What's going on with the side-facing carburettor and the huge distributor?
No room for most carburetors in the frame except the garbage Amal they came with. Probably couldn't find or afford parts for the original distributor?
It's a magneto ignition system, like the joe hunt type.
It allows you to run without a battery and is normally considered total gnarly in bobber and chopper builder culture, due to the simple nearly trouble-free system. The Carb is a Amal, a concentric mk I. but can't see if its a 900 series or a 600 series. It was normally born with a smaller monoblock Amal, but most racing bikes were upgraded to the 28 mm or 30 mm 900 series concentric carbs by the owners. The only reason that it's facing sideways is due to the custom-made manifold.
