Video doesn't show the side streets. There are some beautiful houses and apartment buildings in Bed-Stuy and many houses go for well over a million. Crime has been at or near all-time lows for several years now. So it's really nowhere near as bad as many commenters here, who are apparently shocked by seeing a community full of black people going about their daily business on regular urban streets, seem to imagine.
Many of the people commenting here have never lived in a diverse community of working class people like NY. I don't think theres a more diverse place than NY. It really is the crossroads of the world. I grew up seeing blacks whites asians hispanics all going about their business on a day to day basis. Rush hour buses and trains are packed in the am and pm with all sorts going and coming from work. People outside of NY don't understand.
I'm a 38 year old tall white male from Canada, who stayed in Bed-Stuy twice in the past year. Walked around everywhere, even at 4am. Never felt unsafe even once. In NYC, if you walk and seem like you're in your own world, nobody bothers you at all.
I visited New York for the first time last September. I took the subway to Brooklyn and walked around for a bit. It was just like the video shows. People going about their business. It reminded me of southern Dallas.
For some strange reason this is so satisfying TBH I just feel great seeing Brooklyn again I moved out east on Long Island and I miss Brooklyn so much man

+terector1 You are truly an idiot. There are good and rotten sides in every city, and this video focuses on the more grimy aspect. The posher sides of NYC where are the wealthy live are fantastic - that's why it is a global city, and one of the top (if not THE top) city in the world.
Dont be discouraged. I have been to nyc 13 times all they way from Europe.NYC is a fantastic city but in my opinion stay only in Manhattan.Whenever i tried to go somewhere else i was so much frightened, so i left
Not unlike downtown Los Angeles, when I had my condo at San Pedro and 5th, and where walking was always an adventure. One noticeable difference is how much cleaner the Brooklyn streets are. Although Los Angeles has the BID (Business Improvement District), the armada of street cleaners and trash picker uppers could barely keep up with the amount of discarded debris. Denis, what were you using for video capture? Moderately stable, pretty sharp, good capture - good enough for UA-cam. Thanks.
+43520tom Social housing projects and cheap rent. And cheap rent is for poor, who cant afford anything, so local shops close because no customers, and then kids have nothing to do so they start crime because they are bored

it's AWESOME to be rich/well-off in the big Northeastern cities like NYC, Philly, Washington D.C. etc......but otherwise, it's like you said, dirty and over-crowded. that's why so many working class people from NYC and Philly are moving down to Florida or Texas, where there's more space and cheap suburbs....it gives you a chance at peace, quiet, and a piece of property to call your own, even if you aren't rich.
Fun story: In 2009 me and my family visited New York from Ireland. My father booked accommodation. Our accommodation ended up being located in Bedford-Stuyvesant. The first night we got there we turned on the news and heard that a man was murdered on our street. A few days later in the subway of NYC we asked a female black subway worker for directions home, when she found out where we were living her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. She told us we weren't safe there at all. The next morning I woke up to my dad desperately searching for alternative accommodation. We ended up staying there for the remainder of the holiday. When I think back, I didn't see a single white person around there during the entire stay. It really was like living on a street from The Wire. I always remember everyone staring at us on the subway there. We were so fair and pale must have looked like a different species to them.
