- How To Drop In On A Skateboard
So I took a trip to the new local park and decided to try my hand at making a video about dropping in. Dropping in can be super scary and intimidating when you're trying to learn it for your first time but will some confidence and a little prep you should be good. Just remember to always be safe if you don't feel comfortable with what you're doing. Hopefully you can learn this one because it will open up a whole new world of skatepark skating.
I think I may do a few more tutorials that are specific to skateparks coming up soon :)
As always, thank you for watching, and I will see you next time!

Hi ! First of all, I like your videos a lot and they are very helpful. That being said, I'd like to add a few things as I recently learned to drop in.
• I think that the key is that the shoulder that is in the front should NEVER be higher than the one that is at the back. That way, you will never slip out.
• Another thing that helps is to force your front hand to barely touch your nose when you're going to drop in. That way, you'll lean naturally and you won't even have to think about the previous advice.
• Don't think, just go.
• And a thing that you didn't mention but that is clearly visible on your video : your front foot MUST be perpendicular to the board. Don't place it like for a kickflip at a 45° angle. If you do that, you will not roll straight !!! Very important, 90° angle.
• And because it's 2018. Film yourself while trying, it will help you a lot to correct your mistakes !
hey! thank you for the added tips, i definitely agree with everything you said
PosiEric also a way to commit is to have ur friend or even you count down from 5. Helps me commit to everything.
The tip number two is what helped me to drop in. Its a great guarantee that you wont fall on your back. Also helps a lot to practice how to push the nose down towards the floor.
Peace ✌
Hulluu FetishWorld True for the practice. Been doing that a loooooooot !
PosiEric I set my front foot at 45 degrees. If I position it at 90 degrees, I can't keep balanced, and will most likely fall forward, so that is not a rule for everyone :)
"Looking cool is no excuse for brain damage." That needs to be on a shirt. Or a sticker.
Lady Talksalot I read your comment as he said that😂
I'm actually ganna make that a shirt anyone want to buy it
I wear pads and helmet because they look cool *for me
why do people say skaters say that literally nobody cares if you wear pads or not

U live in a nice place👍 hello from England, heading to the park today to drop in!!!
@@maximumnerdgaming7959 hello from england too
That’s a good skate park where is it?
Tried dropping in today... Didn't know concrete tasted as good as asphalt..
I belly flopped the concrete on a drop in once. A year later, my left shoulder still bothers me...
Untitled it’s ok lol, I’m pretty sure everyone gets the nice taste of concrete when you first do it. Lmao ik I did 😂
I landed on my arm and winded myself lol and then I got it on the next try
That helps a lot!

Exactly I'm sweat like crazy remembering last year when I fall lile 5 times on the same leg and almost broke it :'))
Dropped in today, fell down on my side and couldn't breathe anymore for a few seconds. Top notch experience!
Well tomorrow's another day :-)

Just learned to drop in on a mini ramp today! Tip: When you choose to actually drop in, you have to commit 100%. Your hurting yourself if you don’t!
Trainer Gabe Thank you !!
@@milkyshakeuwu1009 hey! I just dropped in for the first time today and this super nice guy came and helped me. I’m 14 and he was around in his 20s or late teens and my dad was there and he was waiting watching me through all my tries and I finally dropped in! I am so proud of my self and now I’m confident to go to skateparks because everyone is so nice and supportive
Sucks that the only ramps at my local skatepark are 2 meters high... Guess I'll just keep practicing my ollies
PretendSushi I feel that bro. Safety first
Lucky. My ramps are engineered for bikes. There’s like a 12 foot tall quarter pipe.
@@essentiallysuck9682 Haha, geez heck no forget that.
Nah man that just means you’ll be good as fuck on transition just overcome ur fears and rip
The ones in my park are barely over a meter. I think the nose of the board will hit the ground before the wheels do.
Best tip is just go for it. If you think too long, you won't do it. You think too much, you'll mess it up. Commit and you'll get it. It's honestly the easiest thing you can do. Easier than an Ollie. It took me two tries, first try I failed because I got scared, fell and ate shit. I realized it wasn't that bad, it isn't. So just commit and you'll be fine. Skating transition is really, really fun. I recommend just going for it.
Joe TheHoe thanks yoo !
thanks!
Motivation 101 thanks man
Thanks for the motivation.
Thank you

1 time I dropped from a big drop and I dind't know what I was doing back then and right before I dropped this grandma gave me her helmet so I used it to drop and I fell so hard on my head so I'm still thankfull for that 😂😂

