LOVED how in-depth this review is!!! I don’t shoot on a Nikon but this footage has me DROOLING all over my phone screen. Masterfully captured and can’t take my eyes away 😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks a million Shu ☺️it’s a dream lens, I was privileged enough to play with it for two weeks so wanted to make it as thorough as I could but now I’m missing it already.
Great review, good work. The video and images coming from it are amazing!
Thanks a lot, indeed it’s a dream lens to have, the footage it creates is incomparable to any other lens
Stunning shots in here Michael, the fog on the Richmond park lake looked fantastic, great review and great job!
Thanks a lot Jake☺️glad the effort I put into this Irishman of lens reviews was worth it 😀Yeah the Milky Way in Richmond Park wasn’t so at least we were rewarded for our patience with the fog in the morning
Can't decide what is more awesome, the review or lens itself. Great job!!!
Thanks a lot, lens is amazing that’s for sure, the review is something I’ve put a lot of work into so glad is being appreciated ☺️🙏🏻
@@LondonViewpoints Well to be honest you are one of the youtubers that helped me decide buy Z6. Remember watching your timelapse video featuring Z6.
Holy wow.. this looked truly incredible
This lens is out of this world, quality and price wise😉
Really cool in depth review on this lens!!!
Thanks a lot Dom 👍🏻
Really great video with amazing cinematic scenes, thank you.
Thank you, glad you like it. The cinematic potential this lens has is out of this world
Fantastic channel, great review :)
Thanks a lot ☺️
Great review; very thorough.
Thanks a lot, glad you think so😀
It is a beast of a lens indeed 😱 Nice one Michael!
Thanks a lot Frank, it's one of the lenses i don't think i'll ever have again, hence this detailed review with all kinds of footage making the most of my two weeks with it
Those night shots came out great! Awesome review mate, great hanging out as always :) not convinced anyone should buy this lens though :P
Thanks mate, always great to hang out with you 👍🏻 Yeha it’s a specialist lens, one that hopefully leads the way to smaller, faster and cheaper lenses in the future 😀
It's your boy! :D
Thanks for the features mate. I added your video to a playlist in my channel home ;) Let's do it again!
You’re welcome Fabien, the boi will be an intro of hopefully a new video soon😉Let’s catch up and go shoot again
Hats off! This was an unbelievable deep review of this superb lens. Since it was unveiled, I was having lot of questions and lot of imaginations about the performance and mainly an applicability, which remained unanswered, because there is so little practical information out there. All of this is now pretty clear for me. After seeing this I can finally see the potential nad meaning of existence of this lens. I really think Nikon should do something like this to promote the lens at the beginning. Darker side of this is, that I want it! :-D OK, once more a biggest compliment for this review!
Radek Průša thanks a lot Radek☺️appreciate your feedback here and on Reddit 🙏🏻
Sorta skipped my way through the video, but really appreciate that narrow depth of field, and your film making skills shine here. Think you've inspired me to start embracing my 85 1.2 wide open at night, something I've never done! Thanks for that, and thanks for the review of this beast of a lens too.
Damn this video is long but I enjoyed every single minute of it !!! Great video Michael ,that lens is Amazing!!!
Thanks, yes it did end up being a long video but for this lens it was worth it 👍🏻😀
Good thorough review Mike
Thanks a lot☺️glad you found it thorough
Nikon Rumors brought me here.
Also subbed. :)
Thanks, what and where was it shared if I may ask, as I did send it to them but didn’t notice it being shared yet?
@@LondonViewpoints Here ya go: nikonrumors.com/2020/07/26/weekly-nikon-news-flash-583.aspx/
this deserves 100x more views
Yeah, those images pop. Amazing.
Thanks, it’s was a pleasure to shoot with this lens and see these results 😀
Great video! Looks like you are in greenscreen :D. Awesome takes, it was fun to watch! I am enjoying my first, and new Sigma 56mm on my ZV-E10(Aps-C). :)
Thanks, yes it’s a crazy lens, the wide open shallow dof does indeed look like green screen
Wow looks surreal
Thank you
Sometimes I see a video for exactly the question I asked 🙂 Thank you!
So chuffed to hear it
Love the longer video brother! and What a lens... but I wouldn't personally say it is going to be a lens I would look to get any time soon (even if it half the price to be honest. )
Thanks Carlton, yeah me too, but if a client had budget I’d hire it
@@LondonViewpoints Would be really nice! just seem to have an "odd" use case in some ways!
That's really amazing! I'm thinking to buy it as combo with the Z8, which with the extra improvement with video quality will be even slightly nicer
Glad to hear my review potentially helped you with that decision , I’m sure it’ll be a great combo 👍🏻
gran. descripción formidable. ahora deseo comprar uno
Thanks 👍🏻
Amazing review. Thank you! Best London spot to use this lens? your favourite?
