket grunt for this little segment. I thought it was nice. Kind of wished I could keep that outfit.
Actually, I think Gen I's Team Rocket had more variety than Gen II's: they had Machop, Sandshrew, Cubone... here it's either Rattata, a Poison-type or the rare Drowzee, with only the Executives/Admins using the new Dark-type.
In the remake you have to disguise as team rocket to even reach the first floor. But then your rival dedisguise at the stair case and you end up battling the grunts.
8:50 That shit is so real lmao. I've done that too many times in my life. Probably one of my biggest laughing fits ever from watching SGB from this little part of this episode lol
If it makes you feel better guys, this part's commentary complemented my own self burnout I'm currently going through quite well putting me at some ease, so it wasn't time lost on me. Also take care as a heist recently took place at an insectarium in Philadelphia with over 7,000 animals stolen including a six-eyed sand spider, said to be one of the world's most venomous species.
Don't worry SGB. I feel your pain. I currently have a Megaman 9 playthrough and part 4 has to be redone...and part 3 has to be redone...once again. And I'm just tired and I exhausted my good commentary so we just switched the scheduled commentaries for the week and we'll get back to it later.
It's actually both. In Gold and Silver, the TMs in the Game Corner are Fire Blast, Blizzard and Thunder, of which only Fire Blast is worth getting. In Crystal, they sell these same TMs, but now a Move Tutor shows up every Wednesday and Saturday after you beat the Elite Four, who essentially acts purchasable TMs for Flamethrower, Thunderbolt and Ice Beam. Incidentally, the price for the move tutor is 4000 Coins. The price for the actual TMs? 5500 Coins. The catch is that the move tutor can only teach one move a day, so if you're planning on teaching Ice Beam to a bunch of Pokémon at once, too bad!
In HGSS, the Game Corner's TMs were overhauled, but Flamethrower, Ice Beam, and Thunderbolt were included. I spent way too much time in there to get those moves during my Wedlocke run.
That title for this part basically defines my attitude to Team Rocket in the diamond and pearl series...Like they were just so...annoying and intrusive there. Despite the lack of used potential with the serious team rocket of Best Wishes, I'd prefer them over the Diamond and Pearl versions. But either way, the sun and moon versions trump them all, even their stellar X and Y versions. The sun and moon anime is just so good.
The Sun and Moon anime is a cringy piece of shit! Ash looks cringy, he IS cringy at times and EVEN LILLIE gets rekted by those Ultra Beasts which I hate so goddamn much cuz THEY HURT MY WAIFUS AND THEY MUST BE DESTROYED AT ALL COSTS!!!! God, I fucking hate the stories of the Alolan games and anime!
After a few years, I can actually think of a few legitimate reasons the trainer with badges is a better idea than the cops. Going down the list: 1. Cops in the series have had less type diversity than the rockets. Their main type: Fire. What do a few grunts have: volatile poison types. 2. Missed opportunity: trainers with Houndours having the advantage over the growlithes (Fire/Dark vs. Fire). If we ever get another remake of Gen 2 (I mean we've had FRLG, and the Let's Go Series so I don't think a Switch remake is entirely out of the question), I'd like an ace cop losing a scripted battle, then a new cop winning one in a postgame episode through Close Combat or something. On second thought, that would probably have the Maison only so...maybe I don't want that second remake. 3. Second missed opportunity along the above lines: Growlithes vs. evolved pokemon. Seriously, how do these people fight criminals with more than two badges? Even the raticates might occasionally give the lesser grunts trouble. At least with the badges, you're sending people with a full team in. 4. Lance saw what the trainer could do on his/her own and could tip off Elm; I mean the trainer was pretty much responsible for the destruction of a Rocket base. 5. If we want to go to fridge fangame humor logic, the cops only battle at night and this appears to be a mid-day operation. 6. The trainer is bait for the cops to arrest everyone...who runs...from the kid's likely successful attempt? I mean yeah these are the yakuza, but the public probably considers them to be the disorganized mob of yakuza leftovers at this point (you know, the type of people you think you could beat after a good kung fu movie?). It's still pretty dumb that only the trainer with badges went. And a level scaled Whitney miltank could wreck quite a few guards.
