Just like last year I planned to make this comparison video considering there we significant changes to the main camera lens to the iPhone this year. This is intended to be a fun exercise into just how far cameras have gotten on phones but this year feels like the first year something has changed. The scope of this video changed as I was editing these images and you'll have to watch to find out why.

It’s unbelievable how close both of those cameras are to each other! The iPhone really has become a super useful camera
Agreed!!
Would either of you have a tip on best app for night photos on regular iPhone 14? I’m enthusiast level ( in between expert and beginner). I like night photos in cities and also indoors at bars socializing.
Other than professional use (being advertisement, etc) Phone cameras are more than enough for every day people.
@@Perceptence True, but also the majority of people do not need that "perfect" bokeh and/or zoom, that's why I said for the majority of people, if not using pictures for commercial/professional use. A good camera phone is more than enough for your vacations. I do own a Canon Rebel and with a 50mm 1.5 lens I can see the huge diference, but for vacations with the family my iPhone is enough.
Considering the iphone sensor is smaller than your pinky fingernail.
This was a terrific video! Super informative & super impressive. As an iPhone 14 Pro Max owner, I am blown away myself at how capable its camera can be when used right.
Omg Apple is soooooo gud. Not.
Android cams can do that stuff for a longer time and some are better.
Nothing special.
Still no replacement for a real camera.
@@ryanlunzen9794 Do you carry your camera with you all the time?
It’s not really how it’s used in all honestly, it’s mostly about the conditions it’s used in. iPhones don’t do very well in bad/artificial lighting conditions (indoors).
used wrong, it aint that bad either
The best iPhone 14 camera test video I’ve seen. I have both the R5 and iPhone 14 pro max but I haven’t done a side by side like you took the time to do. I’ve been very pleased with the RAW capabilities of the iPhone and it’s nice having it when I can’t lug around my R5. The time you put into this video really shows. You’re one of the best video editors I’ve seen. God I wish I can make it to Colorado for fall colors some day!
Thanks so Ryan!
Yes but the battery life is just didn't improve!😔😌
This phone is also a 5G tech✌
@@introvert4everfreddy656 The recent Ios 16.1 update has improved the battery life 😊
where is this place
I just upgraded to the iPhone 14 Pro Max from the XS Max, and it's such a refreshing jump in overall phone and camera quality. I absolutely love the quality of the photos and videos especially with the 48 MP camera. I really enjoy this comparison to professional cameras because It's so amazing how much high quality technology they can provide in a phone! The projected iPhone 15 Ultra might be even more amazing with 48 MP, periscope lens, 8K recording, and USB-C!
I made the ultimate jump from the se 2020 to 14 pro lol
woah.. USB-C, don't be crazy :) haha
Me too…..just upgraded from XS Max to 14 Pro Max……. Great iPhone….no regret
@@mauricemotors8207 I have gone from a 7 to a 14 pro ;)
you got 256GB or 512GB? 48MP images can take up storage space quite fast
Bravo! What a fabulous video you produced. I loved seeing the side by sides with your R5, but mostly just wowed by your production, the storyboarding, the clear and easy presentation and feeling like I was a part of your journey. Well done!
Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for making this video. Felt honest, intelligent, and professional. Thank you for focusing on the photos and providing that knowledgeable discussion in the background. It's so refreshing compared to the other camera reviews out there where all I mostly see is the speaker, who also tend to be overly theatrical and obnoxious. (Also, the song you chose is fantastic and I've been playing it all night; so thanks for sharing that too).
Thanks so much for the kind words and donation RM. Words like these keep me going
@@AlexArmitage You should probably pin this donation comment.
Agreed!!!
I have watched many of these iPhone vs Camera tests and yours is definitely the best. Also your images are beautiful. I got what I came for, a proper comparison and knowledge. Thanks
I was looking through alot of videos for this comparison but this one hit the most! Thank you!