I know how to drop in, i just need a skatepark...
My friend kept pressuring me to drop in on a mini when ive never done it before. I decided to go down a bank that was bigger than the mini instead. I died, but am still glad i at least went for SOMETHING lol
I have to walk a mile just to get to the skatepark I go to
Samee! The closest to my house is like 30 minutes away. I have only been once yesterday, but I was on vacation
celina rogers damn i take a one and a half hrs train ride
celina rogers skate there and itll take like 10 minutes
I dropped in 3 times
CAme bAck a day later and got scared shitless

YES! I have dropped in before, but I took a break from skateboarding and now it's scary again.
Easily the best tutorial channel on UA-cam for skating
Carson Bates better than braille
@@martinelli1177 Yep
people would say to their parents “ no i don’t wanna wear a helmet, people will think im a beginner. “ like come on. doesn’t matter, “ looking cool “ isn’t better then falling on your face.
True, but wait until your bully comes to the skatepark. That's my excuse.
I have a skater tik tok account amd people make fun of me in the comments cause i wear a helmet and cause i am a girl 😑

Me: *feeling a bit more comfortable dropping in since I'm watching a tutorial*
VL skate: here's what you should do so you won't DIE
I tried dropping in this morning on a medium sized ramp without ever watching any tutorials or knowledge on how to do it and I ended up falling backwards off my board and slammed my entire left side of my body on the concrete and smashed my head with no helmet and now my entire body is covered with bruises I REPEAT DONT MAKE A MISTAKE LIKE I DID
Is the mistake the not shifting the weight properly or the helmet part? Lol.
@@veeanon2238 same thing happened to me
This video itself gives me that feeling in my stomach
1. Foot placement (Don't put your back foot too far back, square on the board. Don't put your front foot on the tail and have it square on the board too.)
2. Practice
3. Shifting weight
4. Confidence (Don't hesitate)
5. Do it in all in one motion
These are my tips of helping you to drop in.
hestitation is the worst. Whenever I don't commit to the trick and the board I end up hurting myself the most.
I watched a LOT of drop in videos, and this is the one that actually clicked for me. The way he shows his body moving into the ramp while still keeping his board static, then shifting the board down to match his body thats already in the ramp, is what did it for me. PERFECT angle and video to teach dropping in. Thank you for this video, this is absolutely the best one on youtube.
I tried dropping in and slipped and smashed my hip :)

I fell on my shoulder and it popped and I couldn’t feel it for the next two days :)

Too many skate tutorial focus on being cool, look cool and are basically fake it till you make it, but I didn't skate because of other people rather than just for my fun
I’m scared just to go down a 1 degree angle ramp
Yeah.. I know. I am too. Also I'm embarrassed someone will see me fall of a 1 foot curb..
Fevered Visions lmao that happened to me like four days ago i went off a curb and ate shit in front of like 5 people

Today I dropped in for the first time , yesterday I waited with my tail on the coping for 5 minutes I was thinking about to much , today I just committed and I didn’t think about , I did a perfect drop in , just send it
I was too scared to go out be of quarantine and it’s been my dream to skateboard and watching these I have become a good enough skateboarder thank you so much for theses amazing videos and now all my friends are jealous hehe

This guy is one of the most chillest and realest guys I’ve ever watched. Much love to you bro 🔥.
I love how he says in order to not die 😂💀
I skated when I was younger but now I’m 36 and I just got a new skateboard from the shop. I’m good at skateboarding on flat surface shredding and Ollies and stuff. But I went to the park to try those ramps and I actually got too nervous to try but I’m gonna give it another go after watching this... thanks !
WHY IS VLSKATE SO MUCH MORE HELPFUL?!??!?!?!!?!?!?
Got a ramp for Christmas and I couldn’t get the courage to do it, so I looked up a video on how to do it and now I can do it consistently
“YEAH IMMA DO THIS YEAAAAAAA”
**gets up there**
“See now”😰
I don’t think he said that you need to press down pretty hard while Dropping In. Or just don’t go down soft.
I love that u suggest a Hemet and saying that looking cool is no excuse for brain damage its so true and kids need to hear that and understand it thanks for the video keep up the good work
When I was younger, I did them like they were nothing. 30 years later, in my early 50's I am a little more scared now and am just doing them on smaller, less vert stuff. I know once I get over this mental block, more skating fun and opportunities will open up for me.
Went to my local park for the first time in 3 years the other day, barely knowing how to skate and the kids there taught me how to drop in. So thankful how friendly they were or I would have been clueless..
Dropping in is the one thing is skating that terrifies everyone
You know it’s also about confidence and commitment to doing it
Weight on your front foot until your back on flat !! ✌🤓🤘 #goodluck
Exactly what I needed. Thanks man!

