Your in Oregon that's one crazy mountain and takes forever to get over. Be careful last year I was almost involved in a 19 truck pile up in Montana on 90
A couple of years ago I worked for a mom and pop company shifting old tires in crappy old equipment here in central PA. One of the older trucks had no engine or jake brake, always hissing away with leaking air and let me tell you going down a steep mountain curvy county road whilst fully laden was far worse than this. Didn't stay there long!
i remember my first time down donner's. learned how the jake works that day.after that piece of cake. but i never test a mountain. i go how i feel is not gonna put people or myself in danger. no life is worth the load i'm carrying
That's awesome your in my neighborhood, that hill you came down is Cabbage Hill. You're lucky lately it's been shut down multiple times for wrecks and spin outs for winter weather. The Pilot in Stanfield, OR. Be safe.
Why do you have your Hazard flashers ON ? In europe thgey can only be used for an imminent danger or when you are stationary. Do you not have high intensity rear fog lamps ?
Awesome video. I remember that down hill ride very well. Alex one way to remember the direction you go with landing gear and you may already know this, however if your picking up trailer you go with the truck and if your dropping trailer you crank toward back of trailer or right.
If it's a drop and hook, should it really matter when it's dropped? When I was at my last company, and I had drop/hooks, my appointments were always open-ended, and I did go to a Target-DC once, as well as Walmart-DC's.
And in Canada we’re on allowed to break for 2 seconds at a time. If you experience break fade or break loss from over breaking over them 2 seconds at hit someone you could be looking at 8 years jail for attempt of manslaughter. That’s why we have our jake and gears. Breaks are absolute last resort.
Just a tip while checking for an empty, as you go along the side of it while checking for a seal, pound along the side of it. If loaded it will pound hard, while most empties, unless really short pallets it will sound hallow and usually flexes...just a fyi..safe travels and keep the rubber side down 👇👎😀

Are truckers only allowed to stop at certain truck stops? I noticed Alex mentioned specifically having to stop at a Pilot. Do companies specify certain brands that you have to use?
@@branleyprevil3110 So, if you run out of fuel earlier it is essentially having to pay out of pocket because the company didn't calculate mileage vs fuel economy correctly? @@Reaper006 idk about the smaller company but the mega company have you location and information they know when the fuel is low so they give you a route to a truck stop and if you really need fuel, you can send a form messages letting them know you are in need of diesel and you are allow to spend 300 on diesel on the company card but they have to accept your request

If you ever get the chance to Bob tail through this stretch you should check out the old highway that parallels the highway for a stretch. Amazing views.
Tell me your procedure in that truck when going downhill. Do you switch to manual? I was just given the same truck and i don’t trust it to go to the mountains because its an automatic.
Cabbage Pass it's 6 miles of 6% downgrade ahead with 3 warning signs the last says final warning 6 miles 6% downgrade it can be dangerous if you are not paying attention and over using your brakes and many have lost their lives there especially at the curves which you should be at 55 mph so you did great good job trucker.
As a new trucker (just on three months now) I’ve been checking out trucking UA-cam videos and you are my favourite by far! So in Australia, when a truck is passing we flash them with our high beams when they’re clear. They then thank you by flicking on their indicators, left right left right. But I notice you guys don’t do that.
Flashing the highbeams during the day is fine, doing that at night is more than likely going to piss someone off, you may get blinded by rearward facing spotlights or some other sort of retaliation.

U are right and I hope that I'm doing it in the spring. Good luck and be safe 👍🙏😇
Cabbage hill it's always an experience. And always remember you'll only go down a hill once too fast.
Try Donner Pass in the winter. With no jake.
Poor Alex got fired lol
American trucks are so small compared to europ trucks. This is about half the weight of a standard euro truck...
i remember my first time down donner's. learned how the jake works that day.after that piece of cake. but i never test a mountain. i go how i feel is not gonna put people or myself in danger. no life is worth the load i'm carrying

Hey, does Variant have GPS in their trucks?
I laughed when you opened up the diaper filled trailer! Haha. I love your videos so much.
Awesome video. I remember that down hill ride very well. Alex one way to remember the direction you go with landing gear and you may already know this, however if your picking up trailer you go with the truck and if your dropping trailer you crank toward back of trailer or right.
😂😂😂 the diapers, I tried not to laugh.
Hey driver I have been driving since 1984 one rule for going down grades are many times to slow only once to fast. Take care stay safe
MAX speed for going down Cabbage is 18 MPH if you have 77,000 lbs. suggested by Oregon DOT
Yes that’s true
Why cant they accept deliveries early? As long as it's not a weekend they can accept deliveries from 9 to 5 no?
Welcome to the Pacific Northwest. ❤️
Was that a quote??? "Get Out"
If it's a drop and hook, should it really matter when it's dropped? When I was at my last company, and I had drop/hooks, my appointments were always open-ended, and I did go to a Target-DC once, as well as Walmart-DC's.
And in Canada we’re on allowed to break for 2 seconds at a time. If you experience break fade or break loss from over breaking over them 2 seconds at hit someone you could be looking at 8 years jail for attempt of manslaughter. That’s why we have our jake and gears. Breaks are absolute last resort.
Often do they change tires on a trailer?🤔
Just a tip while checking for an empty, as you go along the side of it while checking for a seal, pound along the side of it. If loaded it will pound hard, while most empties, unless really short pallets it will sound hallow and usually flexes...just a fyi..safe travels and keep the rubber side down 👇👎😀

