The reason I believe he needed it is because in the middle of people protesting against the injustices with black lives he goes on Yahoo and tells the world he doesn't support kneeling because of his father and grandfather who were in the military. It has been explained over and over again that kneeling had nothing to do with the flag. Not one thing. So it took his black friends to step up and say you are not understanding. He then came out and apologized.
Wasn't this Steven not so favorable towards players kneeling when it started saying the black players should do the smart thing and get their money and stay away? Or am I remembering it incorrectly? If I am wrong, my apologies.

Unfortunately, the media is working on demographs and catering to their main audience. This is why all of a sudden everyone supports kneeling while four years ago very few did. Brees' patriotism and not wanting to disrespect the flag comes from a great admiration he had for his grandfather who was a marine in WW II and fought in the bloodiest battles against Japan in Okinawa and even the taking of Hacksaw Ridge. His intentions come from a good place. Drew is a great person who has donated and raised millions for charities that help children and low income families post Hurricane Katrina, etc.

Being a vet,and until recently, I felt the same way Drew Brees has. I thought that taking a knee was disrespectful during the national anthem and towards the troops who gave the ultimate sacrifice..its kneeling against racism, I likely won't ever know what it is to be discriminated against on a serious level so I'll take the word on the ppl that have and know. Gerik Wassmuth because he was implying that Kap was disrespecting the flag and that shows ignorance. 1. Kneeling for the anthem is not constitutional disrespect of the flag. 2. The kneeling was a peaceful protest to racist police brutality which is common in America 3. The “soldiers” that fought for the country are white AND black, which means the flag doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone. Black soldiers didn’t enjoy the same freedom of white soldiers for hundreds of years, so the flag does not even mean the same thing to a black man as it does to a white man.
The comments were disrespectful because they imply that the people kneeling are doing so to deliberately cause offence. When, they are really kneeling to bring the country to account for the values the flag actually represents (Unity, freedom from persecution and liberty for all). Currently, black people are not liberated and free from persecution, so are reminding those who ‘can’t see this’ or ‘do see this and don’t act’ on this that they are disrespecting the flag by their inattention or inaction.

Brees would never be cut, I agree, but if he were, it wouldn't be due to his ability as a player. The guy's incredible and I actually listened to his full interview that became controversial, I disagree with his view of kneeling, I think it's totally justified and if one wanted to be disrespectful, they'd turn their back to the flag or stick up a middle finger to it. Kneeling should 100 percent be allowed, but having said that, the hostile attacks where people try to attack for the sake of signalling wokeness or wanting to be offended for the sake of it when the rest of his message was him basically admitting there were problems and that we all needed to act together to correct those wrongs.. that all got ignored and he's forced into a humiliating apology he didn't need to give, but had to give in order to settle the snowflakes everywhere.

not really. Most rational people want Richard Spencer to apologize or his thoughts on white people being the race that should rule over everyone. If your mind comes up false equivalencies, like kneeling during the anthem is equal to disrespecting the flag then you're wrong. Soldiers told KP to kneel specifically so he wasn't disrespecting the flag so it would be peaceful. Drew disregards that fact and makes up his own when he says kneeling does disrespect it.

C I’m no more important than any other person in this country, i don’t feel disrespected at all. My problem comes in when thousands of ppl are allowed to walk through streets explaining how poorly they’re treated (even though they’re obviously uneducated and have never actually seen statistics on murders) but one person states how kneeling towards the flag is wrong and all of a sudden everyone gets to call him racist.
