Another media star arrives! It's time for a Grand Tour of the Workshop

- It's high-time for another catchup with the workshop full of delights! Fresh from it's excursions on The Grand Tour's 'Carnage a Trois' special, a lovely Citroën SM, previously owned and restored by Mike Brewer (he of Wheeler Dealers fame) has arrived in the workshop, ready for the attention of Iain and his team. Thankfully it looks to have escaped any harm at the hands of Hammond and Clarkson!
Iain takes us on a whistle-stop tour of the workshop, from one classical delight to another, catching up on restoration projects covered previously along with a handful of new arrivals, including Harry Metcalfe's Espada which is back for some work now the engine has been run in. Join Iain on a road-test to see how those new forged pistons are bedding in to the Lamborghini V12.

Is it possible that we could see a little more fault finding Iain? It’s so great to see those skills being used by you and your team. Electrical and mechanical faults were always a challenge for me in my youth (70’s). I really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
I love these old classics so much more than the homogeneous hyper cars of today. You sir are a talent!
Modern hypercars or supercars, they make me vomit. Too many silly pointless spoilers, sills, vents and holes. It's all about 0 to 60, no character, no soul, no style. Can't stand them.
@@a.m.9357 What an idiotic comment. You are obviously not a true car enthusiast. There are some fantastic modern cars, destined to be future classics. Old or new there have been some real disasters best forgotten.
@@alexmorgan3435 Alex, you are a sour mouth. Everyone may have his own opinion. Even you, mate.
Okay, JK, go out get one and drive one! Let us know how it went... ;)
@@kttk4564 Sound good. May I borrow some money. I promise to give you a ride. Haha
The quality of content is just magnificient.. love these videos
I would like to say a deep RESPECT to your incredibly skilled employees, Mr Tyrrell. They seem able to build any part ofany supercar, with their bare hands and many years of experience. Even the younger guys are impressive, all down to you Mr Tyrrell. Thank you for saving these rolling sulptures, and passing on the skill of creating art with your hands.
how does he keep them though
How happy we all are that Harry could inspire You to start Your channel and share Your astonishing, changing workshop inventory with us.
Merry Christmas, a good New Year and the best for You all from the Bavarian Alps!
Thank you very much. The same to you too!
The Citroën SM is one of the coolest cars ever made in my opinion.
I just turned 24 and it’s my dream car. I wish people my age could appreciate older things like that rather than lust after all the Modern amorphous hypercars
Agreed. Full on. One of a kind, and an engineering masterpiece. I wish us well on our mutual dream. At 36 I sat in one but ownership of a fine example would set us back well north of 30k.
Didn't look too much wrong with it on the surface! - Absolutely gleaming.
in 1973 I roomed with some guys who worked at a Citroen dealership.
The SM felt more like you were in a plane or on a boat, definitely the top of the tops, doesn't get any better than that!
Yea if you than compare it to the XM you almost start crying seeing where they went afterwards.
This has got to be the best classic car channel, pure enjoyment
The amount of truly beautiful cars in this video is staggering. Imagine going to work and seeing them all under one roof at the same time. Fabulous!
Always a pleasure to see one of Tyrrel’s videos on a Sunday afternoon. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and all the team on the garage. Greetings from Brazil.
One has to admire and love how deep the connection to the machines can be even with a professional. Love the stories about those special relationships with some cars that Iain has. Good stuff always!
I think that's the essence the Iain has managed to distil for us to enjoy, its a pleasure to see that passion and refreshing to see it being passed on to a young apprentice like Leon.
Look at the perlage on that blasting cabinet(?) at 12:06. That's the most beautiful workshop tool I've ever seen, like a giant swiss watch movement.
Geez, I thought _I_ was obsessed with the background elements. Well spotted.
Love the workshop tour. The Lamborghini 350 GT restoration is stunning.
@@p.b.1589 same for me, I loved this car immediately when I saw it on Ian's channel. I must confess I liked the burgundy metallic better especially with the cream interior, but hey I'm not the owner (unfortunately) ;-)
As a kid growing up in the 70’s in Florida I had a neighbor that owned two Citroen’s and I was amazed. They were an oddity compared to the American muscle cars I found Interesting at the time, 11 year old, 1971. Today I think it is one of the coolest cars ever. Just a beautiful car. I love the channel. Well done man!!!
Ohhh Mate, I hope the apprentices appreciate how generous you are being sharing your knowledge and giving them the opportunity. You are essentially giving them a life to earn a living. I love watching you. I once was given the same opportunity, didn't appreciate it at the time but now I'm 45 I do. Xx
As one of Tyrell Engineering’s early customers I would like to wish Iain and the channel the best for Xmas and a successful 2022. Still love that Dino !