I may be the odd man out but I love taking back Goldenrod Tower in Gen 2....HeartGold/Soul Silver on the other hand made it slightly harder than it needed to be
Despite this being the worst part of the game, i look forward to beating all the rockets just cuz you can since you're a 10 yr old. And they fold after the executives lose. The only known threat is Archer with his Houndoom, but that's really about it.
In Gen II, Fire-types and Ice-types can be burned and frozen, respectively, by Tri Attack, and Steel-types can be poisoned by Twineedle. This was removed in Gen III, when the status immunities became a trait of the types themselves.
I hate team Rocket. It doesn't matter which game I'm playing, they are always a drag. Even team Rainbow Rocket was a little disappointing. My nostalgia was happy for a moment, but my craving for a challenge left me high and dry. The only team Rocket I like is Jessie, James and Meowth.
The commentary of this episode felt out of energy compared to the BSC version of this part of the game. Not that it's a bad commentary, is just that there's no Ted or Ryan to make fun of this.
Competitively, you go for either power or Burning. Also, HGSS doing something better than this game and being an objectively better experience? Imagine that! Though the Rocket Tower is repetitive...
I guess somebody was too "exhauted" to come up with a better title *cue the laugh track* HAHA! I know where the exit is. And GODDAMMIT EA, I don't care about Battlefield V.
This is one of the reasons why I find gen 2 to be somewhat weaker of the entire franchise. Barely can level up, the entire game has low level Pokemon, its nearly impossible to even level up an entire 6 Pokemon team. And most of the methods of getting strong TM, requires you to do the Game corner...and this gets held as one of the best Pokemon game? Heck even the remake suffers this too, and prevents you. I kid you not, from even getting Mareep for Falkner. As the guy there prevents you from going further. Oh and let's not forget the phone feature, random chance you will ever get a rematch and even then. You have to walk back to fight them, only to realize they stay the same level as you fought them before. With probably one new Pokemon on their roster.
Actually you can get Mareep from Falkner in HG and SS. They are found in the grass just above that old man. Also recalls level up also. At least in the remakes. So you were wrong there.
Can you? I don't recall catching Mareep or at least there being any near that route. Unless it was version exclusive that made me think that for Mareep. You need to reread agan, I said 'impossible' to level up an entire 6 team Pokemon, not leveling up in general. On the account of how low level all wild Pokemon are and trainers, The remakes still suffer from trainers being low levels as well wild Pokemon, and your not getting a Lucky egg until you get to kanto which makes it worse. Or at least fighting fully evolved Pokemon, considering fully evolve Pokemon give more EXP even then, coming across them is rare.
Megamanexe. It's not that bad. I do see your point & I do agree about the lower level scaling on trainers & stuff. But really? It's not that big deal of the flaw. Even if the remake didn't kinda fix it a little bit. They at least had an split physical/special stats & level a little bit more than the original & still puts enough challenge.
meganium sounds like dr light's alternative to bassnium, it's probably what X's "limitless potential" comes from.
8:38
Scientist: "An unknown child wandering here? Who are you?"
*gets Neutralized*
Scientist: "Where am I? Who am I?"
Giovanni must either be proud that his team is so loyal or annoyed that his team is so loyal. Team Rocket isn't exactly the best at what they do.
HerosHelper in heart and soul he was willing to go to them......and with time travel we beat him in a battle and he loses that realization.......and who knows maybe that's what led him to form "Rainbow Rocket" if you want that rabbit hole to exist for that reason
Could be worse, at least they aren't team skull.
We REALLY need more Teams like Cipher, Neo Plasma, and Aether Foundation. Teams with no variety end up SERIOUSLY dragging the experience.
*Team Rocket walks into the building*
"We call dibs"

