      The TB303 sequencer is like this. Very difficult and annoying to enter stuff accurately, but random button mashing creates awsome acid basslines.

      That joke would've worked except mescaline is natural - not synthetic - It is usually harvested from cacti like peyote and san pedro IIRC. Well, I guess if we were splitting hairs it would be considered SEMI-synthetic... but y'know, just felt like it was *my* turn to be "that guy" for once lol

      I can't even pinpoint what genre it'd be; ambient pop? Experimental electronic? Techno jazzy... Thingy?
      But it's good enough for me to not write it off as "just pop"
      And by good i mean nit so repetitive, simple and samey as a billion othee songs to either make me go to sleep or want me to pull my ears out.

    Serious question... is it really frustrating to work with an instrument that is so unpredictable and you can't just get right to what you want? Or do you just have to deal with surrendering yourself over to trial and error until something sounds good? The latter is usually difficult for me anyway.

    • @stevenrempel
      @stevenrempel 6 років тому +7

      It makes you press record every time, because next time you turn it on it may not behave quite the same.
      The unpredictability is a strength, and a weakness. Mostly a strength IMHO.

    Mescaline is a great synth, and a real treat for anyone who enjoys experimentation and innovation (which I would argue is one of the real values in music and art in general).
    There are templates that are kicking around too to that you can write down the patches we create and get some semblance of repetition. I forget where they are, probably on the mescaline Facebook page though. check it.
