I don’t know why but Alicent and Rhaenyra toasting each other made me really sad bc you could tell they still had love for each other even though it was covered by duty confusion and years of disagreement.
Its even more sad to think they couldve had a wonderful life together if Otto didnt "poison" Alicent with the idea off messing with the succession and that Rhaenyra would murder her sons the moment Viserys died. So many years and lives ruined because one dipshit wanted his grandkids on the throne.

@@Oakland510 The episode’s director did say Alicent clings to the possibility that reconciling with Rhaenyra is a way out of this impending chaos. She described Alicent as lonely & desperate for “that love and connection in her life.” I felt Olivia gave a beautiful & nuanced performance which conveyed this, but I respect that many people might feel differently.
We learn a few things. 1. Daemon was genuinely lost and saddened by seeing his brother that way, and they love each other incredibly. 2. Aemond is a literal BEAST. You can see Daemon seeing himself in him (you’re right they are one and the same with the fire and brutality) and Aemond being impressed by Daemon. This episode really got to me. When King Visery’s had a final subtle look at each face around the table and you could see that he was done. He always tried to do the right thing. The trouble was that it was his family and not him who couldn’t get their act together. His final walk to the iron throne, I felt every step he took. I suppose the last family meal was his last shot to make things right, and Visery’s knew it. But he ended up dying a lonely death. Tragic, so bloody tragic.
@@Mira-K he always tries so hard and ends up ruining everything, just like when he was in a good place with Rhaenyra than decided to marry her best friend
this episode had me sobbing. my father passed from cancer earlier this year, and seeing viserys in this episode definitely hit even harder for that reason. for all of his faults as king, i think he was a good, kind-hearted person. 😭
I'm so sorry about your father. May he rest in peace and may you find peace and solace in his memory. I too lost my father to cancer 8 years ago. He was my best friend. It's hard to see someone you love go like this. Everything happens for a reason. That experience made me a better version of my self, made me cherish my loved ones even more, made me wiser, patient, and more thoughtful. I'm sure there is a higher purpose to the pain you went through as well. Sometimes its hard to see it immediately, but years down the road when you look back, you connect the dots and understand the higher wisdom behind life's happening. I wish you the very best in life. Sending prayers and well wishes...
Daemon realized in the courtroom that his brother is not weak, he is actually much stronger than he ever was. Vyserys was a very decent king, he deserves more credit
Visarys is underrated, it's easy to say he's making bad decisions knowing what will come but he did good, it probably wouldn't be thst bad if he didn't talk to Alisent in this death bed
The scene where Daemon accompanies his brother to the throne and puts the crown on him was improvised by Matt Smith at the time, and the director left it. This happens when an actor like Matt Smith acts. A masterpiece💔
Actually, during rehearsal the crown fell off Paddy Considine's head and Matt Smith picked it up. The director never said cut, so they kept going. They did shots of the crown not falling off and falling off, but they went with the shot of the crown falling. I'm really glad they went with that.
According to the show writers, this was the last time jump. This was a hauntingly beautiful and sad episode. Paddy Considine deserves all the awards for his episode alone. I got emotional more than once. Great reaction as always!
I haven't cried so much in an episode set in this universe since Jon Snow was stabbed in season 5; And I cried for like half of this episode. From Viserys meeting his grandkids, to him entering the throne room like THE KING HE IS, to Daemon helping his brother onto the throne, to him watching his family truly happy in his final moments.... incredible acting from Paddy. Incredible direction. Incredible editing. Incredible score. All of it was just perfect. He will be dearly missed.
@@kendonato1887 listen bro, I dunno about you, but you at least ask her “do you wanna die in agonising pain being cut up? Without any guarantees? Or you wanna take this milk of the poppy and just end it right now?” Like she chooses that? Fair play- she clearly had no clue what was happening - if you think my man was justified in that - go you 🤣
Not really everyone knew jace was a bastard whatever problems he’d have would be helaenas too. She would basically be a hostage along with their children. Alicent was smart enough to understand this. Y’all don’t understand how two faced the marriage proposal was bc the ground beneath rhanerya s feet was shrinking it was out of desperation. The conflict It’s not as black and white or black and green as you think
@@mansoorahmed1676she wouldn’t have been a hostage. She and Jace would have had a good marriage in my opinion. Alicent and Rhaenyra would have shared a grandchild and the future King would have come from both of them.
