    Cool, i have a zenit 11 camera with 2 lenses and also 2 nikon cameras, but i still like to shoot straight in film more than using digital cameras. Anyway, you gave me a nice idea to try. Thanks man

    Another good video bill I use an adaptor on my Nikon 7/100 to use my Minolta 50 mil but I can only use it on manual and it works fine

    Great video, explains everything nicely!I just had a question or more of an issue with my Helios 44-M, when i use it on my Nikon D3400, at wide open f/2 its just pitch black!? I have to slow the shutter speed down to 1/80 or sometimes even 1/50 to get some light onto the sensor. I am using the infinity focus adapter on it, any reasons as to why this happens and how I can fix it?
    Thanks

      Turn the aperture ring the other way and see what happens.

    Bill just need to ask a question does using the adaptor with corrective lens cut down on image quality?, reason being I have just purchased two M42 lenses for my Nikon D3300 and did not realise the issue with the infinity focus

    • @lawsonpix
      @lawsonpix  5 років тому +3

      A little bit of image quality, yes. But it changes the style of the bokeh more, which is why I don't use mine much.

      @@lawsonpix Interesting. Let's face it, I don't think many use Helios to have infinity in focus. Much better lens choices for that. Helios is mostly used to blow out the background and create crazy bokeh effects.

    Hello is it possible if you did another video on how to attach your vintage lens on a Nikon/Canon DSLR? More of a studio version of this tutorial. (I'm a newbie so need help) Thank you

    Hello I appreciate this video I just forwarded it to a friend asking about Nikon adaptability as I did a review of this lens on my Channel also. Just a suggestion though so your model doesn't feel awkward standing there a long time while you talk it's a good idea to shoot the talking head portion separately before going out to do the shoot. Just a suggestion.

    Any chance of hitting the mirror on D7xxx using m42 adapter? Distance between mount flange and lens have to be no more than 9mm.

    im having trouble with my nikon d200 achieving the results you show. when i use the metal ring it doesn't seem like i can focus on anything that isnt less then a foot infront of me.

    • @lawsonpix
      @lawsonpix  6 років тому

      A foot?? Have you tried focusing the lens to infinity? When I focus to infinity, I get about 4-5 feet depending on the lens.

    • @ZachOnCameras
      @ZachOnCameras 6 років тому

      depending on what m42 lens i use i get between a foot and 3 feet and I'm using the same metal ring you showed with the Helios i get about 3 feet iv just measured it but with all my other m42 lenses it seems like they have become like a macro lens and focus only extremely close or have a bad blur at all distances. the focal lengths i have tried are 28 50 44 and 100

    • @ZachOnCameras
      @ZachOnCameras 6 років тому

      i guess my question is. do i really lose 70% of my focus range no matter what adapter i use? only close range items can be focused nothing more then 4-5 feet

    • @lawsonpix
      @lawsonpix  6 років тому +1

      No, you should not loose 70% of your focus range. Thinner adapters will give you better results. Also, I show 2 other ways to mount an M42 lens to a Nikon. you can get the Profoto mount www.adorama.com/fdm42nkg.html?kbid=913638
      Or just hold the lens in front of the camera.

    • @Zainphotography
      @Zainphotography 4 роки тому

      @@lawsonpix Ok, I will just hold the lens Infront of my D850.

      There is a nice M42 to Z mount adaptor made by K&F Concept. It works perfectly with Helios 44M-4 and Nikon Z6.

    What camera did you use for the test pictures?
    Was it a full frame or crop?
    Since crop won't fully capture Helios signature bokeh. And Helios signature is "on full power" while standing add close as you can to the object, at least that is what I noticed :)

    • @lawsonpix

      @@lawsonpix Try shooting as close as you can, and have some close distant background (trees, flowers..) to your shooting object.
      The swirling effect would be more noticable.

    The "freelensing" method is a really bad idea because you are going to have the back of the lens collide with the mirror. The right way is to modify the lens itself so that it gives you infinity focus.