Thanks, yeah that idk, somewhere safe😉 anywhere central with it is cool
seemingly the best lens brand in the world, nikon made this noct f/0.95 lens as a reference for the success of the z mount. but stop down aperture to f/0.95 it is very sharp there is no color fringing, distortion and it's insane, kudos for lens designer
I agree, it’s too good stopped down, never expected it to be this good, but than the price reflects it yet it’s adequate to the quality 👍🏻
This review is OUTSTANDING, I was glued to the screen the entire time and I don't even really care about camera lenses!! ha ha ;-)
Thanks a lot Charlie, haha yeah I like lenses either to experiment with them like in this video but prefer the ones I can use in real life and always carry with me, wait... I should review them 😂
Merci à vous-
To address the “filter compatibility” issues you described at 29:33, use the Kase Revolution Magnetic Filter System, which has thin 10 stop and 3 stop magnetic filters you can stack, with little to no vignetting
Sounds like a good solution if you can stack their magnetic filters, thanks 👍🏻
Very cool video. It looks like you're transplanted in every seen. I would love the lens but $8,000 really seems like a lot but I guess the 50 MM .95 Leica makes it feel reasonable.
Thanks a lot, yes it’s expensive but quality I think validates it, however rumors of 50/1.2 S do get more and more hot, so excited to see how much will that be
Great video. What tripod did use for your outdoor shooting? Can you give me a link?
Thanks , I use a variety of tripod, from carbon to heavy duty, all depends how windy it is or how portable I need it to be
People complaining about the price seem to forget, that there are a lot of lenses particularly cine lenses which are much more expensive. You have Cooke S7i and Arri Signature and Zeiss Supreme primes lenses at around £20k each. You have the Leica 50mm 0.95 at over 9k and the Leica NOCTILUX-M 75mm f/1.25 at 10K.
Some times lenses cost more for a variety of reasons, particularly when they are specialist lenses.
Absolutely agree, this lens is in the cine league , cannot be judged with photo lenses but with the Z6 it does actually make a fine companion 👍🏻
uff, that video footage is just 🔥🔥🔥
hey folks, it's your BOY london viewpoints! hahahah 🤣
Thanks Dirk ☺️🙏🏻yes that might be how I start a video soon , one video, that’s it😜
A long video but this lens deserved it.
Saw the whole 4K video on 480p before I noticed it 0.o
Yikes, 480? 😱yes I made it long and thorough as I believed also it deserves it, but I guess at 1080p at least it would look a tinnie bit better😉
Hey Michel, great video. If you do a slight tweak to your contents it will show up in the timeline. If you start with the number first so
:-)
Thanks Darren, glad you like it. Updated the description with your suggestion, hope that works now or just work, thanks again
@@LondonViewpoints Yup, that worked. I've edited my original comment, so it doesn't get confused :-) Looks like a total beat of a lens and love the Camera Conspiracies slow motion demo. haha
Darren thanks again, yeah it’s that kind of a lens I doubt I’ll ever own, maybe rent at best if a client has that kind of budget. Well, I was testing slow mo and was next to a road so a camera conspiracies treat was the obvious decision 😂
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Thanks ☺️
dide you use collorsaturation on high and sharpening on high if not the lens is impressive
When editing I add about +15 on sharpness and same for saturation , so that’s definitely not high, and yes the lens is super impressive
How can I get to that place at 9.50 seconds with loads of inverted u shaped bulbs in this video
Google Conduit Court 😉👍🏻
Wow this lens is 🔥👌🏼. Btw what was the location in the intro? Keep up the vids Michael!
@shafiphotography
Thanks Muhammad, it is insane that lens. Quite a few locations in the intro, tell me which second and i'll tell you the location
@@LondonViewpoints Sorry the one right at the beginning, where you walk in for the intro. Thanks
Muhammad Shafi oh that’s at Greenwich Park, right next to the General Wolfe statue
I believe that your wishes will be answered with the announcement of the 50mm f/1.2 S at the end of the month along with the new Z5 and other lenses!
It certainly seems so according to all the rumours, but the question is - what’s the price going to be, as I’ve just got myself the 50/1.8 S because after the NOCT I just wanted that focal length and price wise and quality wise it felt right, but if the 1.2 will be competitively priced...
They should have kept the aperture fully manual as well!
Where is this place at 9.52 mins with lots of inverted U shaped less lights.
How can I get there?
It’s near Covent Garden / Piccadilly 😉the rest is for you to find
@@LondonViewpoints thank you for your reply.
I will look for it
f/0.95 - and what T-stop does it give at that opening?
Don’t know, had no tools to measure it, but considering the price I would imagine, not far off f0.95
@@LondonViewpoints - you'd be surprised to find that an expensive f/1.2 from a competing brand only has a T-stop of 1.5 at f/1.2. That is lot of loss. It does not change the formula for depth of field that related DoF to aperture, distance and focal length (AND circle of confusion that is a somewhat subjective measure of resolution in lens and sensor, which means it is in fact different for each camera/lens combination: a sharp 1.8 on a hi-res sensor could have a shallower depth of field than a fuzzy 1.2 on a lower res sensor).