So many emotions throughout this episode. When Viserys walked in to defend his daughter yet again, when Daemon placed the crown on his brothers head. No one can deny the love he has for his family. The hope I felt when I thought Alicent and Rhaenyra could reconcile all to be washed away my Viserys thinking he ws talking to Rhaenyra with his last breath when he was talking to Alicent. Ugh I was so angry. All the hard work just undone so quickly. Incredible episode, actually very sad to see Viserys go tbh but he was is so much pain. One thing about Alicent, she did always look after him which I think was great of her.
What's really sweet is that the crown falling wasn't scripted. Paddy accidentally let it fall off, then he and Matt continued the scene and Matt put it back on. Incredible and believable improv man
As a note for the both of you: 1. Since there are two Aegon's in the show now, Westeros usually refers to Alicent and Viserys' son as "Aegon, the Elder" and Rheanyra and Daemon's son as "Aegon the Younger." Just to differentiate them. 2. Rheanyra's two young sons with Daemon are NOT twins. They're close in age but born separately. About 2 years apart in age. 3. There was actually an 8 year time jump in between episodes so all of the characters are 8 years older, but its been 6 years since Corlys went to the Stepstones and got gravely wounded.
Daemon's sword is Valyrian Steel and is called "Dark Sister". The roast pig was set before Aemond, which made Lucerys think of the 'pig dragon' when they were children, hence the laugh.
Props to Paddy Considine.. absolutely captivating performances. Special shout to Ewan Mitchell for his book accurate depiction of Aemond. The casting is top notch and this episode was just excellent. That scene of Viserys walking to the throne was dope. Especially since the crown falling was by accident. Matt Smith picked it up and they kept rolling. That brought so much more to the scene. Really hoping the quality of the show stays this high.
@@Norien711 I believe it was in the aftershow? They said it was completely unscripted for it to fall, let alone for Daemon to put it back on. I think he was only supposed to help Viserys up
No, I would say that he was weak. He was swayed too easily, he let serious problems fester and not meet them head on... But he showed that 'weakness' does not need to be a bad thing or a fault of personality, or that it makes you a bad person. He was a weak and good man. Paddy Constantine did not play a character, he created a fully realized person that we could have very well known for real.
When Viserys walked to the throne it seemed as though time stood still and all realized that within this otherwise unremarkable king was a true dragon. I wept.
As a daughter the scene where Viserys goes against even his own body to protect his daughter hit me hard. I assume as a father it most hit the same way. I didn't stop crying from that moment on
It's sad to think that Visery's last memory was believing that his family had reconciled and mended their rift, not knowing a civil war would tear them apart. He died thinking that he had rescued the realm.
If only he had died sat at the dinner table. He'd never had told the prophecy to Alicent and him peacefully passing away at the table would have prevented the pig incident with Aemond
@@KhanSaab-pi6swalso, the greens wouldn't have crowned Aegon behind Rhaenyra's back. She'd be right there, Alicent had said minutes before that she'd be a great queen. But oh well, I believe by then it was already too late for them all. Tensions were too high
Viserys’ entrance and walk to the throne is the best and most powerful scene I’ve watched in anything for some time. Even rewatching it in your reaction got me in the emotions again… Unbelievable.
Daemon loves his family wholeheartedly, he just struggles to show it sometimes. Such a powerful and emotional moment when he helped Viserys to the throne ❤️
Very remarkable subtle symbolism that's kinda easy to miss: almost every time Viserys was onscreen this episode, Rhaenyra, Daemon and their family were on his left side (the healthy side of his face with an eye remaining) and Otto, Alicent and her family were on his right side (the rotting side of his face missing an eye) with the only exceptions of when he was laying on his stomach and Otto was on his left side but once he was sitting up straight Otto was then on his right side, and while he was walking to the throne Alicent was on his left side. But whenever he was laying in bed, sitting on the throne or sitting at the dinner table, that was the case.
This episode made me shed tears for Viserys. It was easily one of the top 3 episodes so far (maybe the best). I proudly rate it 10/10 (a first for me with respect to HotD episodes). I nearly fell out of my chair watching poor Viserys show up to defend his daughter. Emmy nominee right here.
Daemon went "The more you fuck around & The more you find out" I have no words for Paddy Considine's acting. I didn't like Viserys in the books, but he gave him a soul in the show. If he doesn't win the Emmy, im gonna get it for him myself.
25:42 The power of this moment. This is truly all that Daemon ever wanted: to be needed by his older brother & to help/support him when he is "weak". Think back to episode 1 where Daemon tells Viserys that he's weak & he sees people taking advantage of him & Daemon would be a strong right hand to help him & keep the Targaryen name/bloodline strong. Despite everything, good/bad that has happened, Daemon always loved & respected Viserys. Set up. Pay off. In a big impactful way. I was already cheering & teary-eyed when Viserys walked in...but this moment with Daemon...my heart 😭💞!
