NIGHTMARE at Vanlife Festival '22 - Stratford Upon Avon

- It's Summer Festival season and this week, we were at the brand new 'Vanlife Festival', held at the Stratford-Upon-Avon Racecourse.
This was one hell of a BIG show with more campervans, motorhomes and trucks than you could even get round to seeing.
Although the show was an awesome success, it wasn't without its nightmare for us personally as our leisure batteries went and got fried and died!
With rapidly depleting power, the vanlife community came together to help us out.
Camping was available from the week before so we took full advantage and stayed the week with friends, both old and new.
Our off grid power set up, took a turn and failed us miserably when our old AGM batteries died & would take no further charge.
Fear not, as word spread, the community heard, helping hands arrived and ENERGY MONKEY offered to drop everything and see us at their warehouse/workshop an hour away as we left and travelled towards Cornwall.
With a new 'Victron Energy' Lithium Power set up installed, our travels were well and truly back on track for the Summer!

Nothing like this when myself and the loverly wife travelled all over Europe in our van some 30yrs ago.
"Van Life" was not a thing back then and we were able to park where we wanted all over Europe and the Uk with no bother. we had the awesome locations all to ourselves, beaches, view points, alpine meadows etc.
We still motorhome, however the attitude to van travellers has changed somewhat sadly.

Just remember you can't charge lithium in negative temperatures! Also with all the extra kit you really need, over a 10 year period of time you pay more than £300 for lithium with no real benefits other than weight. Oh, that is if the lithium's last 10 years. I just went through a customer's vehicle that the Lithium's lasted less than 1 and fail to charge and drop quicker than the comparitive L/A batteries... So, he's actually gone back to Lead Acid batteries.
I’d heard the temperature issue, but mines positioned in the heart of the inside van so I’m confident it’s nice & snuggly 🤞
Perhaps a toilet in the van in the design stage would help at the meeting.😉
We do have a toilet onboard 😉🙌

Really enjoyed Vanlife Festival, never ventured near Camp Creator other than walk by on the morning dog walk.
Saw some absolutely brilliant builds in the main Camping area.
Glad you got you 12v issue sorted, if my Lottery numbers come up I might follow your example.
There were some awesome vans throughout all areas of the festival right? We really enjoyed it too. Ahh man, the new Lithium set up is a game changer, well worth the money for the peace of mind & massive power boost! 👊🏼💪

VLF was so good, reminded me of how the VW events used to be years back. Nice to see No cashing in on a “scene” from Damo, many others should take note and follow his lead
I've had lead/acid leisure batteries for 6 years now and they're still perfect.
The (little known)secret is: always have a voltmeter and avoid letting it drop below 12.65 V (no load). That is the starting point for sulphating which will eventually kill the batteries.
Sounds like there are better ways to care for and maintain AGM’s but since I killed them anyway, the Lithium route has been a game changer in terms of convenience, control and all important weight saving….I couldn’t be happier with the outcome 🙌

Totally forgot to look you up on UA-cam to follow you both then randomly you popped up on a search. I was thinking I’ve met you lol. Anyway glad I’ve found your channel.
