It doesn’t get the notoriety that other more high profile deaths get, but James Honeyman Scott’s death was among the greatest tragedies to hit rock and roll. He is in a unique category along with guitarists like Randy Rhoads and Steve Gaines, of entirely gifted and talented young guitarists who were also very interesting and unique personalities that would have no doubt given us music that would be humming through our heads today on the regular. Iconic stuff. But they died entirely too soon. And so instead we are sadly, but gratefully, left with a small sample of their formative genius, and a big gaping hole that asks “what if?”, along with the near-certainty that it would have been incredible.
