I knew my 1 bed was tiny but seeing your video really opened my eyes to how much they’re ripping me off. The studio you showed even has a walk in closet - my 1 bed has a tiny “closet” in the bedroom and no hallway closet.

You might change your mind after feeling the building move when it's really windy. I think I have a phobia of these structures now, I keep envisioning the whole thing snapping in half during a bad storm. Beautiful apartments though,,,way too much $$.
I moved into a building that has 90+ floors. A few years ago there was a fire in one of the flats in the lower floor. The fire was contained to that flat (yay for incredible sprinklers). My hubby and I had to walk down 70+ floors! The walk wasn't as bad as it sounded, but my legs were jelly by the time we reached the lobby. 😅

@@sundinfamforlife4129 oh yeah I've heard of those buildings in Hong Kong, looks pretty impressive. I wouldn't be surprised if more mega high rises pop up in NY. I've gotten kinda used to crazy buildings since moving overseas.
That massive antenna you mentioned is the radio mast at Brooklyn Technical High School, my alma mater. It was the tallest structure in Brooklyn until the rise of skyscrapers in Brooklyn.
You're right. At $214-$233 per night, it is like living in a hotel! I love the architectural design of the building though. And your reporting is great (as it always is).

It really looks very eerie. And grant it, anyone who was here during 9/11 standing outside in downtown, Brooklyn watching the twin towers crumble down across the bridge in lower Manhattan, would be a little terrified of low flying planes and strong winds if you're living on those extremely high floors.
I'm impressed! I never thought anyone would ever build anything like this in Brooklyn. I grew up n a 6 family building two blocks from the Queens line in Bushwick. The other side of ST. Nicholas Avenue was Ridgewood. We lived in a fairly modern building that was built with a real tiled bathroom and built in bathtub and sink. It even had a window looking into the back yard. Carpeted hallways and stairs. The front doors had beveled glass. The building was well cared for because the owners lived in it. Rose bushes covered the entire back yard with borders of little flowers. There was a fig tree and a patch of herbs like basil which we picked for cooking. The building was rent controlled and we paid $50.45 a month until 1964 when we moved to Florida. We had very good handpicked neighbors who lived there long term. By comparison my grandparents lived on the next street up. The bathroom was an add-on because it used to have a shared room on each floor. There was a window that opened to the airshaft. My Great Grandmother and her sister used to own the building. After she sold it there was a progression of owners who didn't take care of at all. The apartments turned over constantly with drunks, a prostitute and loudly fighting people. Those apartments now rent for $4,000 a month. The neighborhood has changed. It was originally Dutch, then German. It was Sicilians when I lived there and now it is Hispanic. Many of the people work at the hospital. It used to be Wyckoff Heights but now it is Columbia Presbyterian. $5000 a month for this tower is not a real stretch from these apartments and they are much nicer.
I have no interest of real estate, and even just visiting NYC makes me anxious, but I love watching your channel . I also hope Brooklyn Tower paid you well for this one!
Dol Guldur. Hard to believe that someone at SHoP Architects didn’t speak up during an early phase of the project: “hey, folks, have ANY of you on the design team seen Lord of the Rings? No?” Imagine the fun they’ll have at the next AIA convention. “We designed the Brooklyn Tower!” “oh yeah, the one that looks like the embodiment of evil, err… ahem… I think my mom is calling me, gotta go.”
I don't know anyone who would spend $5,000 to live in a studio. And for $2000 more you can have a wall to separate the bedroom . LOL, If there's somebody out there that would spend that kind of money to live in a studio, I want to meet you. I have a lot of questions for you.😂
The rule of thumb for landlords is monthly rent*40 = minimum yearly income. The cheapest apartment is $5165. So you need a minimum of $206,600 yearly. The average household Income in the neighborhood where that building is located is $213,208. So a below average household can easily get that studio.
@@lance3635 What neighborhood? I looked up city data for Brooklyn and the median income in 2021 was 67k a year. There seems to be a wide range of wages in Brooklyn so this place is not for everyone. Seems like a lot of high earners are bailing out of NYC.

My viewpoint exactly. Even the homeless could afford to live there. And just think, while you're in your beautiful apartment , your car is being vandalized by the homeless people that surround the property.
@@bestever102 I'm there all the time. I live in Inwood, where it's still cheaper than anywhere in Williamsburg or Greenpoint. The cost to go to a restaurant there is insane too. We're talking downtown Manhattan prices.

