I think it's the robotic voice...I can't explain it either.
My view is that synthwave songs in of itself gives an already electronic vibe and take you to the world of digital. The only thing tying you to reality is the vocals, the only human component in the song.
But now with miku, that last piece of humanity has finally succumbed to a pure digital life, replaced by an emotionless machine trying to mimic emotion. Sorta like a cyborg, holding on to the last thing that kept them human, their heart.

I never really knew much about Miku since she has ended up only existing to me as faint memories from my older sisters interest in such things as older animes and characters such as Miku, though she never really had any kind of impact to me, Miku's descent into quasi-obscurity really makes time feel like its flying at mach 5 speeds

Dunno if it's just me, but the fact that Miku covers such songs adds a unique, melancholic flavor to it. Like a AI that tries it's best to become a human being

I was 6 when I got into Vocaloid, born in 2002. Weird seeing how hard the fandom fell off in general and how its reputation as a cringefest increased tenfold as a result, but that it's also as active as ever.
Those that joined in because it was popular have all but gone. Those that actually enjoy it still remain. It's the same with any trend. Or something that becomes insanely popular for seemingly no reason. Or without warning

I've been a fan ever since I was 13. I have over thousands of songs, it sounds pretty fuckin insane to outsiders lol. I've seen the rise and fall of Vocaloid fandom and it's rise again in the recent years. While I'm glad, I'm also a bit sad. Everything that becomes a trend, loses it's uniqueness. In the era of Tiktok, the cringe content are mostly from there, they turn everything into a cringefest or a trend. That's why I don't use that app.
I've never had the perception that people thought it was any more cringe then anime in general is. I'm also not a vocaloid fan though, just like a couple of the songs.
It’s so weird to me, it’s like it’s active but it also feels dead. I missed the peak but I was there when it was relatively active. I just miss it, I’m glad there are still people around though.

It always amazes me, how Miku started as a very lively green haired girl... and the time she is getting popular and popular, a lot of artists use her in a different tone, until at the present... she is much more popular in a darker tone, as if she was grown so hard, sometimes forgotten, sometimes remembered and she hardened.. as if this program was a real entity evolving together us humans.. well at least that's how I see Miku's growth since 2007

I love how the phaser and the chorus hits the vocals in the phrases "I will let you know", "Im so glad to know" and many others, it sounds really human

Amazing Rendition! I've always really wondered what this type of music is called, really on the types of emotions it evokes. One way is to call it synthwave, but synthwave can also be upbeat. So I guess slow synth would be a way to define it. One thing in common is that there's this sense of calm existential dread, if that even exists. A feeling of aloneness yet peace in a vast mysterious world. Does anyone know if there's an actual name for this style of music?
That's pretty much darkwave, a subgenre of goth music

If you want you could go down the path creating more sub sub sub generas and go for something like dreadwave X dreamsynth 😅

This may sound weird, but no matter what version of this song comes on I break down and cry hard because my mama passed away right when I was listening to it as I heard her hand is that weird?
