(4K) Avro Vulcan High Power Taxi - AMAZING HOWL SOUND

- Avro Vulcan XL426 performing a high power taxi run at London Southend Airport, marking its 60th anniversary. Vulcan Restoration Trust maintain XL426 in a taxi condition at Southend, with no Vulcans left flightworthy in the world anymore - however, the occasional high power taxi never disappoints.
Vulcan has four Olympus engines which generate a truly amazing howl at high power, due to the shape of the engine's intakes. In my opinion, it's one of the most jaw-dropping sounds in aviation.

The spool up rocks but, my God, when she’s airborne and roars by, that magnificent howl proclaims to all and sundry, “I am HERE, and I will NOT be trifled with!” What a magnificent beauty.
In the early 40s, four roaring Merlins on a Lancaster would be the equivalent for the time.
Quite extraordinary when you think both bombers came from the Avro company.
@@andrewlaw and within just a few (sub-10 but I can't remember exactly) years of each other!
Such an awesome sound. Sounds like a mystical beast awaking from a deep sleep!
Good to see that something has been done to get the old Girl back in shape. As she used to be a sad sight on the edge of the Runway. If I remember rightly she was the Original Display Vulcan before 558 took over from her. The nicest Plane ever to have taken to the sky.
The howl is so iconic it gives me guise bumps when ever I hear it
Turn up your speakers, this video does exactly what it says on the tin.
Get the vulcan up in the sky again back in service it got a mission to do in the east.A true british show of force in the sky.Greetings from far north nato flank. The cold war is back
As much as I would love to see this happen myself and watch the Vulcan live on TV drop one right on Putin's Fucking head?... it would remain unfortunate that in this day and age the Vulcan wouldn't stand a chance now and would be blown out the sky by the modern day tech and armory that Russia and other countries have...
But if the Vulcan could fly at the speed and altitude as the SR-71 Blackbird could have and still drop a bomb with pin point accuracy at that speed and height?... just maybe the Vulcan would stand a chance... but who knows? 😎👍
Sounds like a demon. Glad they are the good guys.
"Headphone warning"
me already at max volume: *sh*t*
Absolutely gorgeous aircraft.
Absolute bliss that howl!
Please Forgive my language here but... It breaks my Fucking heart that the Vulcan's are no longer flying 😢😭 The Vulcan will always be my favourite Bomber of all time just for her unique shape and that beautiful Roar and Howl... I just wish they would bring up the money and the team to just take Roy Chadwick's & Stuart Davies's original design schematics and just make new parts for the engines and stuff so the Vulcans can fly once again... to me it would be a dream come true and I would actually get that lump in my throat and then have tears slowly running down my cheeks as she slowly flew over my head and then began to climb as the pilot then flawed it making that distinct roar and howl of the four Olympus Rolls Royce Engines... damn I just choked up just thinking about it just now as I am typing this out. 😢😭
It's the airframe that's the issue, the knowhow on maintaining the plane has been largely lost. It's just too prohibitively expensive to get her though the civil air authority airworthyness criteria.
They need to get this beautiful aircraft back in the sky! Saw XH558 on 1 of it's last shows at the Sunderland air show many years ago, will never forget that howl.
Indeed, according to Wikipedia xl426 has 6236 flying hours which is 1218 hours less than 558 so I’m pretty sure that would mean airframe would have less fatigue and jus be in better shape. (correct me if I am wrong). We should all unanimously e-mail the 426 trust and ask them to perhaps think about idea the of lunching a crowd funding project.
If I ever win the Mega Millions, I'll see if i can help get it flying again.
Excellent idea. In the meantime I think perhaps we should all unanimously e-mail the 426 trust and ask them to think about the idea on lunching a crowd funding project to make her airworthy again.
I noticed that you said it never fails to disappoint, but it didn't disappoint me!
Haha thank you for spotting that, slight Freudian slip! Corrected ;)
MY FAVORITE PLANE OF ALL TIME !! A GREAT AIRCRAFT NO DOUBT!!
That plane is Vulcan loud!
That HOWL!!!
_📢💨🎶🎶_ LOL!😂 It's got a _wookie howl!_ 👹 🤣
You beauty! 👍
I must admit to being a bit of a fan of both the Vulcan and also the computer game "Satisfactory", in which a sort of giant alien flying Manta Ray flies circuits around various areas. It looks a bit like a Vulcan, and when it passes overhead, it emits a sound very similar to the Vulcan "Howl". 😄
Miss hearing that howl!! I live not far from XM655 which has the more powerful 301 Olympus engine, seen her run up her engines a few months ago.
Hope to visit Southend one day & see XL426
ah yes the battle cry of the Avro Vulcan bomber
Why can't we build a new and improved vulcan.. ?
Kinda makes me feel like 4 massive afterburning turbojets should be mandatory equipment on jet aircraft. Thanks for the video my friend, good stuff indeed! 👍 👍
the Vulcan wasn't fitted with afterburning engines
It totally rocks your soul!
1:27 gangster
POKOU 😏
I can totally see Batman flying one of these : It would be painted black and that howl would bring terror in the hearts of all the criminals in Gotham City...