I love watching your videos. I look forward to your new ones every day. You really give insight into what it's like in New York. I use to want to visit until all the chaos has been taking place. It blows me away with the prices of rent. I live in a 4 bedroom house with 2 full bathrooms and a big yard, and we only pay $800 a month. I notice dirty windows when you visit these rental units sometimes. It must be pretty interesting to clean the glass on this building. As a window cleaner by profession I think about these things when I see your videos. ❤
This building is down the block from my home. It stands between me and Trader Joe's. The one thing about it that stands out is that during cold, feezing temperatures shards of ice like glass fall from the windows and crash down to the ground below. And that was when the building was half as high and surrounded by scaffolding! I'm not going near that place when freezing rain and snow kicks in!
You don't know how happy I was when I found a Dollar Tree in Queens and Brooklyn and even more so in Boston. Made my day when I had work assignments in those areas
I'm not typically a fan of modern architecture but they did an amazing job of the quality, colors and textures of the inside and out ! Sharp angles and corners, it all kinds of flows and the different elements compliment and accent each other.
I was lucky to have a tour of the Brooklyn Tower and the bank building last year. Stunning. I grew up going to downtown Brooklyn for shopping, and it's shocking how much it's changed since the 70's/80's.

Given the guideline of shooting for allocating 30% of your income on rent, you're looking at the barrier to entry as follows: Studio: 200k/year 1bed: 250k/year 2bed: 140k/room/year I'd love to see content creators to try their best to highlight the more "affordable" options and recognize that most people arent looking to spend 2/3 of their income on rent in an ideal situation.
I agree with you , but this content creator has nothing to work with , there is no affordable housing in NYC . I do however agree most content creators can do much better , but we both have to admit we like seeing these buildings even though we are smart enough to see it is full rip off .
I think all the apartments are beautiful, I would be happy just living there in the first apartment! Cash I love watching your videos. Your awesome!! ☺
This building is a case study on how to keep gorgeous Old World architecture while _also_ adding modern buildings. So grateful they preserved that regal marbled interior and exterior of the historic bank. Modernism is awesome on its own, but only when it doesn’t demolish timeless structures in the process; we’ve lost too many architectural treasures from incredibly talented craftsmen in America to count 😔
It looks like the eye of Sauron tower. Stainless kitchen cabinets look great but the black wall makes the kitchen look even smaller. I like the Laundry in the unit .
“One does not simply walk into Brooklyn. It’s bridge is guarded by more than just homeless people. There is evil there that does not sleep, and the Brooklyn Tower is ever watchful.”
I remember back when my dream was to live in a high rise in midtown…. We make plans, god laughs… the idea of living in something like this now is horrifying to me. Even if it is in Brooklyn. I’ll always love my hometown, but I’m happy to live in a garden apartment in Florida 😂
Funny i used to have a dream of living in a highrise penthouse in Manhattan in my early 20s. Left NYC in my mid 20s cause...tired of being broke and living in a micro studio apartment. Have owned several homes in FL and Texas since then and never looked back. They can keep the NYC penthouse and NYC😂😂
Honestly these apts look better than most modern ones he's shown us! They at least have some character and nice color palettes and alrhough they are way above MY price range, for NYC these days, they arent as expensive as I thought they'd be.
While in college, my friend and I split a one bedroom like it was 2 studios in one. We shared the kitchen and bathroom, but I had the bedroom as my living/dining/bedroom... while my roommate had the living/dining area as a living/dining/bedroom. I got more privacy because I could go into my room and shut the door, while my roommate had more space as the living/dining area was bigger than the bedroom. So it was a trade-off. We split the rent in half. It ended up being cheaper than if we each had our own studio. But the benefit of a bigger and nicer kitchen and bathroom than were in the studio apartments. It worked really well because we mostly kept to ourselves and left each other alone, and did our own thing. Having different hobbies and watching completely different shows on TV. This 2 bedroom is interesting. I think we'd find a way to split it for 4 roommates, but 2 of them may have to share the larger bedroom. It's the only way to make the prices affordable.
@adamblack6867 depends on the building, if it's a luxury living where a person buys the house and rents it out they can certainly do whatever they want but if it's the building or management company yea you are right.
I was wondering if anyone else thought that the top of the building looked like it should have the eye of Sauron hovering above it? Nice apartments though.
My building has ten floors. And i live on the 9th floor. What's scary is someone cooking and setting fire. Which since I've lived here have been evacuated numerous times. So to many floors for me to escape.😮😮😮😊
I want to know how the windows get cleaned. There's no point in having fabulous views if you can't see well through the windows. Personally, I couldn't spend 2 seconds that high up.
House prices are also ridiculous. Ultimately, owning a house costs more than you think. Maintenance, lawn care, insurance, taxes, etc.. It’s not for everyone. That being said, I would just move somewhere else, lol.
It looks like it needs a giant flaming eye hovering above it.
I went there too. 🙃