Thanks Andrew,
Much appreciated. The very same to you too. :-)
@@iain_tyrrell Nice to see the clock working in Harry's car Iain, it seems like a small detail but there are so many classic cars with the clock stoppped. I always think it looks like a job that's not finished when owners get the car up together nicely but don't bother with the clock. There are companies which specialise in that as I'm sure you know, they'll even fit quartz innards for real accuracy.
Never had a clock not work in a 911. Just saying, even apart from my 964 collection, even my 73' 911t coupe still says the right time. Clock never been restored. Germans....haha
Lucky you!
@@bigdaddygreg1973
So maybe it’s no coincidence that Iain specialises in Italian (instead of German) exotica 😁
Great to see Leon and the other young guys. Hopefully they are making the most of their opportunities in the shop and readying themselves to carry on after Iain decides to put down his wrenches.
Citroen SM been around them 3 decades one of the best and most frustrating cars ever manufactured. Love them ❤️
I love that! Frustrating but wonderful all at the same time!
We British always slate french cars but Citroen were very good and made some very very good cars
V6 too late n SM can imagine workshop fees might add up.
@@330driver330 absolutely, Traction Avant, DS, 2CV, to name a few, are superb engineering solutions and groundbreaking.
A dream workplace, great that you have found young staff who also like this work.
Just found this channel - it's like an online version of a fabulous barnfind 😁
"And this is a Miura " he says with a straight face whilst pointing at various pieces of welded metal 🤣gladly subscribed 👍
My dad had a 400Gt. He loved it and kept it for many years. He imported it from an ad in Road and Track. Got to drive it and it was a real treat. He replaced the orginal ignition with an Jaguar V12 electrical distribritor.
How refreshing! An intro without some crappy library musack, just a couple of classy logo fades. I love this channel.
This channel is like a fine wine. It's already great, and over time it gets even better! Bravo!
Great video, Iain. Enjoyed the reference back to Harry and his Espada. Looking forward to the next. 👍
Great updates this week, there is no shortage of sheer talent or amazing vehicles there.
For some reason I always feel like I have a few more brain cells restored after watching one of Ian’s videos. Always enjoyable.
Have a happy and safe Christmas everyone.
Hello Mister Tyrell,
Another great video, and I am still hoping to see a V8 Vantage in your shop or in one of Harry's reviews. In my opinion they are the "better Espadas". I want to hear that Aston V8 at full power and admire its looks, preferably an early pre 1980 car. Thanks again. Georges
This is like a Candystore: I want to touch, feel and take it all ! Wow lot's of great videos in the making with all these great, great cars !
Love, love, love this - thank you for this peek inside your incredibly busy and very interesting workshop once again Iain. Your videos rock ❤️
Really nice to see the youngster getting involved in the project they are very lucky to be working with you indeed.
Now u all see the respect Ian has earned in life. When he wants a car painted, wow do they get it done fast!
There may be weeks between his first vid and the final one...
🙄
Fabulous update. Thank you. The SM with the Espada (and the NSU Ro 80 plus M B R107 ) are within my top 10 favourite cars. We certainly can be quite thankful the SM returning unscathed since one might never know from those three petrol heads, lol. Specially Hammond seems to have made quite the name. Seeing this SM being featured later would be a delight. A wonderful but intricate piece of engineering and rolling art.
What a feast of a video! I can't wait to see your upcoming films on the FF and the SM! As usual, you've knocked it right out of the park, another belter!!
Excellent as always, thank you. Happy Christmas to you and all at Tyrrell's Classic Workshop
You and Harry are both so entertaining, and calming, to watch on your videos. Well done!
The BMW CS gets my approval. Cool work guys!
Excellent as always Mr.
Greetings from Sweden
Can't wait to see that Islero , one of my favourites, ever since I saw one in the film "The man who haunted himself " many years ago driven by the evil alter ego of Roger Moores character , it took me many years to find out what it was , long before the Internet existed. The Miura is my all time favourite car , always love to see them on your channel Iain. 👍 👍 👏 👏
I can't wait to see Iain do an episode on a 308 gt4. Would make a great story with the bertone/lamborghini connection, dino badged, first v8 Road car, the overshadowed, unloved, unknown ferrari of the 70's! Iains knowledge of the lamborghini/ferrari connection would be great to here on that one!
Merry Christmas to you all!
Yours is the genuine grand tour with the rebuilt Espada at the end. Thank you for sharing.