"25:42 The power of this moment. This is truly all that Daemon ever wanted: to be needed by his older brother & to help/support him when he is "weak"." The power of that moment made me weep.
Not gonna lie the moment when they were at dinner and it seemed everyone put aside there differences, and having viserys find peace, if only for a moment made me shed a tear bc he really does mean every word he said about loving them all
I am a full grown guy and my eyes were full of tears Viserys walking and climbing upto throne for love of his daughter Rhaenyra was very emotional and those background music fueled the lacrimal glands of my eyes
Viserys wasn’t the best king, but he had a good heart and didn’t let power corrupt his soul. A lot of show watchers call him weak for his difficulty in making tough calls, and avoiding confrontation. But as much as we’d like to imagine ourselves as a badass warrior ruler or a politically savvy leader, I feel like many of us would be a Viserys.
He's a great character but he's also an idiot. Shouldn't take a rocket scientist to realize 🤔 Alicent was merely a chess move from Otto. She was sent to comfort him to him the same night his wife died lol.
@@sparkzmentalz2 I see your point, but I still don’t think that makes him an idiot, just far too trusting and not suited for politics. He’s known Otto for years, and Otto had been Hand of the King even before Viserys even started his rule. He truly believes Otto has the crown’s best interests in mind. It’s easy for us to see it from the outside looking in, but not for the characters within the story.
Viserys walking up to the throne in so much pain to defend his daughter beautifully mirrors Rhaenyra escorting newborn Joffrey to Alicent herself after just giving birth. These two love their children above everything else and will defend them to the death.
The throne room scene made me so emotional. Viserys walking to his throne showed how strong he was and showed how much he loved his daughter. His brother helping him was so touching. This episode was hard to watch for many reasons. My emotions were all over the place lol 😅
The star is a symbol of the Faith of the Seven, of whose biggest patrons are the house Hightower. The faith and house Hightower are very intertwined and very supportive of each other. Hence the stars everywhere
Truly hate how they've handled this Aegon in the show. In the books there's really nothing that states he does anything close to rape. And his cruel side is only shown after the brutality of the acts people commit during the way. Reducing him to he's bad just cos is really stupid.
Despite being in such pain. He had one final walk to the throne, and the person who encouraged him during his final steps was his brother ❤❤❤ literally had me in tears
The star is the faith of the seven . Think about it as this if when you left your palace there were these dragon things on the walls and it’s a bustling house of power with ppl everywhere and when you came back their were crosses everywhere and the place feels like a monastery
I think you could clearly see how Aemma, Rhaenyra, Daemon and Rhaenys are really Vyserys' family. Not that he doesnt love aegon and aemond but then he said "my only child" to Rhaenyra, I mean, even for him it was clear that those were the people that would always have each others back, not the hightowers.
I LOVE THAT Daemon was like "say it" as if he is waiting to kill him in any moment. Also I don't know if it's just me, but Daemon killing Vaemond after Vaemond calling Rheanyra "whore", is kinda romantic lol.
Daemon taunted Vaemond to say it, so that he could kill him. I guess Daemon was sick of listening to his insults towards his wife and step-sons, as well as attempting to slight his daughters of their inheritance as well. Viserys made it clear that Rhaenys was the one who mattered not Vaemond. That made him angry as well. Oh well, he's dead now. NEXT????
Rhaenyra didn’t suggest or say for Aemon to be tortured. She said he should be questioned harshly. That is not implying torture. After she said that, the King questioned him and Aegon sharply as she suggested. It’s definitely not implied to be torture…
For anyone who missed it the strong boy luke was laughing at aemond upon the pink dread bullying prank when the pig was served without showing any remorse for taking his eye. He asked for that insult. Good one aemond, even daemon enjoyed that one lol
Yeah lol. I think it's funny that when the Strong boys bully the Targerayans it's all good but if the Targerayan boys tell the truth they get punished.
@@Wallawallawee doesn't matter, all of them were involved. Luke should've atleast felt sorry and have the courtesy to not laugh at his face. He lost atleast 30% of his vision
Alicent knew damn well that Viserys wasn't talking about their Aegon, Viserys has been talking out of his mind for a while and we know that because in last week's episode he called her by his first wife's name. Alicent just wanted to believe he was talking about Aegon being King.
