All the truly great rock bands /vocalist do them both (Elvis lead the way) that multidimensional sensitivity is why those folks get so close to our very souls when they perform...they are almost making lov to us all

For some years I worked in Brussels (I was seconded - long story. I wont bore you) and I travelled daily from my apartment in Tomberg to RP Schumann on the metro. One night after a typically non productive day in the EU HQ, I waited for my train home. On the Brussels metro stations they play music continuously. This song came on and all my cares were lifted. It was so comforting. Chrissy Hynde at her best. My train came and went. I sat totally absorbed by this fine music. Great music can even overcome the frustrations of working for the European Union.

The only version of "I Go To Sleep" by the Kinks is from 1965. It is a producer's demo only with Ray Davies on piano, and it was intended to be offered as a sample to other artists, so that they could cover it. Peggy Lee, Sonny And Cherr and the Applejacks are some of the artists who recorded and released it professionally.
In 1967, the German singer Marion Maerz recorded her version, with an imprint so close to the one that the Pretenders would later publish, that it could be assumed that it was based on this that Hynde and his band took inspiration.

I recently learned that Chrissy Hynde's was born in Akron, Ohio, and was attending Kent State University when students were shot dead by national guardsmen in 1970. I had just returned from Vietnam and was in a hospital bed at Fort Devens, Ma. when we wounded vets saw the news on t.v. A day I'll never forget. Shameful.
