Precisely what I was looking for! Replaced my handle a few weeks back, for the life of me, couldn't get any slack in the horseshoe latch. Thank you so much for the tension cable trick!!
I have looked for days to find a video just like yours (I don't know what terms I finally used that brought be to yours, that I didn't find the first times). THANK YOU!!! I'm going to replace my release handle right now.
Just replaced my broken handle and this video direction was a godsend. Had more trouble that I thought as it's pretty tight in there and I lost a cap or two before finally locating the cable nipple. Also forgot to reattach the cable release on the opposite side before testing, so had to spend 30 minutes taking out trim and fishing around with a screwdriver to manually release the hook for the tonneau cover! Serves me right for rushing when I thought the job was done! Anyway, thanks for posting this one as it's been on my hit list for a few months now.
If you still remember.. can you help me with how you got it open with the screwdriver. I did the exact same thing and now it won’t open at all on the passenger side..
Amen bubba and ditto! I'm in the procees of doing just this chore. Indeed, the pin broke out the top of the pivot in the cardboard matchbook-thin plastic frame. It's a 1988 so I hope to get another 34 years out of it especially after I heed your very insight full "two-click" adjustment advice. Happy Trails! PS: Since this thing needs traction and no rotation to do its job I recommend being mindful of the installation of the trim ring. You'll notice on the back it's got hooks. They act to compress the panel (traction) BUT the forward end has a slight recess that allows the trim ring to "dock" with the frame and hold it. I believe making sure that this docking occurs is vital to adding the rigidity needed to avoid the rotation and subsequent cracking that occurs during operation.
HI Thanks for the video man !! every time I buy an e30 the release handle its missing ! this time thanks to your video and your information I'm gonna replace it !!! no more using pliers lol ... Thanks again !! greetings from California !! Robbie :)
Haha, the little details. It took me a while to figure out all the parts I needed and that is why I made the video and included part #s. Glad it helped someone.
Completed the latch replacement today and never would’ve been able to do it without this video. Thank you! Quick question - do you know the purpose of the foam piece between the latch assembly and the metal body? I didn’t use it and wanted to see if it was essential.
Do a video on adjusting the windows! When I close my door with the top down and windows up, the front windows hit the metal trim on the rear qtr window's. They also rattle when driving down the road, same scenario, windows up top down.
the rattle might come from the white plastic spacers where the rear windows are mounted, problem is u need to hold the screw (torx) between the glass and the white plastic (means better to take out the entire window). Any other adjustments seen in this video, windows towards the end ua-cam.com/video/Ahy8PWhxw8c/v-deo.html
@@NoGaragE30 Thanks for the info ... yours is a beautiful car . I have a similar model 1992 325i cabriolet, stick shift , Laguna Green color with 48k original miles and I am the 2nd owner .....it is completely original , just the rear muffler has been changed and as it came out of the factory from Germany
Thank you for posting this video. IDK that the passenger side handle would work, I was looking for the part for weeks as top release handle with no luck.
@@NoGaragE30 I got the new handle today, trying to make the installation easier I've released the cables from their mechanisms and accidentally I closed it, the driver side is locked, any ideas on how to open ? Please

For the metal bushing - you say that the shorter bushing goes on the bottom of the handle, but when you do it, it looks like the shorter one is on the top. Which is it?

Where did you get the rims for the car , can you advise size and do you use spacers to handle the offset
Wheels came with the car when I got it. 17x8.5 +20. No spacers.

Ouch. You should be able to access it if you remove the plastic piece that covers it.
I will try that tomorrow, thanks
@@NoGaragE30 I manage to open, thanks again
Thx man
The storage space where the top goes in on mine won’t open, any way I can fix this?
Where u located? Thx
can you include a link as to where buy this please?
& thanks again for this very helpful video!
I got these parts from Pelicanparts.com but you also order from the dealer. Part numbers are in the video description.
What kind if front valence you have?
That is the early model IS valance, aka the "cowcatcher."

Short one does go on the bottom, meaning towards the long section. The handle itself is installed upside down which seems confusing I know.