It’s noisy to the point where they charge you for honking or having an exhaust on your vehicle , you have to pay $25 just to get to and from work on tolls and that’s assuming all New Yorkers have a car (they don’t they can’t afford it ) look up what percent new Yorkers are car less and that all to live in a storage closet for 12 months outta the year, yay lemme have company over at my storage closet apartment where my kitchen is my storage and my washer dryer and my shitter / bed that’s also not up to code so at any moment I’m gonna be put out that 5k a month apartment i would be RENTING. And not a single normal person lives in this building an it will remain 80% vacant forever.
Whoo-wee, you get to live near a Target, Dollar Tree, and Burlington Coat Factory! Living the high life in NYC!
P.S. Loved the video.
I was selected for a lottery unit in this building I will be moving into soon. It’s a 1 bedroom, but it’s barely the size of the studio you showed, because these buildings make their affordable units much smaller since they’re less profitable / to maximize space for standard rate units. I knew my 1 bed was tiny but seeing your video really opened my eyes to how much they’re ripping me off. The studio you showed even has a walk in closet - my 1 bed has a tiny “closet” in the bedroom and no hallway closet.
So, what is a lottery unit?
How much is the rent ?
You might need under bed storage and fire extinguishers.
Get a Murphy bed.
The affordable units should legally be the same average size as the market rate units.
Its just missing the eye of sauron!😅 but it couldn't afford the rent😂

Beautiful apartments though,,,way too much $$.

I moved into a building that has 90+ floors. A few years ago there was a fire in one of the flats in the lower floor. The fire was contained to that flat (yay for incredible sprinklers).
My hubby and I had to walk down 70+ floors! The walk wasn't as bad as it sounded, but my legs were jelly by the time we reached the lobby. 😅
How long did that take, walking down that many floors, that sounds super bad. My claustrophobic and acrophobic self could never.
@@KeilaBevins about 30 minutes. I imagine it would be not good for claustrophobia, even if the stairs were wide.
They have buildings like this in Hong Kong. It’s not uncommon in places with lots of people, but limited space. I can see more of these buildings coming to NYC
@@sundinfamforlife4129 oh yeah I've heard of those buildings in Hong Kong, looks pretty impressive. I wouldn't be surprised if more mega high rises pop up in NY.

Don't worry it will end up as a New Jack City, a Judge Dredd dystopian epicenter or if we're really lucky a Tower of Sauron.
It's like the Nat West tower, augmented with additional materials.
It reminds me of the WEF 15 minute cities, and this is the start of folks living on top of everyone else and all shops near hand.

Wow!! I wonder how the ancient infrastructure in NY will manage the water and sewage.
You're right. At $214-$233 per night, it is like living in a hotel! I love the architectural design of the building though. And your reporting is great (as it always is).

It needs a huge gargoyle sitting on the top. I remember the quote from the Movie: the towering inferno. They just keep making them taller.
It really looks very eerie. And grant it, anyone who was here during 9/11 standing outside in downtown, Brooklyn watching the twin towers crumble down across the bridge in lower Manhattan, would be a little terrified of low flying planes and strong winds if you're living on those extremely high floors.
wow, man back to back videos! Cash content is on fire! i think you should already run a nyc news network by now :)
I'm learning so much about buildings I pass on my bike commute to work every day. This is the 2nd building you've done that I pass all the time.
The newest addition to the 15-minute neighborhood
Exactly what I thought of when I saw the title😑.

No?” Imagine the fun they’ll have at the next AIA convention. “We designed the Brooklyn Tower!” “oh yeah, the one that looks like the embodiment of evil, err… ahem… I think my mom is calling me, gotta go.”
Well tbh I think it looks badass and I’d totally try to live there lol
shhhhh. it's Doll Guild's Door, a subdivision of Mattel!
Imagine not approving a building because residents FEELS like it's too gothic.
That's a great floor plan for a studio, one of the best I've seen. I don't care for the building but great studio.
I don't know anyone who would spend $5,000 to live in a studio. And for $2000 more you can have a wall to separate the bedroom . LOL, If there's somebody out there that would spend that kind of money to live in a studio, I want to meet you. I have a lot of questions for you.😂
Yeah, if I could afford that I would get a house instead.

There are Bankers, Tech Bros, CEOs, etc who make over 500K/year. I think that is the crowd that is being targeted for this building.

You must not have been in downtown Brooklyn for a while. It’s been the norm for years. It’s very expensive

I had the same thoughts and not even a window cleaner 😅
Almost as if windows are everywhere 😁
That was the first thing I thought about too...
They had the sidewalk closed off last year because of that ice….

Given the guideline of shooting for allocating 30% of your income on rent, you're looking at the barrier to entry as follows:
Studio: 200k/year
1bed: 250k/year
2bed: 140k/room/year
I'd love to see content creators to try their best to highlight the more "affordable" options and recognize that most people arent looking to spend 2/3 of their income on rent in an ideal situation.
I agree with you , but this content creator has nothing to work with , there is no affordable housing in NYC . I do however agree most content creators can do much better , but we both have to admit we like seeing these buildings even though we are smart enough to see it is full rip off .