No. Viserys was talking about "the conqueror's dream", but Alicent would obviously confuse this with his own dream (from his admission during the hunt when he was drunk). He said he dreamed of a son born to him wearing the conquerors crown. This is an old conflict that Alicent is very aware of. Most viewers forget that.
Why everyone hate Alicent? What wrong has she done? Daemon killed his first wife. Celebrated his nephew's death. Rhaenyra had child with with someone not her husband and then tries gaslighting whole realm in believing it's not that. I know she had an arrangement with her husband and they tried, still if she is proud of her children why not name them correctly and accept their parentage. But somehow Alicent is bad. And what wrong Aemond did, he took a dragon. Dragons are not passed by parent to child. Before Laena ,Vagar was Visery's father's. Aemond got his eye sliced for doing nothing wrong and speaking truth. Vaemond got decapitated because he didn't want his family line to end. Velaryons have been removed completely.
The actor who’s playing the older Aemond is also in The Last Kingdom, won’t say more just in case if you guys haven’t been introduced to his character yet. It gave us goosebumps when King Viserys was introduced & made his walk to his thrown! Paddy Considine did an excellent job as the King 👑 May he RIP! This episode was great, team Black all the way.
Viserys probably is the purest man in the history of westeros to this point. "For the sake of this old man who loves you All so dearly" Paddy considine touched the likes of Brando and Daniel Day Lewis in this episode
The mask Viserys wears is such a brilliant homage to Baldwin IV, the legendary Crusader King of Jerusalem. He’s also sometimes known as ‘The Leper King’ for his disfiguring ailment. He was also one of the finest men to ever walk the earth!! I implore anyone that doesn’t known of this man to look him up!!
@@ciriladewilanch6335 You got that right. The only reason why Saladin didnt attack Jerusalem while he was still alive was because of his respect and admiration of him.
If any parts of the soundtrack sound average or underdeveloped, that’s only because Ramin had to devote all his time and energy into making sure Viserys crossing the throne room sounded as epic and heartfelt as was humanly possible.
I wish he would have given this show music a little more personality. All I recognizes is the one when Rhaenyra and Damon arrived at King's Landing that had been used as well when Rhaenyra had followed Daemon in the catacombs. He should use this one more often.
I cried during some of the scenes, my dad died 5 years ago and i could relate to rheanera in some way.... what a powerfull emotional episode, the acting, the dialogues, the plot.. one of the best episodes of the house of the dragon/ game of thrones saga..
Can’t believe you hate Alicent so much you cut out the whole Dyana scene where for once they were actually showing how human she is and her true feelings. (Also Emmy level acting, again, by Olivia Cooke.)
Only so much time is allowed in these videos for the episodes. In the grand scheme of the episode, was too long to keep. And Nikki isn’t the one editing these and I’ve been very clear about not hating her.
Jace really put every fiber of his being into that punch and Aemond barely flinched, didn't even spill his wine, smiled and shoved that boy off like a bug. Aemond is a beast.
Two things that were not in the script was when Daemon picked up the crown to replace it on Viserys"s head. The crown fell by accident, but they just kept it rolling. The other part was Viserys's last words, "My Love (Queen Aemma)" Paddy Considine put that in there. He didn't think they'd keep it, but was pleasantly surprised that they did.
By now Rhaenyra's position is sunk, largely due to her own recklessness, hooking up with Daemon in the brothel, having bastard children with Harwin Strong, losing allies with her impoliteness and immodesty, and finally marrying her uncle just after his husband death, which overshadows her claim to the throne, her only remaining ally in court is his dying father. The Greens have shown a diplomacy and political savvy that the Blacks completely lack, they have the court and almost half of Westeros on their side as they have Andal law and customs on their side, and they're getting even stronger, thanks to the inexhaustible supply of slanderous propaganda Rhaenyra is feeding them. I'm team Rhaenyra, but man, she and Daemon have done so many political blunders that they make Cersei and Robert Baratheon look smart.
Viserys' entrance and pained walk to the throne, with Daemon helping him at the end and placing his crown back on his head, is an absolute top 10, if not top 5, moment for the _entire franchise._
I’m actually in sheer bloody awe of the quality of this show!! Acting, dialogue, costumes, directing, production values!! It’s all amazing!! This show is my addiction!!
paddy ( king viserys )is the best actor in the show period my god the acting and writing in house of the dragon makes rings of power look like a parody
This episode makes me sad that we never got more of Viserys and Daemon. Most of their scenes together is Viserys being annoyed at Daemon for doing something infuriating. I wish we saw more of the brotherly love between them like these scenes and when they were drinking in the garden together. I love Aemond. He's basically a younger version of Daemon. His "three strong boys" really reminds me of Daemon's "heir for a day" comment. It's also crazy to think that entire reason the dance of dragons happens is because Viserys thought he was talking to Rhaenyra and Alicent interprets his "prince that was promised" comment to refer to Aegon. It comes back to his dream of having his son on the throne which Alicent knows about.
