I was inspired by my last post on cargo-style patch pockets, that I decided to do a hidden pocket version. I hope you find this video helpful so the next time you find a pocketless piece that you love, you can refer back to this video. Are the lack of pockets a deal breaker for you?
This video should have a million views. This worked perfectly. Explained beautifully, no filler to make the video long for no reason. I love it good job!!!!!!
Thank you! I am not much of a seamstress, but I wanted to add pockets to a costume. These directions were very easy to follow. I appreciate the free pattern download.
I needed to put a pocket in a dress for a musical I'm in to hold props, this was the perfect tutorial! I would say I'm at an intermediate level when it comes to sewing but this was so easy to follow that I think I'll be add pockets to a lot of my clothing from here on out.
Excellent video, thank you so much for making it crystal clear exactly where to sew when sewing the pocket in. I watched/read several other tutorials before finding yours and I was not confident that I knew how to successfully put in a pocket until seeing your video with such clear illustrations. Going to go cut out my pocket pieces right now!
That’s a great question. I think it’s possible but it will be difficult keeping the pockets “hidden”. The difference I think would be to sew the pocket together first then cut the opening on your skirt the width of the pocket opening and pin them with right sides together. Sew around the opening with a small zigzag stitch, tapering the seam as you get to the corners. If you decide to give it a go, I definitely recommend testing it out on scrap fabric first. Hope that helps! I will try to do a shorts video on it 😊
We all heard the dismay comment as we push our hands down the side of our hip "Awe no pockets" or someone not intentionally rubbing it in by asking "Does it have pocket?". I totally into seeing what you do to make that skirt into a dream one. Great tutorial (you make it look easy) and I really like the end results. Thanks for sharing and blessings to you and all in the days to come.
I've downloaded the pattern and cut my pocket fabric, but one question before I get started: if the skirt has a slight curve in the area where the pocket will be, is it best sew the pocket in a curved line to match the curve in the skirt? GREAT TUTORIAL -- it's the only reason I have the confidence to try this, as it is very clear and straightforward.
Hi Andrea, great question! Following the hip curve would help the pocket lay flat. If it’s a slight curve, try pinning the pocket in place as shown in the video to see how it looks before proceeding. If the pocket bunches, it’s best to follow the curve, but you may need to adjust the pattern slightly to make it work. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
Sign… you said right sides so I put right sides together... As a tutorial using different contrast would have saved my project. Otherwise fantastic fix for pocketless finds.

Can this be done to a garment without side seams, like a circle skirt?

Thank you! It's a mini heat press. You can find the link for it in the video description under my sewing supplies.

@@tiffanymichey Thanks so much!
I did those, but they are coming out
The link to the pocket pattern doesn't seem to be working? Are you able to add it again please?
Thanks for the heads up! Should be working now 😊
Super clear and helpful, but for me, 4” is too small for my hand! Made it 5”. Otherwise perfect!
Thank you! Appreciate the feedback. Glad you were able to make it work for you 😊
