  • Learn to knit mock cables. Step by step tutorial. Fake cables are quick and easy to knit because you don't need an extra cable needle, you just slip some stitches over. Can be used for any knitting project, also as ribbing.

    My friend's mother taught me how to knit when I was 11 years old, but I have not done much knitting. This stitch is enchanting. Just discovered your channel. You knit the way I do, so it is easier to follow your instructions.

    Thank you for your video! And you actually helped me improve my Continental Purl stitch. I had to slow your video to really see your technique, but it is wonderful! I have knitted for years and to accomplish the purl I used my left pointer finger to shift the yarn, but discovered my tension was bad. I searched every idea for improvement on UA-cam, and quite by accident while refreshing my memory of the mock cable, there it was! You use your right finger to anchor the yarn thus smoothly purling. Thank you! Thank you! I would suggest that you do a video on “How I do the Continental Purl” ! Those basic skills that eventually improve speed and good tension are what a lot of us really need. Hope you enjoy my comments!

      Thank you very much for your comment! I'm happy to hear the video helped in knitting the purl stitch. Making a slow video about the continental purl is a great idea! I like to make it the way I do on the video because that's how I learned it when I was a child. Many people also knit it in such a way that they don't lift the yarn to the front as I do. I would probably need to demonstrate both!

    Hello, thank you for your tutorial! How many stitches do will I need for a baby blanket?

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  8 місяців тому

      That would depend on your yarn and how large a bably blanket you want. I would make a swatch about 20 cm wide and then set that on a tape measure to calculate how many stitches.

      I don't know what Russian purl is. In this I just knitted the way I alwys do, never in the back loop. This video shows more how I knit. ua-cam.com/video/1pmBYWAIqJA/v-deo.html

    When measuring gauge in mock cable, do I stretch the pattern

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  Рік тому

      Yes, I would stretch it a little, how it would be stretched when in use.

    • @sandracohen8481
      @sandracohen8481 Рік тому

      My finished measurement is 24 by. The pattern says to cast on 102 stitches using number 8 needles but I did not get my 24 in wide
      The yarn itself cause for a size 9 needle

    • @sandracohen8481
      @sandracohen8481 Рік тому

      So if you do the math you should be getting four and a half stitches per inch and I am getting a little over 5

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  Рік тому

      @@sandracohen8481 Try using needles that are one size smaller, that often helps.

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  2 місяці тому

      The link in the description of that video is the general guide for calculating stitches, not for this project in particular. You can start with any number of stitches because the cable takes 3 stitches and then you can decide how many cables and how many stitches in between.

    Have used this tutorial but I have big holes by the side of the cables? Why?

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  2 місяці тому

      That can be caused by many things but one could be that your needled are too large for your yarn, then you easily get stretchy stitches.

    • @MyNov09
      @MyNov09 2 місяці тому +1

      @TuulaMaaria thank you....I realised I was wrapping the yarn around the needle on the first purl stitch. I did it on the second one instead and that worked!
