your steps and the way you painted this painting was absolutely up there with the masters. You are an exquisite painter and I am sure you will be one of those people who will leave a mark in art! I have one comment- lately I have been reviewing the psychology of color and what appeals to the masses- in the present art market there is this trend of adding teal/slight lavender within the painting- especially the gold areas- very slight the way you did your painting. I say this because a masterpiece like this needs to be in a MANSION- or a villa type setting. I think most people that buy art have smaller walls or less. I believe what happens with these two colors I mention is they give a modern approach which can match a pillow or drap or a living room. I was actually going to try doing the steps of your painting (I will change the face b/c I hate copying other artists ( and I have a mantra now as an artist I HAVE TO SELL!) and I will try, to use the teal/slight lavender within the gold. I would love to hear your thoughts. I only comment b/c as I take something from an artist (knowledge, passion, style) I like to give something back! LOVE the painting! I have subscribed
@@olgaspathis8128 Thank you for the kind words and for connecting. My plan is to put inspirational, educative material out there but sometimes worry that it may be confusing. Hopefully over time I'll get better at simplifying concepts as I have great plans for the channel. Honestly the coleour I use all play a vital, vibrating role with one another (teal included). I actually don't use teal, but mix it myself based on temperature. Please use my concepts and practices them. It's a great achievement if I inspire others. Cheers
@@zr_fine_art yes i will use your methods and I will try to mix my own teal- I just find this whole business with teal is crazy, not sure why I just find more people buy items from me when teal is somehow incorporated.

Thank you for this fantastic video. I am very happy to find you. I am 88 and learning to paint. But I use acrylic. Can I use your technique? I am allergic to oils. One more time, thank you, and Blessings. My favorite Saint is Serafim Sarovsky..
Wow what a lovely comment. God bless you. It's I who's honoured to have you join us. Acrylics will behave differently than oils in many ways, but that does not mean that you can't experiment with them. However maybe it;s the solvents that you are allergic to as all oil colors are is pigment and an oil binder. Have you tried working with solvent free mediums or my favourite water soluable oils?
I love your work. It has a real wow factor. Please could you tell me where you bought the silicon paint brush . I also hate cleaning my many brushes at the end of a session !! Thank you for a wonderful video x
Thank you for the kind words. I should have probably mentioned the brand of the brushes. They are made by Princeton, but I can't find them any more. My supplier used to carry them here in Canada but no more. Maybe you'll have better luck finding them. Sorry
Great demo. I also dislike washing brushes at the end of a painting day and have tried leaving them soaking in oil or wrapping them and putting them in the freezer which I think is less wear and tear on the brushes. May I ask how do you clean your brayers?
@@t-daze Thank you. Brayers come in soft or hard rubber versions and you can wipe both off at the end of a session and give them a light wash with soap. During painting you can just roll excess paint onto a wet or dry towel. That should do the trick to not muddy subsequent paint applications. Hope that helps. Happy painting

Thanks a lot for the tutorial. I loved it. There are a lot of good oil paintings tutorial on youtube but not much for expressive works like this, especially using unconventional techniques or material. I think it s really rare to see this kind of tutorial. thanks a lot again. I have two questions: irst, what is the name of the tool you mentioned liking to use? (I’m not a native English speaker, so I didn’t catch the name.) Second, did you use a photo reference for this piece, or did you design it entirely on your own?
Thank you for the compliments. I'm new to youtube, but not to teaching. Hopefully I can express concisely my process. I enjoy it. The tools I've had and used forever and it's somewhat worn, but I believe the brand is Princeton. As far as the reference, I used a free stock image for the general features, but deveated from it quite alot. After all I wasn't after a likeness for this portrait, but for the 'expression'. Happy to connect. Cheers