I just came across your video and I gotta say your one of the best I've watched, Keep up the good work Alex,
Really admire your work! You’re the first iPhone 14 Pro reviewer that I subscribe to! There’s so many reviewers out there, and this one is the best out of all, in terms of photography! Look forward to your new videos!
Thanks so much Bob and welcome!
Thanks Alex, great Video with so much effort and great shots! Helped me a lot with my decision
Awesome video and presentation. You've done a phenomenal job, keep it up
Appreciate this very much! Just got mine! Going to learn how to do the RAW on it. Thank you!!
I appreciate you showing the used camera at the bottom right and the comparison is done really well. Best comparison video I've seen, keep it up
oh and the editing segment at the end is really useful for someone like me with barely any Lightroom knowledge, really appreciated
Thanks so much for noticing
So close. Incredible. All of the sudden the 14 pro doesn’t seem so overpriced as many say, you get one heck of a camera to boot! Fantastic review Alex. Keep up the great work 👏. I’d love to hear how the dynamic range compare between the two, ie when you really push the raw images to their limits.
Awesome video, great comparison and also a great image editing, this is impressive, the detail of comparison, the time you took to share with us all the details of each image. We will be waiting for you to come! Greetings from Argentina :)
Best comparison ever! Great job man! Congrats!! Keep doing this great stuff. Now I’m happier and can not wait for my iPhone 14 pro to come!
This is an absolutely amazing video. Thank you so much for your efforts.
I was glad I picked B. Just got my first ever iPhone basically for the camera and I got the 14 pro. I will have to get use to it and your UA-cam really helped.
Fell across your video and was absolutely amazed at the time, thought and technical knowledge put into it.
Fantastic job and such a pleasure to watch. Thank you, it has made my day.
Welcome aboard!
Love your video. Very detailed, nice work.
Absolutely outstanding video. I’m sure it was an incredible amount of work to make, and it’s truly appreciated. Thank you so much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing video. Amazing. Just so helpful and informative...and inspiring. Thank you
GREAT comparison and analysis - Thank you
Great video. Sure, I’ll support you. Watching you from Japan. Keep going!
Thanks for this great comparison. It is just what I wanted to see
Just got the 14 pro and very happy to use this when im not carrying a camera around. Im blown away by the image quality
Really interesting and helpful. Thanks!
Super comparison! Thank you! I know a phone can't give me all the control I'm used to having but the best camera is the one you have on you...
Eye opening. Well done comparison. Also, great photos and gorgeous landscapes!
Thanks so much Mark!
Great work, enjoyed the video thoroughly.
Thank you for the test , on the screen , it helped me a lot cos i take my images with my camera and my daughter with Iphone 14 and her pictures always look better ... i am also glad that you mentioned that you will be doing print test ...looking forward to watch
Such a great video! Love your personality and delivery. I’ve been feeling bad having to spend on my new 14 pro but you’ve definitely made it hurt less since I love photography but still saving up for my dream full frame camera. Thank you!
You can learn so much on just the phone! Don't wait for that dream camera :)
@@AlexArmitage 100%! I just use my APA-C to make videos and in the end just trying to learn and have fun. Enjoying the journey until then. ☺️
That music is dope!!!!❤❤
Super informative thank you, and the music is sick AF-esp at 12:30
thanks for all the information. I wanted to do some test shoot with my Canon R6 and my iPhone 14 Pro. I don't have to do it anymore. Really impressive!
Nicely done! I just ordered an iPhone 14 pro max. At 8x10 it's tough to tell which is which, but how big an enlargement before iPhone image loses it compared to larger format!
I love your comparisons so much! Beautiful images! :)
Thanks An :)
Great vid as always. Also, I really love the song used in this one. Heard it on one of your vids a while ago and play it a lot now. 👍🏻
It's one of my favorites!
Great comparison, thank you!