Hey Alex ik this is an old video but i finally started my trucking journey with Swift. Already 1 week in with driver training and we went to that same loves you were at at the beginning of the video in Oregon.
Thx for your videos
Are truckers only allowed to stop at certain truck stops? I noticed Alex mentioned specifically having to stop at a Pilot. Do companies specify certain brands that you have to use?
We can go to any truck stop but our company card only allow us to get diesel at certain truck stop
@@branleyprevil3110 So, if you run out of fuel earlier it is essentially having to pay out of pocket because the company didn't calculate mileage vs fuel economy correctly? (I do not know much about trucking and have only done a few long road trips myself so excuse me if the question is asking something that is simple).
@@Reaper006 idk if that’s every company but Werner do that
At my company we can stop anywhere but I mainly use pilot truck stops to accumulate the reward points for free showers and other rewards.
Ur a good driver is this ur first time? Being there so u that brake has to be engaged the entire time ur going down that mountain?
A trucker must have the patience of Job to get through these sometimes frustrating driving assignments.
Alex next time you some one tells you to get out like that guy did ask him who's he talking to if he's still arogant ask for his boss.Never let someone talk to you like that.
How much does someone typically get paid for such a load??
Why did you drop trailer on the yellow line when you had room on passenger side to move over and give more room to crank dolly's
What do you think of the New telsa Semi
same as here over here that brake u mentioned is called a retarder i never knew what to do with that going down hill and just used my reguler brake the whole time lol
The only thing I found weird was the emergency lights - I mean, why did you turn them on, just because of a bit of fog?
He puts them on for literally everything
@DATA -Beach I mean I think there's no need for them turned on either because of the fog or the steep grade, thank idk
@@Vosmalus it shows weakness
Don't listen to these knuckleheads about using your hazards. Keep using them it might actually be the law sometimes and safety 1st safety last. I been truckin a long time and I see some good driving habits. I like how you put the landing gear on the concrete too when it was there 10-4.
Very good job Alex
Cabbage Pass it's 6 miles of 6% downgrade ahead with 3 warning signs the last says final warning 6 miles 6% downgrade it can be dangerous if you are not paying attention and over using your brakes and many have lost their lives there especially at the curves which you should be at 55 mph so you did great good job trucker.
I go down that mtn every single day. That area is very often foggy in the winter time.

what can you even do on days off on the road? Do you drive around with you're truck or do you just park and hang out?

As a new trucker (just on three months now) I’ve been checking out trucking UA-cam videos and you are my favourite by far!
So in Australia, when a truck is passing we flash them with our high beams when they’re clear. They then thank you by flicking on their indicators, left right left right. But I notice you guys don’t do that.
Flashing the highbeams during the day is fine, doing that at night is more than likely going to piss someone off, you may get blinded by rearward facing spotlights or some other sort of retaliation.
They flash all the truck light when a truck driver is passing
We do that in the UK
My jaguar has rear fog lights that are bright red to keep from getting ran into from behind in the fog.
Where is your company out of and it's good to see you and happy holidays to you and your family
Can you go into Oregon without a PUC sticker now or do you still have to buy a trip permit, haven't been there in 10 years, just curious
If your not set up to go through Oregon it's not worth it. Deposit money and pay for miles driven on that trip. Last I knew. The only good thing is they raised the speed limit for trucks.
@@chriswiggins214 to an extent there are still parts of Interstate 5 and surrounding interstates in the state of Oregon that are still 55 mph for trucks and buses
Is that also a jake brake? Engine brake
the first number of your truck or trailer is the year of it at us xpress incase you didnt know if it starts with 1 its a 2021 if it starts with 2 its a 2022
As Burt Reynolds from Smokey & The Bandit used to say, “Diapers??? Shitty deal”. 😂

Hey I just took my class A CDL test yesterday and passed and I was wondering if you'd be able to help with some advice because I plan on doing OTR
Also I like your vids they really helped me with the idea of my pretrip during my classes
Try not to burn your self out by staying out too long on the road. For example I stayed out once for 4 months on the road before I went home and I regret it, you’ll feel like shit. Try and take some long breaks when u go home 2-3 weeks atleast
You are awesome man! Stay safe!
As a yard goat driver I appreciate you putting the landing gears on the concrete
That actually looks like my yard but I’m in Fontana target yard off of the I 10 and cherry ave even tho this is not my yard I wonder is this a target distribution center ??
@@kevindelgado1335 yes is a target distro
@@shotgunz124 I hate target tho there so picky on safety I get safety but then there over board safety like they have us back in to the dock and half way in u half to set ur air breaks hop out walk to the back of ur trailer make sure there’s no one standing there then u can bump the docks
You don't really put your right-side wheels over the fog line this often, do you?
