*In the 1950s and 60s as a kid, you could literally order a rifle from an outdoors magazine, and if you lived in a small town or village and had no mailing address, you could have it sent to your local schoolhouse, as the laws have become more restrictive, the levels of criminal activity committed with guns has skyrocketed*

(Some) Medical providers have a form their patients sign that allows the medical facility to disclose HIPPA information.
My suggestion: read before signing. WA state has you sign a form that allows Dept. Of Health and Human Services (I may be mistaken on the exact state agency) to disseminate information to the Govt. This is the last 4 questions one completes when at your FFL.

I will say this is invaluable. Earlier today I had to explain to someone that if you are prohibited from owning a firearm in Illinois, you cannot just go to Missouri and purchase a gun and come back. They said that you can or else "How do people get guns like they have in Chicago". Ah yes, I forgot criminals follow the law.

Some people will believe whatever they hear without ever opening their eyes to see it for them selves. They believe so badly in their bogieman, that their own belief IS the manifestation of said bogieman. In this case meaning that if they actually tried to purchase a firearm for them selves they might understand that you can't just buy one like buying a candy bar at the local quickie mart, but since they never will they will continue to believe it's that easy.

Switzerland was not to different from the US until 1.1.1999: in most Cantons you had either permitted CCW or "Constitutional carry" (open and concealed, handgun and rifle), private transfers were private (until 1.1.2008), to buy handguns from an "FFL" you needed a simple piece of paper from your local police (mostly for free, and quick to get), long guns: ID and cash. Up 1939 you could even mail order full auto firearms, no papers required.
Today we can get most of the stuff, with the required papers which are not too difficult to get, including silencers (special permit, but quite easy to get as well), and full auto. Stuff we can't get: CCW permits, expanding handgun rounds, aiming lasers (they are "bad" because you might blind the agressor before you shoot him)

I think if there's one area where you need more awareness is the peculiar situation created by the lack of mandatory registration and face to face transaction.
Those two are such powerful tools you should ALWAYS hold precious.

The local FFL's are well familiar with dealing with that intricacy. The big thing I think you may have glossed over is that completing the 4473 takes some amount of time, perhaps 45 minutes or so, and if you can't devote the time the process takes, perhaps you should pick another day when more time is available. Otherwise, good video; thanks!

Mental illness needs to be classified in a spectrum. People with low functioning illnesses should be able to defend themselves, but they should require some sort of permit that checks in on their mental state through a therapist every 6 months or so. I know some people with autism who I didnt know had autism because it was so low functioning, yet never thought of killing themselves or other people.

How to buy a gun in the Netherlands: You must be an active member of a regulated shootingclub. After 1,5 yrs of active membership you are allowed to own ONE
.22 caliber handgun or rifle (not semi auto rifle). After another full year you are allowed to own a maximum of 5 guns up to 9mm/.38 or .308 rifle (not semi auto rifle). After another full year you can own a semi-auto .308 rifle as well.

As a Canadian firearms owner, listening to the video, it makes me think that despite all the criticisms of the more restrictive Canadian firearms laws, our system is actually simpler and better in some ways. First, one must successfully complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (typically delivered over 2 instructional days with a written and practical exam needing to be passed at the end of it). From there, one can apply for a federal Purchase and Acquisition License (PAL) (which is certainly a major paperwork undertaking, with 2 other people needing to provide references and requiring spousal approval (where applicable) and signature attesting the spouse has no safety concerns with the applicant receiving a firearms license). From there, the PAL application typically takes several months as the system is backlogged and the required criminal background checks take time. Mine took nearly 6 months to receive. By comparison, my son's application took less than 3 months. However, once the license has been issued and received, we can order firearms online (with provision of ID and the PAL) and have them literally delivered to our door (with ID and a signature of course). If you're buying a firearm from a bricks and mortar gun store, they can run a verification of your PAL and do a transfer of the firearm within just a few minutes and have you on your way with your new firearm. So our system, while initially slow and much more restrictive in many of the types of firearms one can legally own, is actually much easier once you are actually licensed. Not suggesting the Canadian system is all good. But certain aspects are much easier once the up-front licensing has been achieved.

Here in Canada you must complete a course to get a firearms license for a non restricted such as a shotgun or hunting rifle, then another course for a restricted license for things such as handgun or AR( before they banned the sales of them) once you passed the course you apply for the license , thats when the background checks are done. Once you have your license buying a gun is easy. A Non restricted i can go into a store have the license verified and walkmout with it. I can buy online from a dealer , they check my license then ship right to my door. The same as buying from an individual online , they can ship direclty from the post office to me. Now a restricted their is a wait as you have to contact the firearms office and initiate a transfer and depending on the province it could take a day to several months, once its approved it can be shipped directly to my door.

@Douglas Heinrichs sports shooters are probably the most pissed off about the new laws. People that shot 3 gun or pistol shooters have either lost the ability to shoot their preferred firearm or in the pistol sports the ability to buy any new guns. Hunters are loosing some of the semi's they used like the mini 30 or mini 14 and a few others. Their is a group of people who like to have more self protection /castle type laws to be allowed and a even smaller group would like to see CCW.

It's actually probably easier to buy a gun here in Austria. Well at least a category c gun (bolt action, lever action, long barrelled revolver or single/double shot gun). They're not licensed so if you your an EU national and you live in Austria you can just go to a gun shop. Show them an ID and residency doc. They fill the paperwork in for you. They do a background check (which isn't as strict as yours as only violent offences and court ordered weapon bans are taking into account - not non violent crimes) and you pick the gun and ammo up three days later (we have a three day waiting period). They don't ask any questions at all. They are though registered in your name on the federal database which kind of sucks. If you want a semi auto or hand gun you have to have a license which makes things a little more complicated but they are fairly easy to get so it's not too bad.

Then the issue I always have is it logs me off the website if I take to long to fill it out. Then I end up rushing to fill it out, make a mistake filling out the form then get delayed. This shit happens every time I purchase a firearm. The 4473 form done online is a terrible set up. Then the background check takes to long and 90% of the time I get delayed. It’s a piss poor set up.

I had then moved out of Multnomah County in middle of February 2023 and applied for my CHL permit transfer into Jefferson County (HEAVY red county) and instantly got my CHL transfer that same day. I have STILL been held on a delayed status for firearm transfer from that original firearm purchase of a PSA AKV9 back on 11/26/2022. I plan on finally going over the mountain range to OSP to see what the heck is the delay! Wish me luck in Oregon!🤞🍀