Thanks for this very beautiful and informative comparison test! I just purchased the iPhone 14 Pro with the hope it would allow me to reduce my load hauling my Canon 5D mk iv. At 76 it is getting tough to carry all the Canon equipment... I quickly took a test shot with my new iPhone to print on my 17 x 22 printer to see how it looked. I was blown away. Now I am blown away even more. I will be traveling light... I subscribed to your channel and will enjoy following you on your trip to South America. Stay safe and thanks again for a professionally created product.
Fantastic video.. Well done Alex
Nicely produced, The tip regarding the Apple embedded colour profile was useful... Great work
Super excited I found this video and your channel. :) new sub!!
Welcome! And thank you :)
Great job with these comparisons. Your music, editing and detailed commentary is enjoyable to watch.
Thank you :)
Probably the best and most in depth camera review I've watched for the iphone 14 pro. That is ridiculously impressive.
Fantastic video, extremely informative!
I’ve been waiting for this video before I decide if I should upgrade from my 11 pro. After seeing your comparison video on the 13 pro I knew this one would be comprehensive, fair and informative. It certainly is. I now have all the information I need so I just have to make my decision. Thanks Alex for the benefit of your expect knowledge…and I love the Daniel Gunnarsson music
thanks Mary!
@@AlexArmitageyou can improve the details in low light on 14 pro if you enabled the nightmode + 48mp raw and set it to maximum exposure
When using the ProRAW profile, you can adjust the HDR effect using the slider. Setting it to zero sort of emulates the other Apple enhanced profile. I usually set the ProRaw profile to 75-80% to bring some shadows, but it is your choice. Incidentally in the latest LR, you now can choose. between the enhanced and proraw profiles.
Still playing around with editing method and it seems the embedded profile is gone on the new 2023 LR
Dude! Your logo and the way you reveal it is one of the coolest I have EVER seen!! SO cool!!! Great content too. Just subbed!
Welcome and thank you David!
I appreciate this video and love seeing the comparison. I'm new to photography and have been using an iPhone to take my pictures and build my portfolio. But I always felt that my work was subpar because I was using a phone. But the iPhone 14 has changed things and I can take amazing pictures and not feel financially pressured to buy a mirrorless camera. Great video Alex and great attention to detail. Keep up the awesome work!
You made my day! "Work was subpar" because of using a phone - for sure... . And "financially pressured" to buy a used MFT with two or three decent lenses which will outperform ANY Smartphone because even those can do shots no smartphone can do - at a price which is a THIRD or HALF the price of an iPhone 14?? Get real - you"re too lazy for serious photography which starts at taking more gear with you and ends with knowing your gear. BUT: THAT is perfectly FINE. As the best camera is that you have at the moment you want to take a picture... PS: I have a even more serious problem - Smartphone manufacturerers think that even their cheapest model must have at least two back facing cameras... I just need one to take QR codes. For real prictures I have my MFT gear with me.
@@kaptnwelpe5322 Exactly. Any camera, even a cheap used Micro Four Thirds camera like a Panasonic G7 or GX80 for $250 absolutely blows the iPhone 14 Pro out of the water, there's simply no comparison. Detail, dynamic range, color science, sharpness... a $250 used G7 wins in spectacular fashion in every category.
probably the best iphone camera video. best one on the inernet. kudos to you man
Excellent video, ive had the iphone 14 pro for a while now but havent really kicked the tyres of how good it is yet. Your video has inspired me to leave my larger bodied cameras at home and really plumb the depths of what is always in my pocket. Merry Christmas as today is Christmas Day
The best comparison of the iPhone with professional cameras !! Really excited to get my 14 Pro Max now being a photographer as well 🤩
Thank you!
This was a very helpful video. Thanks for sharing! I would love to learn how you edit an Iphone photos (in more detail - I'm a noob).
great vid. I have a d850 but will order my 14 pro today in time for xmas. thanks
Awesome comparison!!!! thanks for your time!
My pleasure!
Great comparison and review.
Thank you dude ! amazing content ! Keep up the good work !
Thanks, will do!
