It was my fault which I tried to convey in the vid. I tried making the burner into a vaporizer which did work however, inside the Mercer the tank kept getting too hot and would spew alcohol. I repurposed it for a custom Jensen 65 plant which I made a video of and in that it works as long as I don't over fill the tank.
Steven, those engines are super nice! Running two engines like these at the same time as trying to film must have been like herding cats! 😂 I like your sterno burners. I love your tinkering. They work well. Great vid.
Thanks Terry you do great tinkering also with custom decals and builds. I saw you got some Wilesco engines, it isn't too hard to build Sterno trays. I use fire pro fine torch that works with propane and mapi gas. You only need plumbing solder 450f melt point.
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Bricks If you find a Mercer for sale for a Type I or Type II between $800 and $1400 US, depending on condition, I would recommend buying it as long as nothing major is missing. The Wilesco TEs are good and are readily available. The Mercer plans were sold to a company in England that can't get anyone to produce parts to keep them going sadly. They are a silver brazed brass pot boiler with full stephenson valve gear and hand cut brass gears. They are assembled with flat head boltss, easy to take apart and put back together. The main steam line is the only pain in the hind end as it doesn't have pipe nipples, you have to use o rings or teflon tape to seal it. Mamod TEs are good too. Mercer was a step above Mamod and Wilesco TEs but below a true scale model with a watts boiler.
live steam is hot
Great video Steven. That alcohol makes me nervous. Sterno although not as hot is safer and works just fine👍

@ i made a sterno tray for my road engine. Then I fitted a butane system I already had. Got some vids on it.
I saw some of the videos you did on your Wilesco TE. I will need to watch the latest one
@ i just posted one now. Your Mercers engines are spectacular machines. Moreso than my Wilesco.
