Freaking awesome still.
We had tickets for this summer but it got canceled. This was great.
Old doesn’t necessarily mean tired and worn out!
Sir you gave me chills
Only the best vocalists can sing naked like this, meaning no effects, autotune. He just sang to us. Loved it.
Exactly. Think Bieber could pull this off?
@@BrianKushner LOL! I couldn't care less.
You got that right!!! 99% of today's singers can't do this! Seen him 3 yrs ago at a smaller venue...still amazing after all these years! Thank you for posting this.
Totally! There’s some age to his voice, of course, but it sounds amazing for his age. And I’m pretty sure it’s I the original key....anyone?
I get the chills whenever I hear Styx. Takes me back to the 5th grade, growing up in the Chicago ‘burbs. That’s what we were listening to at the beach, the arcade, hanging with friends. That music meant so much to me, and it connects so many people to a certain time & place.
Saw Dennis about four years ago and he’s still got it
@@billymac72 Yes, original key.
I am here in 2024… the man is truly an amazing treasure! Wow
I remember seeing this, sitting at home watching UA-cam all week when we were shut down at work and the lyrics were fitting. It's probably my favorite Styx song.
This gentleman is 73 years young and singing this song in its original key, what a gift. Thanks Dennis!
I know right? I wish Geddy Lee was able to keep his voice a little longer!
@@saturn722 Yeah, but Geddy was pushing it even when he was younger with regard to range and volume.
@@TucsonDude He had to change with the times starting with Moving Pictures and began to sing in a comfortable range for his voice. That's when we got their really good stuff and it probably saved his voice for the next generation of albums.
Imagine living next door to Dennis DeYoung and being able to hear piano through the window. Wow
Yaaa
Wow. An old guy opens his mouth and a young man steps out.
Excellent comment!
What a lovely comment.
His voice is amazing...
If you take care of yourself and your voice, this is the result!
I was a young Marine when this came out. Reminds me of when I was a young man of 18
Voices like Dennis DeYoung, Steve Perry, Freddie Mercury, etc. will always be around my mind! They are the voices of my youth and my life.
The greatest ever.
So etched in our minds. They ARE a part of our lives for sure.
Steven Denton no Canadian singers in that group of singers you mentioned lol
@Steven Denton ... I agree with you 💯 % !! ... all of these are definitely the voices of my youth & life too 💜 ... and imo, at the very top of the list is Steve Perry !! ... he is "The Voice" after all, as Jon Bon Jovi named him so many years ago ......
💜💜💜🎶🎤🎶💜💜💜
@Mirror Man ... Steve Perry,
The Voice, is at the very top of my list 💜 !! ... I also like both Dennis DeYoung & Freddie Mercury (I do like Freddie's voice, that's just me) ... imo all three of these men can really sing, but Steve is my absolute fav !!
💜💜💜💜🎶🎤🎶💜💜💜💜
73 years old - how many signers would dare to try this - STILL as great as he was from the beginning
I admire and respect the way he puts himself out there. We salute you, Dennis.
So crazy, was just listening to this last night, still kikin ass and not taking names!
No bass no synthesizers no band nothing just him fantastic job in his living room just him and his talent
AND how many would dare even attempt to sing their songs in the original key? He has quite a few high notes in his songs and the keys he sings in are typically pretty high. A TRUE professional!
Well said- 100% spot on!
Dennis isn’t “formerly” of Styx. He is Styx.
Agree!
Yeah, a legendary legit styx..
yes
The Founder of
Uno de los grandes 👍👍
This man still has the pipes. Sounds like 1981. The incomparable Dennis DeYoung. No auto tune kids. Talent!
And he's 73 years old. Amazing
2ND best rock singer behind STEVE PERRY
amazing he can still sing like that
Kids should take DAMN GOOD NOTES
No auto tune EXACTLY!
Imagine having this superhuman voice at 73.
MIKAL well DDY said he never abused any type of drugs which hindered his voice. Think about it clean living helped him big time. Props to DDY.
For real though. First thought was "goddamn. This dude still have pipes at his old age."
Sounds amazing, right?
dan w I would imagine most important not smoking too lol, take care of yourself and your body and you can look and feel great even in your 80s,, Dennis still rocks!!
Uhh.. yeah. Blown away. So beautiful.
73 years old and he's still got his chops, this guy is so super talented it's scary
I was completely blown away, I don't think he's lost any of his amazing voice!
Someone on here is jealous as hell. (Any man who had hair as thick as he had probably doesn’t need a hairpiece in later life at all. I’m guessing that’s his real hair, which he should be grateful to have. If it isn’t, so what?) He has a beautiful voice that most people will never have.
@@ravenel2 that's 100% his real hair
@hhhk20Some poor little man with no life. Jealous of the one that does have one! LOL- you've embarrassed yourself in front of close to a million of his fans!