Excellent video! Thank you 🙏🏽
I’ve just started taking pictures with my 14 pro max and I’ve been amazed by the quality of the photos, even without editing, it’s just crystal clear, no matter the occasion, and I’m even more pleased to see it’s so similar to a professional camera.
It’s actually fking insane. The cinematic mode is wild too if you’re into videography. Play around with it and you’ll be surprised what it can do.
I dont know much about cameras but man this was a very relaxing and aesthetic video. ❤
Absolutely brilliant work. This is such a masterpiece. The time and effort you put in this is really commendable.
Great video, great comparison. Well done 👏
Thank you so much
I'd be interested to see how the iPhone 15 Pro Max compares against professional camera like Canon. :)
Great content and comparison. Thanks for the great video!
Very welcome!
Great video dude, Thank you.
Superb video with excellent images and explanations outlining the approach, editing and analysis. It was interesting to see the difference in edting the RAW images and how close the results were with the R5. If you haven't tried it yet I can recommend the Nisi IPA landscape filter kit for iPhone to add another dimension to iPhone images. Great channel - you now have another subscriber. Thank you.
Hey thanks for the kind words Vincent. All I have is a polarizer for the phone, but didn't use it for these tests
Amazing video! me encantó. Muy útil e informativo
I really like your personality so this is a new sub and like keep the good work
nice photo alex. not only the gear, man behind camera is the key. very nice shot.
Hey thank you
Thanks for making this video. Absolutely great stuff honestly. Shocking how good the new iPhone 14 Pro 48MP sensor actually is. Great comparison!
Amazing video! Question: were you adjusting anything on the iPhone? Exposure and etc? Or simply taking photos using Raw, please?
Great video. I got an iPhone 14 pro and love it. I also have a cannon rebel g 35mm that I still use on and off but I feel my iPhone 14 pro blows it away.
Thank you for making this video. I can see how much work it took to put it together. I'd love to see a comparison doing a studio portrait photoshoot. Who knows, in a few more years maybe phones will replace the need for a professional camera.
As a photographer of 15 years, and having tried to find a travel setup that suited me, I've gone from compact SLR's (6D/24-70) to mirrorless setups (GX8 lumix), and then back to SLR's again. I actually bought an Iphone 14 Pro specifically to get rid of having to haul cameras around when travelling. for 99% of uses, it does the job amazingly, and is so much more convenient!
Thanks for the review!!! I have a 14 pro on order and it should be here by early/mid-November. Just in time for the Elton John concert on Nov 19. Now I won't fret about not taking my "real" camera into the venue.
Alex --- this is one of the best "shoot out" videos I have ever seen. Outstanding. Thank you. Good luck and safe travels on your journey.
hey thank you so much Jack!
Thank you for this comparison and the sample images which I have downloaded. The 48mp ProRaw images are impressive. I am mainly a wildlife photographer and for that carry a tele-focal lenses and therefore something like a 400mm will be mounted on my Sony A1, but sometimes see landscapes when out which I like to shoot, but don’t want to carry around a wide angle lens as well for very occasional use - so for that having high quality wide lens on a iPhone 14 Pro is a real boon. The previous iPhone never produced images which were good enough for me to be satisfied, so this is big step forwards.
Thanks for seeing this video for what it is rather than just commenting "oh it won't replace my wildlife camera" haha. I feel like people miss the excitement
Thank you so much for this video. This was a mind-opener! I own a iPhone 14 Pro Max and I was thinking to buy a Camera for my next trip to Asia. But as I can see, considering that I'm not a photographer and shoot most of the pictures in automatic mode, I've realized that my iPhone is more than enough. Your video confirmed me this! Again, amazing work, you really helped me!
Thank you for such a lovely comment :)
For a casual travel photographer I would recommend that you consider buying Sony RX10 mark IV as a partner to your iPhone. It has a tremendous zoom capabilities and a very sharp Zeiss lens. My own experience proves that it will surpass by far what any phone can offer while traveling.
