Hey mate, great video. I’m looking at the exact same boat. What’s the shallowest water it’ll realistically go in? My local river has a few spots that have some 40cm sandbars at low tide.
I think it would handle such low water depths at low speed but probably not ideal. Up at the Murray where I fish there are a few rock/clay banks like that which I try to avoid by checking river height. There are times at low water levels I wish I had a 420 which is a lot lighter aluminium and lighter motor. I do most of my fishing in lakes where 440 is ideal. I am considering a v-nose punt for really shallow rivers so that might suit you better
@@brentonclarke thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate your practical advice. A lot of the boat places just want to make a sale, and don’t care if it’s what you actually need. How much better is the 420 in shallow water do you know? Thanks again!
@martinfpss I’m not to sure if 420 would be better. I just checked and it does not look like there is much of a difference in weight between a 420 and 440. I had thought 420 used slightly lighter aluminium but it does not look like that is the case. So maybe only 50-100kg difference between the two which might no make much difference. I have not had any issue going downstream over 40-50cm of water but find it a lot harder and slower going up stream against the current which often flows quicker over the shallows. Giving it more revs does dig the back in a little which makes it harder. So it is doable
They sit pretty good with 1 person. I do have the anchor and chain stowed up front on the left and usually place my esky on the left and all of that acts to counter-balance the boat as the side console is on the right
Nice mate. I'm picking up a 420 next week. Hopefully the weather warms up soon!
Good on you. The 420 is a great sized boat. Yes been pretty cold last few weeks. I might see you out on the water one day then?
@@brentonclarke Fair bet mate. Saw you out Eppalock a few weeks back. We pulled up and said g'day. You know my mate.
ah yeah I remember now
Nice boat Brenton. Makes mine look like a bathtub!
Thanks. The renegade is a great versatile boat
Hey dude, try tying the boat down via the motor. I have cat lifting lugs on the mounting bolts. Hell of alot easier to get to. Good looking boat mate!
Thanks for the tip
and for crying out loud DO NOT forget the bung plugs, well done video mate
Yeah I think that would be any boat owners worst nightmare

Very informative video Thanks. I have a 420 renegade. What lb. thrust and shaft length have you got on the Minn Kota?
Thanks. I have 12v 55lb thrust. I think it is the standard 54in shaft length
how do the renegades go with one passenger does the boat stay pretty level or lean over to the drivers side ?