Mr .DeYoung if you read this message We fans and America love you.. Thank You for all the treasures that got us all through life. .styx will never be styx without you and without you there is no styx we all know that !! God Bless You and God Bless America

The funniest part of this whole thing, he talks like an Italian mobster, but when he sings it's like an angel
carmine ruocco thats that Chicago accent
Yep.. He is from Chicago...
Awesome voice.... And he is 73!!
Sounds great....👍😊😊
No offense but he reminded me of Woody Allen with hand gestures a little.. 😳😳😳
I was thinking the SAME THING when he started talking, then started singing! It shocked me - in a good way.
@@Dirkdersoldat as an Italian from New York, I know, Ive seen Styx 7 time's, but will never ever go see them without Dennis

God bless you Dennis beautiful thank you forget opening up your home to us good man good man
He’s just as talented now as in 1981. Those WERE the best of times.
I saw STYX in ‘81 on The Paradise tour while I was stationed in Germany.Walked in just when they Started the concert with ‘Come in in and see what’s happening....
Perhaps the best of 1981, but the Ultimate Best Ever of Times was 10 years earlier.. :) This man really sings/sang, beautifully! A real musician ! Awesome breathing, voice, and vibrato ! Love it ! Thank you, Dennis DeYoung !!!!
I was born in '81!!
They don't make music like this anymore ❤❤❤
You're right today no bands make music like this anymore . This is a classic song from a great band and great singer .
VJ this music represents a time in a lot of people’s life’s were it was just fantastic, the talent level was off the charts and most likely we will not see again in my lifetime at 61 years old, kind os sad about sometimes but then I break out my saved music and everything gets better.
NOPE
@@joevaldez8107 Unfortunately you are so right only thank God we still have him singing to us now. Forever grateful.
Its sad we will never experience real musicianship in music in this day in age.
It's like he never left. He just gives it his all.
No words, just chills....He's a legend
"People lock their doors, and hide inside, rumour has it, it's the end of paradise" -- How prophetic!
Wow..!
It's exactly what I thought while listening ...
And it's The Best of Times.
Rockin the Paradise....... truly timeless and should be the fight song of America right flipping NOW
This was written in the unlikely event of Joe Biden and his socialist pals get elected...
Tim Brink I’m fairly shard that Joey b, is a card carrying member of the moral majority for musical morality 🤮
He's in 70s but still sings better than a lot of pretenders nowadays
Dennis Deyoung will ALWAYS and FOREVER be the "Voice of Styx"
PERIOD.
Agreed. I saw them in the 70's during 'The Grand Illusion' Tour. They were great.
Until he tried turning it from a rock band into a broadway show. He lost me there.
i would like to see Tommy and Dennis do fooling yourself together right now
Considering he's the only voice of STYX...you may be correct! You have a unique propensity to state the obvious!
I was heartbroken when he left and I refuse to see them now. It's a shame.
Damn, you were so good when you were young, now at an older age you still is, you haven't lost it...I am so glad to have live & listen to you in the 1970s as a late teen & my 20s yrs, I listen to you from 1972~1990s, & now in the 2023 via UA-cam... In all fairness he hasn't worked since he left Styx
@@MrWillisReeves In all fairness you are incorrect.

RKDriver wow well said
Besides the fact that he wrote or co-wrote ALL of Styx’s songs!!!
hands down!
Dennis Deyoung
Lou Gram(Foreigner])

Yes may God bless you Dennis.
Styx was one of the greatest bands in the 80's. Dennis DeYoung was the voice of Styx. I cant believe he still sounds the same to this day, Amazing!!!
Indeed AMAZING THIS GUY. Mr. De Young you do not stop to amaze. Thank you for the magic. Guy-Louis
Puts on an awesome show too.
Don't you mean 70s and 80s
from Mid to Late 1970's and Early 80's.
The voice, yes,, the founder, the writer of its hits, and the originator not the wannabe.
Just watching this in 2024... Beautiful
I'm sick of entertainers thinking they are relevant, however this guy is far and above 98% of them. What an awesome guy. .
it's unfortunate that entertainment (movies, shows, music) is not much more than a money machine now. Someone with a bankroll develops a plan, figures out what they want, then find people and force them into that mold. everything is so fake
You got that right..a humble man..love his voice

