Props to you to keeping it together. Groundies need to see the frustration, how else they gonna learn.

Damn man, I do not envy you. That shit is serious work. Ground guys always think you are being rude and mean when they just don't understand how taxing that shit is on the body. Big, dense wood like that is already miserable to cut when everything is going right. But when you start factoring in issue after issue like that it makes for a day from hell.
Maybe you already answered why but just out of curiosity, why did you guys not put a rope on it and fell it from the ground? Looks like you have room in two directions to lay it down.
Anyways. More power to ya brotha, that's a beast of a spar.

August Hunicky, it appears to me that our boy Trevor is failing to rock some suspenders on his fancy Monkey Beaver Harness. What do you think about that? Especially when he’s not looking forward to packing a big 660 up there. Suspenders makes it much nicer. I am digging that cord of Italian colors your rocking for a flip line. I think a A.R.T. basal anchor would’ve been perfect for hanging up a big saw. I’ve not ever chunked down big wood like that but I think if I had to, I’d probably rip the wood down the center and anchor myself and the pieces to half of that diameter. Although, It’s always easier said than done🧐

That was about 10x more patience than i wouldve had.. Ive found sometimes having to many groundies or brainless busy workers you end up without a brush pillow to drop the log on at the end and have to spar bigwood instead of one cut the stob, and fix 20 divets instead if one or two.. way to push thrrew man

Dude this video is so damn hilarious an painful to watch. Those big ass sticks are naturally ass kicking but with the saw falling apart then the short bar an the ladder an lanyard an the commentary complete with a weed hit to calm the nerves

Learned from you travor. You think pushing on a 661 size log is safe or helping? No sticks or wedges to keep the cut open?

I honestly find a steel core lanyard/flipline best for spar work and down right grip on the trunk.Even for deciduous trees not just conifers. Only time I ever use rope lanyard is near hydro. To each their own.
    Right on

Depending on the job and nature of the work sometimes I’ll carry both. Steel core as a primary and shorter rope lanyard with hitch climber pulley either as a second lanyard or acting as a TIP using the lower d-rings / rope bridge on my Petzl Sequoia. Occasionally utilize both lanyards and a climb line as a three TIP system on a spar to allow for better work position and stability.

OOooooH! I feel the Pain and Frustration. Ugh! A nasty spar. Now, after the fact, what would you do different (other than coming down and heading home😉)? How about cutting it below the fat area (6' down) and pulling the top off (let the boys on the ground cut it up)? I'm exhausted after watching it.

Haven't really thought about it since I finished this job there's probably some different things I could have done. All in all I only had to live that day one time and now it's in the past. F that tree haha