Iain, I am subscribed & enjoyed the variety of this video. As a Mercedes-Benz owner-driver I've enjoyed the previous M-B videos you've done & would enjoy seeing more, as I'm sure other M-B enthusiasts would. :)
A great look around your workshop at some wonderful cars, thankyou. I'd love to see a Bizzarini GT 5300 in your care and what you would say about it Iian, my absolute favourite classic, i owned one for 5 minutes in 1970 but thats a long sad Italian story.
Christmas wishes to all at Tyrrell's Workshop from Rome👍🇬🇧
So. Many. Lamborghini's. Lovely
This was really enjoyable. Love the activity going on at Ian's workshop.
I am really pleased that you have started this channel Iain, your knowledge is first class and it's a real joy to listen and watch your videos. keep up the great and very interesting work that you all do at your workshop.
Kind regards Paul
1:25 Funny, I knew that was a Miura as soon as I saw it. That’s testament to Iain and his channel, I wouldn’t have had a clue what it was a year ago. Keep up the good work.
About the Citroën SM. Four years ago I visited Bill Richardson Museum of Transport in Invercargill, about 14000 miles from my home, I admired the Citroën SM in a far corner of the museum. An older man was standing next to it, I told him that Johan Cruyff owned such a car in the 70ties. and that he was a very fameus Dutch footballplayer. I know the man sad, I played with him!!!!!
The older man was a former Dutch proffesional football player witch immigrated to New Zealand in the 80ties!
It’s a small word!!!
Can’t wait to see the Citroen SM a fantastic futuristic and ahead of it’s time car. As was the Citroen DS
Merry Christmas to you and your team.
Interesting and beautifully presented as always Iain. The Espada is to die for.
May I wish you, your family and staff a very good Christmas, and a prosperous video filled 2022 😀
Cheers, Bob
This channel is addictive, Mr Tyrrell is the kind of person when he speaks everyone must listen because every word he says worths. I'll be waiting for more 10 minute magic restoration status, i have enjoyed so much this episode. Please keep it up the excellent work. Merry Christmas and a 2022 plenty of success.
As always a total delight to watch Iain and his talented team work through some amazing restorations on equally amazing cars. The Ferrari Dino 246 Gt is one of those dream cars I always have loved, and luckily some years ago managed to have a ride in one. Just stunning.
If i lived in the UK i would be honoured to have Iain and his team look after my minor Italian classics as i know they would be in the very best hands but alas I live in Tassie and hence have to make do with a local mechanic. Trying to find someone to do excellent restoration work here is extremely difficult as most bodywork shops are only interested in modern cars and insurance work..
Happy Christmas to you Iain and your team.
Can I take a second to applaud the first cars owner on a terrific reg number 👏
Good evening lain. Another superb presentation ! So much to see and so many great stories . I think we saw your young protege ! I think you saw your own reflection ! Thankyou so much for the past 12 months of magnetic , educational and just enjoying your chit chat .
You are working on a wonderful array of cars and are so fortunate to be able to enjoy your business so much. Although the Miura is my all-time favourite car I particularly look forward to watching your Citroen SM report. Your channel and Harry’s are the two best on UA-cam and long may you both prosper. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Fantastic episode . . the Lamborghini stuck behind the tractor is a real symbiotic moment.
What a pleasure to watch these works in progress.
A nice and varied video, great to see some of the folks behind these marvellous resurrections and the fabulous car being driven at the end.
Have a great Christmas team Tyrrell!
Thanks- you too!
Thank You so much for taking Harry's advice, on starting up your own video channel.
I never thought someone could equal or surpass Harry's Garage, for interest and content,
I really like the way you describe the technical aspects of your garage, its quite magnificent.
Please keep up the cracking videos, its more than a pleasure watching them, from across the water in sleepy Llandudno
Love to see the end result of the Dino, what a beaut!
Thank you very much Ian for continuing to provide inspiring, considered and informative content, without need for tacky gimmicks or horrendous acting. I would love for you to do a feature on our Australian exotic the "Holden Hurricane", maybe GMSV/Holden top brass could whisk you to Melbourne to "tune it". Seriously love your professionalism and vibe. Kind Regards, Rob
Leon hired for his matching hair cut 😂
Great video. Thank you so much for letting us having some insight on your current projects. 🙏🏻🙏🏻😊😊
Lovely to meet the good people who work with you.
That SM. wow.