I think Daemon realized it too this episode. He spent all this time dodging Viserys because of his pride but now seeing the state his brother is in he realizes he's wasted his time.
@@unc54 I may be reading into it too much, the scene where Daemon and Rhaenyra are seeing him in bed, Daemon wouldn't look at his brother. He would look up and then back down at his legs up until the point of talking about the succession.
@@viktorstagnetti7491 Agreed. I feel like him seeing his brother in such a feeble state got to him, but at the same time, he has a mean poker face, so we can never really tell.
This episode hit really hard because Viserys was basically a copy of my grandfather in his final months. He had Parkinson's and dementia. The show runners did a great job at portraying the suffering of a basically paralyzed old person, slowly withering away 😢
Im 100% sure Viserys was dragon dreaming on his death bed. He could see Jon “it is you, you are the one” he then started crying “no more” he saw the dance of dragons and his family slaughtering each other. Then “my love” he saw his first wife again.
Paddy Considine deserves an emmy for this episode. Viserys is such a boss in this one. So true to himself. I actually cried as he made his way to the throne.
Paddy brought the beast of his character. I love how his character alters and develops literally after each episode. This one was the epitome of his character.
Its Luke’s fault. Little bastard was laughing at Aemond and the pink dread. Aemond couldn’t take that shit from him because he also blinded him. Too many slights against him. He had to say something.
Curiously, Aemond lost control after Luceris and his future wife started laughing at him. Why? Because Aemond was given a pig (a reference to the fact that in childhood, instead of a dragon, the bastards brought him a pig). Well, they created the beast themselves. 💚
Man Viserys actor is so good, even when the crown fell off his head which was an accident he stayed in character and they ended up using it for this scene. I hope he gets all the awards.
I believe this is only the 2nd time in 16 years that Daemon and Aemond have ever met. The first time was in Driftmark. For folks who like the Jon Snow/Robb Stark good boy types, watch for Jace.
I don't know if you caught it, but Aemond was being served a pig and that is when Lucerys started laughing at him which riled up Aemond. Such a cool detail.
A powerhouse performanced by Paddy - Viserys walking into the throne room was one of the best scenes in GOT ever. He led with love and tolerance and it's going to be a dark time without him. Luke laughing when the roast pig was set next to Aemond...oh my god! The guy has the biggest dragon around and still can't get respect! Aemond seems to be fascinated by the chaos Daemon is able to get away with though. He's processing that I imagine.

Daemon realized in the courtroom that his brother is not weak, he is actually much stronger than he ever was. Vyserys was a very decent king, he deserves more credit

As a note for the both of you:

Viserys’ entrance and walk to the throne is the best and most powerful scene I’ve watched in anything for some time. Even rewatching it in your reaction got me in the emotions again… Unbelievable.
Most powerful scene since Tyrion's speech in court

Daemon taunted Vaemond to say it, so that he could kill him. Ya she is smart enough to know he was on milk of the poppy and deathbed. But delusional.
She heard what she wanted to hear.
@aedryk I thought he had a kind of premonitory dream about Aegon Targaryen aka Jon Snow, the prince who joined the north

This episode in particular is directed by a WOC and it made a huge difference! Less exposition in this episode and more emotion than most
By now Rhaenyra's position is sunk, largely due to her own recklessness, hooking up with Daemon in the brothel, having bastard children with Harwin Strong, losing allies with her impoliteness and immodesty, and finally marrying her uncle just after his husband death, which overshadows her claim to the throne, her only remaining ally in court is his dying father.

But it was cruelty, to be fair, spear headed by his own brother Aegon, don’t think it was Jace
@@bluegypsy71 It was Aegon's idea but they were all in on it obviously. I think it was Luce who went to the dragon pit and brought the pig with him.
"He can keep his tongue." I literally stood up when that happened. I love Daemon
Man I appreciate how quick y’all are with the uploads. Especially after an episode like this
I don't know if you caught it, but Aemond was being served a pig and that is when Lucerys started laughing at him which riled up Aemond. Such a cool detail.
Paddy did an amazing job as the King. His acting chops were phenomenal in this episode. Bravo to him.
I think it was Luke but yeah amazing subtle humour
