Well done to all you young opera lovers. You have discovered something that will enrich your life for years to come. Opera speaks to so many of the senses and involves the emotion in a way, I believe, that no other art form can. I've loved it since my teens and at 60+ I still find it thrilling to discover a new opera, a new singer or a new performance. Enjoy all it has to offer and don't worry what your friends are saying - they're the ones missing out !
I never listened opera before because I thought it was bad, but after listening to La Traviata saw that opera can be as cool as I really like heavy metal :D Two Thumbs Uppp!
Very very good version! Netrebko got the voice and the looks! I wish there were more opera singers who look like her! I can´t find anyone good looking enough to play Carmen and other parts!!
I agree with you 100%! Anna Netrebko played her modernized role amazingly well, and so did Rolando Villazon. They are both beautiful voices with great freedom of sound, and with their talent bring the younger generations nearer to the world of opera. It is very important to see young people closer to classical music, and these two achieve that fantastically.
Traviata - Ms. Netrebko displayed ample power, coloratura bravura with a marvelous tone Having recently heard Natalie Dessay sing Sempre Libera at the Met Gala, one was impressed by the legato nature of Netrebko's portray in contrast to Dessay's intentional staccato, fragmented phrasing interpretation. Having also seen photos of Fleming in her current Violetta at the ROH, one can only marvel at Netrebko's resilience, endurance and commitment to bel canto opera.
With due respect to Netrebko and Villazón, this is just so-so. There are several superior versions of this old classic right here on You Tube. Skip this one and check them out.
Ehm...a message for those that are seeing this video for the first time and by chance they don't know Anna and Rolando. They and their friends are phenomenon changing the contemporary opera history (or better, reporting it on the right way), saving it to the abyss of ignorance, superficiality and pure negligence.
@SheSingsBroadway i agree. i get looks as a 19 year old who listens to opera. Im continuing to broaden my horizen in this respect but its amazing. i wish more people our age listened to stuff like this.
@SheSingsBroadway I'm a teen, and I'm studying opera!! At 18 years old, I have a huuuuge wait in front of me, but like you, I enjoy coming onto UA-cam and finding like minded people to support what I'm setting out to do.
This one - "Brindisi" or "Libiamo ne' lieti calici" - is the first duet with chorus of La Traviata, and it follows the chorus/quartet introduction, which is called "Dall'invito transcorso è già l'ora", which comes right after the Orchestra Prelude.
@SheSingsBroadway dont worry about it, i have loved opera for since i can remember, kids are dumb, if they think you're weird then they are stunted, opera will last a lot longer than pop music, pop music is expressionless and basic at best. Opera is love, life and eternal.
@SheSingsBroadway I'm 16 and I agree with you. I'm Spanish, and in my highschool is very difficult or imposible to find people who like listening opera.
@09avenger, thanks for your comment - aren't we lucky to be able to listen to her magnificent voice? I also heard her live several times - that was an unforgettable experience, no one can be compared to her with her round, evenly produced golden sound!
@SheSingsBroadway im only 13 and i LOVE operas... i always have to talk 2 my teachers or parents/parents friends about them:) ive seen 7 already. im like obsessed. lol
Dear friend, you oughta see the opera in its whole....then you might just understand the genius of this modernizing! I found this whole setting just BRILLIANT after being annoyed by it for the first 15 minutes or so..
@LandoftheShanks As well, Im not close-minded, Im a vocal teacher with a passion for teaching beautiful music and singing to the next generations, and I know many young people who share your love for classical music in the old way. I belong to this mindset, and I too dislike changes done to classic operas: personally, I think they should remain the way they were intended. I admire your opinion: do not change it, and keep your heart open to music forever!
@SheSingsBroadway i have to admit im a teen as well and u know it does suck that hardly any of my friends woudl be able to accept opera. they'd probably think im crazy but i think its beautiful
@SheSingsBroadway I totally get you! Im also a teen and love different art forms that my peers really dont get, they think im just stuck up! Its difficult but thankfully I have my choir instructor that encourage my love!
To think the hip hop crowd sings about getting plaster-faced these days like it's the new thing, the Italians were doing it 300 years ago, and much better if I might add. Leave it to the Italians to make everything, including the act of comprehensive alcoholic annihilation, an art form.

Two Thumbs Uppp!
Anna Netrebko - you are a miracle!!!
This is the tenth time of me replaying this over and over again... :)
Anna Netrebko is probably one of the few opera singers who are actually hot! I don't mean culturally or temperamentally hot, I mean hot hot.
It's hard to get steamier than Anna Netrebko!
And again: Villazon is one of the best tenors ever. Anna Netrebko one of the best sopranos ever. I do not see where is the problem
Tengo 13 años i me encanta la opera !! :)
Viva Mexico !!
El charro canta divinamente, la chica igualmente... Saludos desde 🇵🇪
I'm no longer a teenager, but from an early age I loved opera!!! :)

Great production of a famous number.

Beautiful.

@SheSingsBroadway I hear you there. I've been listening to Opera since I was 2 and in High School my classmates thought me strange because of it. :)

@SheSingsBroadway I had the same experience when I was a teen. I was into also classical, jazz, country, and many others.

@SheSingsBroadway It is the exact same situation with me. I'm 17 and I love opera so, so much and no one else my age understands why
Yes! :D