@@jpdj2715 interesting to know, so in short, yeah no idea what T stop it could have, but as mentioned I was blown away how sharp and artefact free it was even at 0.95 👍🏻
This video may have just cost me a car (not that I need it any more). I never thought that this lens would ever be on my list. But shallow DOF at 8m? You just can't get that look with any other lens.
Indeed there’s no other lens like this, for it to be so sharp and with next to no unwanted artefacts when wide open is a optical masterpiece that unfortunately costs a car😉
Great lens, Now Nikon just have to make a great camera to go with it (I really am not a fan of the Z6/7).
What's wrong with them that you don't like?
@@dct124 The Z6, an inability to fit a battery grip.
Z7, inability to fit a battery grip, single card slot, the fact that the camera feels prosumer and not professional.
Both, I hate the grip. It is too short and you have that protrusion on the battery grip which is meant to help with the grip fails because it means you have to hold the camera in a certain way, which makes it hard to hold with the whole grip.
Whilst, I don't hate the AF and Nikon have improved the system. It definitely ranks behind Sony and Canon in terms of AF performance, probably ahead of Panasonic and generally around the level of Fujifilm.
Nikon have a good platform to build but for me they messed up the details, because they tried to cost cut by using the same body for Z7 as the Z6, by not incorporating a battery grip and by only having a single card slow. Things like the single card slot is stuff that Nikon users used to mock Sony users for not having and then Nikon does exactly the same thing.
I have been using Nikon for 20'ish years and whilst I love their DSLR's, Nikon has a way of screwing up there other cameras.
There are positives with the Z6/Z7 and hopefully we will see Nikon step up with the Z6/Z7 s or II adding a grip and second card slot, as well as improving the AF but from what I hear, they are keeping the same form factor, which currently is something I won't buy into.
@@MichaelLaing71 Some of the same reasons for me too. It took me about 5min to get a cramp, everytime I pick one up. I'm around 20ish years too shooting. I personally never cared for a battery grip. Had a D3s and still shot with the portrait controls locked off. Never had an issue with 1 card slot. Never had a failure, never will b/c I know how to avoid card failures. My D200 lost 3 pins, still no failures with 1.2mil clicks. I didn't own a Z6 or Z7 so I don't know the speed but I did own a Z50 which Iiked but I hate that EVF lag, too bright, battery life was weak unless in jpg and the buffer was small. I don't mind shooting jpeg, I did for years b/c cards were too expensive to go pass 2gb was like omg.
I don't think mirrorless is for me and I shoot with a DF now which so many complained about, I still don't see why even low light af I don't miss now if something is black it will like a reception hall with no lights.
Oh and the Z6 and Z7 are enthusiast cameras, the issue is people want them to be more than what they were designed for. They aren't pro bodies and Nikon never said they were. Mirrorless overall is still slow to me including Sony. I still don't see the fascination other than selling YT clicks. I'm in the market for a new main body for next year.
D4, D500 or D6 in that order. Canon and Fuji and especially Sony just don't feel good in my hands.
@@MichaelLaing71 I also don't need eye AF. Not saying it bad I just don't need it.
Whoa.... was that a screw on hood?...never saw such a thing.
Yes it it, like a separate outer thread for the hood👍🏻
London Viewpoints thanks for the confirm. Excellent work with this presentation.

You know this lens is still sold out. It's crazy how all these reviewers complain about the price tag yet Nikon can't make enough for the demand. Then they all ask the price to go down, why would they lower the cost if they keep selling it? Adorama still has one and Amazon literally has 1 left. There's a total of 5 remaining on eBay. I seriously doubt Nikon will ever lower the price and they honestly shouldn't.
Is it? I didn’t know that. Also I never said they should, just said it too expensive for me to own, while it makes perfect sense that if the are always sold out, they should keep it or even increase it. The 50/1.2S now is priced reasonably, but I still love my 50/1.8S that is just perfect value and quality for money 👍🏻
@@LondonViewpoints me too I prefer 1.8 to 2.8 with 50 to 60mm.
When Nikon still had pre-orders they had to close the pre-orders due to too many orders (they couldn't keep up with the demand)
I think you're right in saying it was experimental. I think they just did it as a proof of concept to say we have the best lens period (subjective)
I also liked a lot of your points, you really thoughtout this review.
@@LondonViewpoints just checked their site, they have more in stock now. A few months ago they were sold out.
Did you contact Nikon to see if there was a reason why the aperture kept opening and closing during time lapse?
Donovan Tyler thanks a lot for your kind words about my review☺️yes I also think the 50/1.8S is superb. Regardless if it’s sold out or not, the NOCT is and will be a timeless legendary lens that will find its buyers, they won’t be sitting on stock too long. Yea, I’ve asked Nikon about the aperture flicker but didn’t quite get the reply, they just apparently fed this feedback back to Nikon Japan, so maybe, just maybe they’ll fix it in the future 🤷🏼♂️next body or firmware 🤷🏼♂️
Unreal, almost looks like youre on a green screen.
Yeah, it does, doesn’t it😱it’s like a bokehrama but moving 🤩