Back the memories of 1981, 4th year high school BEST OF TIMES THANK YOU MR DEYOUNG.
I graduated from high school in 1979. In my teens I grew up listening to great music that has stayed with me all my life. Styx, with Dennis DeYoung on vocals, was and remains one of my all time favorites. But it was 1979, prom night I will always remember. That night I drove a gorgeous Camaro Z-28 to the prom with my date. The T-tops were off, the weather was perfect that night in Providence, Rhode Island and Paradise Theater was playing on the stereo. My date and I were singing along and didn't have a care in the world at that moment. Peaceful, life was perfect for a moment, and that moment is forever etched in my mind, thanks to Dennis DeYoung and one of the greatest American rock bands/vocalists ever!
Rhode Island has the best seafood
I appreciate your fond memory, sounds wonderful. However, either that was prophetic or you’ve got your dates/years wrong. Paradise Theater was a 1981 product. In 1979, which was my grad year as well, Pieces of Eight was still churning out hits from it’s street date in 1978. The spring of ‘79 was when Renegade was at it’s peak. Like I said, you share a sweet memory with us but something in the sands of time might have distilled memories together for you in some way.
He sings as he were in the 80's. What a singer and pianist¡
No, he's only in his 70s.
Michael O He means 1980s
I'm so glad O had Styx to listen to in high school. Come sail away and the rest!
Dennis DeYoung hasn't lost a bit over the years.
He's been touring with his own band for over 10 years. Look him up this summer!
Excellent , with no studio, his voice and feelings make it real. Long live Styx.
Styx has never been the same. Without him
There is no Styx without Dennis DeYoung and there never can or will be.
I agree. He is an amazing artist. Those 194 thumbs down are a holes who probably pray to the a hole Donald Trump.
Agreed.
Time hasn't laid a glove on this mans vocal cords. Holy cow he can still sing.
Amen! Spectacular!
Dennis DeYoung always was the heart and soul of STYX
Classic and irreplaceable like a diamond 💖
Everytime I see his videos, I think of what a crime it is he isn't out there with STYX - Touring and writing more timeless classics

Superb version by Dennis. It's a travesty that he's not part of the current version of Styx. ... The best era for Rock & Roll, and popular music in general, was the 70's. Followed by the 60's.

Wow, a real singer. Almost forgot what they sounded like. The man is still sounding like my album from 82. Incredible. When I hear modern tunes I'm proud that Styx is from my generation. Great singers and talented musicians who, unlike most bands today, created a variety of songs from straight up rock to ballads. And they didn't attempt to mimic what they heard on the radio in order to guarantee airplay. They created from the heart and laid it out there, and the fans responded.

Had the privilege of sharing the stage with Mr. DeYoung about 10 years ago. He sold every single tune to the absolute back of the concert hall. Even the folks who sat in 'the nosebleed seats' had the time of their lives. It was inspiring to watch- it really was. This is exactly what I would expect from him, and he did not disappoint. And just like that I'm a kid again, playing Paradise Theater on my Soundesign stereo. When this song came out in 1981 we were also in a difficult time. It brought just as much hope and inspiration then as it does now. Thanks Dennis for all the music and memories ❤️
I'm still a kid... playing the reel to reel tape of this awesome album. Time to fire up the TEAC and thread a reel...
Sorry to hear you were having difficult times in 81 dude! Too bad cuz it sure was a great time in America. Old Ronnie was giving the military a 40% pay raise and the embarrassment caused by Carter was just a bad memory. Economy was starting to rock. A lot of technical innovation. The space shuttle was new and very special. 80s were Definitely a positive era.
@@JeromyBranch all of that did happen, but not in January of 1981 when Paradise Theater and this song debuted. If you check your history, Ronald Reagan took office in January of 1981. The problems caused by Carter were still ongoing. The Iran hostage crisis ended the day Reagan took office but the economy was still in the tank with what was considered at the time high interest rates, inflation, gasoline shortages, high unemployment and a bad stock market. The things that Reagan did would not start to turn things around until later in 1982. This is why Dennis DeYoung sings in the song, "I know you feel these are the worst of times", which was appropriate for the very start of the '80s.
I have to say, reading the brand Soundesign gave me a serious (like Dr. Johnny Fever serious) flashback. I and my friends were quite fond of hallucinagenics in the late '70s and early '80s. That name triggered some weird stuff. lol Thanks!
It was a beautiful laser etched (?) piece of vinyl too.
Thank you Dennis. WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU!
How the hell does he keep his voice? Incredible at that age.
He's 73 and sounds AMAZING
Not only that his chops are still fantastic . Arthritis can be a b*tch as we age . So glad he posted, brings back so many memories.
In 2020, Dennis DeYoung has still got it. You made me smile today. Thank you.
Patrowicz I'm smiling right along with you (2 days late) 😊
"People lock their doors, and hide inside..."
Such a relevant statement for our world today. Thank you for encouraging all of us by bringing back a memory of this song that many of us have from our younger years.
tdalej ...rumor has it, it’s the end of paradise....
tdalej Thanking God for singers and video conferencing/ performing from their living rooms and reminding us of good times.
Mr. DeYoung has always been a great influence on both rock and ballards in all of our lives. He is the heart and soul of Styx and will always be. He has a voice like no other and always comes across as a true gentleman and avid family man.
I never did get to see him live but you never know what the future will bring.
"Keep it in mind Dennis"
Whenever I hear the originals it brings me back to my younger days.
His new song definately shows how much he loves music, family and the good old days. Keep it up Dennis, we all love all your doing and by bringing more happiness into the world during these trying times with your music and videos. " You are the best"