man, matt and johnny arguing about numbers is almost like they're doing 'rocket' science.

In the remake you have to disguise as team rocket to even reach the first floor. But then your rival dedisguise at the stair case and you end up battling the grunts.
The World Of Pokemon: Where we rely on 10 year olds to take down crime organizations rather than have an organization built for such a task.
Well, 10 year olds are legally adults in the original pokemon light novel.
Police and not-Interpol exist in the Pokemon world, but they never actually do anything. Same with the military that supposedly exists.
If the 10 year olds are meant to be us in the pokemon world that would make us aliens from another dimension disguised as a person of this universe
Closest thing we've had was the Aether Foundation, and we know how that turned out.
Actually, there's a Global/International Police that was supposed to do that, but it sucks at its job as much as the regular police officers.

Wow, the neuralyzer works well on matt.
Poor matt.
I know how Growlithe feels; Sonic boom hurt me too
Fun fact alakazam can learn iron tail in gen 3 despite not having a tail
Elliot, i respect that calebcity reference.

I'm surprised at this episode. I was expecting a lot more Neuralyzer use in this considering the large amount of rockets.
and now a moment of silence for venemoth, a pokemon that fucking has wings and can fucking fly but can still be hit by ground moves

@Zuki I don't use meds cuz I don't need them, I had a rough school day and I hate those stories so much that I just had to comment this
This comment thread was good until Shadow over there ruined it.

The original sneasel coloration made me think it was a grass type.
2:35 "they just kick the door down, 'i claim this mine!'" well the sprite of that rocket girl kinda looks like she's kicking something.
3:03 wow the number of times the rocket theme resets there is almost meme tier!
Mr.Rexfire makes me wish the theme just was continuous in this tower for this part
That goes for the other gens'
If matt was a pokemon he would confuse himself
Meganium Leviosa!
Man, forgot how dull the radio tower is. The song is pretty good tho.
I don't think it was until bw2 that grunts started having a more diverse team.
Actually, Growlithe CAN learn Flame Wheel, it learns it at level 34
And now its time, FOR MONOTONY!
I may be the odd man out but I love taking back Goldenrod Tower in Gen 2....HeartGold/Soul Silver on the other hand made it slightly harder than it needed to be

Can fire types really get burned?

This was removed in Gen III, when the status immunities became a trait of the types themselves.
@@DarkEinherjar oooh I get it
Also Sacred Fire can instantly un-thaw Ho-Oh from frozen status
Flame Wheel has that effect too, as does Scald three generations later.
*I like the Chikorita line*
So do i
Pokecommunity: We found someone who likes chikorita. *gets neuralyzer*
Team Rocket has taken over the Goldenrod radio tower, who cares about Team Rocket right now
Blasting Off Again!
Team rocket still being typical
It's gonna be a long long time before the cops do anything of use in a Pokemon game.
At least alola cops (well one or two of them) has an excuse for their lack of power.......it was peaceful
Sgb uses fart
Me:ITS SUPER AFFECTIVE!!!but eww😕
Where's Feraligatr?
SapphireSonicfan in the pc replaced by vaporeon.
Is it too far a stretch to say SGB is the youtube version of The Office?
So what type fart art was it when you farted into your headset?
FuckBoi made a MrStake!
Fart with us. Of Elliot was goku and using a spirit bomb would we be giving him our fart energy?

I disagree with Matt and say any Pokemon that evolve with happiness wins the pain in the ass award.
Uriah wright why? it's literally just run back and forth for a while, then level up once. Later games even give options to increase happiness faster
Nasally.
Team rocket uses crappy Pokemon because they wanna make money off the ones worth anything.
11:35
(sees pic of meganium) so I guess this part is going to be straight up trash huh
Guys, why did you use a picture of garbage for the thumbnail?
IanBough trubbish is gen 5 silly head :p
For real though, who decided to make that line so shit and never buff it later?
I don't see Cyndaquil's or Totodile's evolutions anywhere
You haven’t watched the TFS Soul silver nulocke have you? Mr Steak the meganiuk is fucking unkillable.
Notch
HA HAA
You have no *POWER* here!
easily the most boring part of gen 2 going from rocket base to the radio tower
I can make the case for the power generator during Kanto as the most boring one but as a Canadian says I digress.