Happy Christmas Iain - and thanks for an excellent channel! I can't have enough Miura coverage but am most curious to find out more about the Islero and had hoped that one would show up in your workshop sooner or later. I am looking forward to you demonstrating how it drives: is it a (slightly) more affordable Miura or Espada type GT car. Can't wait to find out!
The SM is so beautiful! It's the most beautiful of them all
A new video from Tyrrell is the best Christmas gift 🎁🙏🏻 I can't believe the beauty and work on the 350 GT! 👏 Merry Christmas All 🎄
Thanks- same to you!
Very excited for a video about the SM! Just subscribed.
A stunning Library in your control. Stunning.
Looking forward to see the SM video!
The cars are just beautiful! Wow
Looks like you have plenty to keep you all busy, well into 2022, which is shaping up to be a very good year at TCW, thanks for taking us along four the ride, Iain!
Tell us more about "Yensen"! That's the first time I've heard that pronunciation! "Oi dow think they say it loik that in West Bromeech, Cocker!"
The Espada is my all time favourite Lamborghini. Love seeing Harry’s Espada.
Excellent & Happy Christmas !
Enthralling run through of your current projects and great to see you training restorers of the future.
Merry Christmas to you all !
A Merry Christmas to all at Tyrell's Classic Workshop. Your Updates are excellent and I'm sure have given everyone great viewing in very difficult times. Thank you.
Ferguson Formula Jensen and Citroen are two of my favorites from 'across the pond' as they used to say.
Look at that 308 paint job !!! Beautiful work
Excellent video ,what a great place to work for the new staff, hope they are doing well, absolutely love that Jenson, looking forward to seeing more of that, and the Citroen, and all the Italian exotica, drool. Merry Christmas Iain and thanks for all the videos this year.
Thanks and Merry Christmas to you too!
The Ferrari restoration genius! Brilliant work Tyrell! Videos are amazing.
As usual an excellent viewing experience, I can't wait for the islero episode, one of my favourite all time classics, that 350gt looks stunning, above and below, wow.
When I sleep tonight I'll probably be dreaming of these machines, weird, I know.
During the Espada drive, look down to the clock on the center console. Note the constant sweep of the second hand. Contrast this with the rush of the road in the windshield. Art in motion, and I thank you, Ing. Tyrrell.
I love the British usage of "fitted". It resonates of raw material draped, formed, trimmed and secured into place. This is so even with the replacement of a rotor on the distributor shaft. Pop the old one off, pop the new one on, fitted. And onward!
I was one of those who came across your channel via Harry's Espada rebuild and I can't help comment that each video you do gets better and better. Keep up the great work Iain, your team, and your cinematographer, and I look forward to more videos from the workshop.
The maroon looked nice on the 350GT, but that blue is spectacular. Well done
Mildly reassuring.....Classic!
Great content. Thanks Iain.
What a beauties you have there Tyrrell!
Great video.
And ... Merry Christmas!
Fantastic selection of wonderful cars 👏👏
Your videos are addicting. Can’t get enough of it.
Thanks for everything you have posted in 2021. I look forward to seeing what's coming in 2022. In the meantime have a great, restful, Christmas and a happy new year.
Thanks, and the same to you!
"Oh Yes, Beautiful!" Another great video Mr. Tyyrell. You and your team do fantastic work and we are so thankful you take the time to share it all with us. I hope everyone at the workshop has a wonderful Christmas holiday and we look forward to seeing more of your work in the new year.
Another fabulous video, I've watched every one since he started. looking forward to seeing the Dino progress as I've owned one for 24 years.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year from Copenhagen.
All I want for Christmas is much more of that amazing Citroen SM🥰 My absolute dreamcar.
Another first class production!
Yes another great episode with workshop follow up😉
Love these videos. Always click straight away as soon as I see a new one.
I enjoy these workshop updates, thanks. Looking forward to seeing the SM, especially when the interior is done - a lovely art deco feel to them.
the wheels on that 350 gt.... goodness gracious 😍
How lovely. Like a warm bath!
New subscriber here. Although I took a different career path, I come from a family of car enthusiasts, dealers, and amateur racing drivers. Your channel takes me back to my father and uncle’s workshop, to that old-school love of cars and well-built machinery. Thank you and keep up the fantastic work. 👍🏻
Excellent! Looking forward to all the dedicated videos of the projects in the workshop. Merry Christmas.
You and Harry are my only regular stops; keep up the good work. Like Barry [below] I love the history and origins of each wonderful car in your care, but I really enjoy seeing the work happen. The Miura metal work and the Espada engine work was ...riveting, as was the Lagonda story. Can't wait for the Jensen and Citroën works. Happy Christmas.