I'm 38, learned to Drop In today at my adult skate lessons! John Cattle & Wight Trash! WightTrashFilms. Never too old.
today at the skatepark i attempted my drop in. i was terrfied i did not know what was up with me. i didnt suceed but i am determined to go at it again.
I'm 11 and im waiting for my board so I've been watching your beginner videos and I've skated before but these videos are really informative
The good news about dropping in is that once you land it, you can take it anywhere.
WHY DO NOT MY PARENTS WANNA TAKE ME TO A SKATE PARK :(
dropped in yesterday, broke my arm because i fell back. how fun!
This helped alot since the first time i tried i messed up my foor and i couldn't walk for a week
Thanks for the great video man! 23 and just started boarding after a long BMX life, skating is so intense!
I'm 6ft 4 and I havent dropped in since I was 5tf nothing. Standing on the edge about to drop in feels like certain death. Now to build my confidence back up. Skating is so mind over matter it's amazing how not scared you can be once you get out of your head
this is helping me a lot thank you for all the information

Just ate shit super hard twice trying to do this earlier today. Hopefully I’ll get it next time with this advice
Thanks for making this video!! This has helped me a lot on how to get my first drop-in!
I’m going to drop in today I’m so exited
How’d that go?
i do a lot of hill bombing and street skating because i have some good hills near me but the nearest skate park is a drive away and i cant drive. so i think i’ll have no problem actually going downhill it’s just actually managing to drop i correctly. this week will be the first time im going to a skate park so wish me luck.
tried my first drop yesterday and i bust my ass, couldn’t feel my right arm. going to the hospital now just to make sure my arm is okay.
cant wait to go back and try it again :D
Hey. Your videos are really helpful, they help me a lot with my skateboarding. I got my own ramp at home that I practice on, and this vid helped me a lot. I can now almost drop in by myself now. Thx
that's awesome! I wish I had some ramps at my house!
Best tutorial on dropping in!
I just sprained my ankle
5 months late but me too
Everyone does it it’s not painful I done it like 5 times
I did it going down a ramp for the first time today xd
Yikes...
I didn’t drop in yesterday but, I did go down a ramp! For the first time :D
Edit: a big one at that
Someone took my 🅱️iscuits I did this too :D except I broke my right arm lmao
I fell earlier today so now just seeing the ramp on your video scares me.
I think my back loved talking to the concrete for 10 minutes
im trusting you with my life
I broke my arm first time i tried to drop in! But thats a while back now :) good content

Hey, I have a question I'm already able to drop into a 7-foot quarter that's almost vert but I skate with my tail in front is that bad?
Wait wait wait Ive been to that skate park in san marcos omfg. I used to go to that school right by the skatepark. I'm in shock!!!! We should skate some time I would really like that
that's the one! it's my new local park :) i'm going to start going there more often
VLSkate so im guessing you live in that area? But I don't live there I used to but my grandma does, when I dont work and I'll visit my grandma and go to the skate park. Hopefully I can't meet you cuz you have helped me with some of my skating. It would be an honor to meet you real life. Do you mind following my on instagram or Twitter?
I'm not on Twitter but what's your insta?

my biggest tip, if your a beginner wear at least knee pads and just lean too far forward and if you fall forward slid to your knees, it’s better then your back

That's what they tell you when you snowboard too
All the comments are about breaking arms and slicing shoulders open now I'm wayyy to scared to do it 😂 🤕
i’m late but i “tried” to drop in today... i stood at the top of the drop in for a good thirty minutes shaking while people were counting down and trying to do it with me.. long story short, i’m just going to try again tomorrow
@ VLSkate this is the best dropping in tutorial I have ever seen. Even better than the ones done by professional name skaters. You explain everything in super detail with just the right amount of slow mo and how to and not to. Also the angles you capture are necessary and extremely helpful for a scared beginner because it gives them a realistic angle to go off of. Thanks a million for posting.
My skatepark us tiny and it's a big bowl that I don't really want to practice in because there are always so many people because it's right in the centre of my town. I'm trying to find a better park rn so I can practice
Thank you so much, i just got to get used to the force of me hitting flat after transition, already tried 3 times and ate crap, i only wear beanies for safety, but im all good, i landed on my butt more then anything