Give a used Panasonic GF2, GX1 or an Olympus Pen PL a try, with some decent small mid-range lenses. Costs nothing compared to your iPhone and will take pictures your iPhone can only dream of. BTW: even if MFT lenses are interchangable - try to use the same brand as the body as the colours might be different in subtle ways if mixed... . PS: avoid bodies which have only an iPod like scroll wheel. The real fun of taking photograhps begins when having at least ONE real weel to control aperture and exposure compensation - either switchable by a button (Pen PL) or clicking the wheel (GF2 GX1) itself...
@@MaxusMV Every real camera will surpass a smartphone which has NO way of blurring the background. That was "Hidden" in this video as landscape photographers try to use an aperture that everything is in focus - which is a non-issue for smartphones...
@@kaptnwelpe5322 Computational photography makes wonders and most modern smartphones can do the so called portrait photos with quite a decent bokeh. I suggested Sony RX 10 IV as an example that proves that you can’t beat physics. Even the best telephoto lens in Samsung Galaxy s22 Ultra is not a match to 24 -600 optical zoom.
I subscribed from just watching your intro/background!
Wow, a really interesting video. I upgraded from the 11 to the 14 and it awesome. I have done full videos with just the iPhone 14. A great tool and I have all my Nikons and GoPros. I was able to relate to where you were shooting as I live in Montrose. Great video!😀👍
Thank you!
Thanks Alex, for Really nice Video! Its really obvious how much time you spent making it.
Thanks Peter.
C'est tout simplement la meilleure vidéo de test de smartphone que j'ai jamais vu. You deserve more subscribers dude !
Thank you!
Also your iPhone vs camera video has popped up lots of places and doing great , ever thinking making a few more and exploring maybe a little short cinematic shot outside?
I see what you mean, but I think that by limiting yourself to the same focal length and similar that you are overlooking the biggest advantage of modern cameras: their flexibility. Adjustable aperture, better optical zoom (often), variety of lens options, etc
The only reason I carry around my PowerShot G1X Mk3 is for the 3x optical zoom which uses an APS-C sensor capable of producing beautiful natural bokeh throughout the focal range, and the Canon colours are natural without the slightly HDR look you get from the iPhone. But at 24mm I have to admit the main sensor on the iPhone 14 Pro sometimes does a better job and you have 48mp to play with compared to 24.2mp on the Canon. Just need the same sensor behind the telephoto lens now.
This was a pretty good review. Thanks! I was actually looking to buy a small mirrorless camera as a lightweight backup to my DSLR, but I may end up just getting an iPhone 14 Pro - seems better for that job and about the same price or even cheaper than a nice spec mirrorless.
And easier to use and carry
19:49 The problem with the JPG one is not JPG but the oversharpening. Apple should just allow us to dial down the sharpening.
all manufacturers should. it's annoying they still dont, in 2023..
You nailed it Alex!
You earned my subscription ❤
Thanks Alex! This was an excellent study of both cameras. I really appreciated the detail and explanation to your experiment and outcomes. I am using your video to make my decision to buy the 14 Pro max. I shoot raw no my Cannon. I really thought I would appreciate the Raw feature on the I phone. After seeing your video - Wow - I was really surprised. And to be honest, if I had just seen the "out of the phone" shots only, I probably would have passed on it. But seeing what you could do with the Raw photos, it is worth the money. Thanks again!🙏
Thank you!
Great content, thanks!
Amazing location and amazing video!🤩

The intro... just wow!
You just convinced me to go and get the iPhone 14 Pro , great video !
Hello Alex Armitage,
The video about the comparison between two cameras is really nice and I enjoyed a lot.
I just wanted to ask you about the lens flare issue. Last couple of days I was experimenting with my iPhone 14 pro camera but I’m facing lens flare issues while shooting in a bright light spot. How do you get rid of those?Do you have any suggestions?
one of the best camera-reviews of the iPhone 14 pro on photography. wished for a video-section tho...
If you check out any of my recent vlogs. Majority of the video is shot on the 14Pro.
