@@pearhat640 Easier said than done. It's practically a military state; and has been for over seventy years now. They rule with an iron fist, and countless people get locked up daily for openly speaking out against them. Now you might wonder why the people didn't try to overthrow such a tyrannical regime, well we tried. three times actually. the first time we almost lost the country to Islamic extremists (not too proud of that one), the second time the police opened fire on the protesters (some of the protesters were affiliated with said Islamic extremists, still that doesn't excuse opening fire on unarmed civilians), and the third time the protesters were all rounded up by the cops and locked up before it could turn into a full-blown revolution. Now if you have any suggestions as to how we can "change our government" we'd be happy to listen.

Check facts like: Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, and many more. And I’m not anti-government at all from any country. I’m letting you know that it’s like that everywhere excluding “military state”.
Another scam is if you are part of an all inclusive hotel deal, avoid anyone claiming to be from the hotel to show you round markets. As an American living in Cairo, my parents and I use taxis as our main formenu of transportation. They don't usually scam us but we have found that when you wear nicer clothing they are far more likely to scam you. They usually charge reasonable prices (except coming from the airport...) maybe it's apparent that we aren't just tourists. Most taxis have a meterrible so the best thing you can do is make sure that they turn it on and if they don't just felt out
I am egyptian and recomend that you are in a tour group, with a experienced friend or well known guides that are recomended by the locals and also take the small minivan cab things because they are way cheaper than the regular taxis
I never experienced the taxi scam while there but I did have people basically following me and my family at the pyramids constantly offering us souvenirs and acting as if we accepted so others thought we were stealing, I do strongly agree with having a local with you they’re way better at spotting scams.
I'm Egyptian and went to the pyramids with a bunch of Egyptian friends, and guess what, these stupid people followed us too just wanting money from us, but guess what, we ignored them, did what WE wanted to do, then left. They basically lost their time and effort for nothing. That's how they need to be handled.
I'm Egyptian and the I don't use Taxis myself I only ride uber, taxis are tight and i cant sit as you said they ask for much more for money. And a local is a good idea so you don't get scammed by fake things in Egypt and so u can communicate with them (hope this helps
I went to Egypt quite a few times for business trips, I hired local drivers, and almost all of them came to pick me up at the hotel late, they gave me unbelievable excuses for why they were late, I got so sick when I drank their pomegranate juice bought from the street, I was threatened by a supplier because his production did not meet our standard. It was quite an unforgettable experience.
Don't forget, Egypt is a failing economy. There are no human rights. So if you get scammed or even attacked in the streets, no one will help you. This is why when I went, I carried my hunting knife everywhere I went.
Being a 2 Meter man helps alot. Found a random guy on a pyramids tour also being 2meters and having tattoos all over his body. Been together the whole day and got no trouble at all 😂
Or just don't be a fool and believe everything. Like I'm Egyptian and been to Paris, London, Italy, Spain, also South East Asia, most people who fall for scams are just stupid and it's their own fault such as communicating with the scammer, or putting your wallet or sunglasses in your back pocket. Nothing ever happened to me. But maybe the fact of being Egyptian is what helped and I can sense it before it happens.
Isn't your government ashamed that the world sees your people as a bunch of scammers and beggars? Why don't they do something because tourism is a big part of your economy?

There are much worse scams than this in Egypt. A guy locked me and my mum in a shop because I refused to give him £40 for a bit of papyrus he had written my name in hieroglyphics on with a sharpie. In the end had to give him £10 just to get out of there. Perfume, jewelry and camel rides. Had to be on the look out for everything.

Pretty typical, this even happens in places like the Virgin Islands and all over the Caribbean. I'll tell you one thing then change their mind when you get there

The first one actually happened to my parents, they were at the pyramids on a tour and, you won't believe this, they offered a tour of an exclusive area, they were concerned but went anyways, once they're there the guy closes the gate and dosent speak English very well so he just say "money need money" my dad handed him I think like either a 20 or a 50 if you translate to American money, my dad's a pretty big guy so he just gave them this look like "don't ask for more" and they let him out
The prices just to enter the pryamid area for westerns are inflated. I went with a non egyptian Arab and he got a cheap price and mine was way more. I think mine was 200 egyt pounds and his was less but I can't remember the exact price.
Don't forget the camel ride scam. They will tell you there is a better area to see when you ride the camel. After they take you away from the public area they will ask for a lot more then the original price.

I am Egyptian and I really want to apologize for my country’s scams i just want to let you know that they do it purely out of need since our government is pretty horrible once again sorry
the people are responsible for their government.
thats not a justification. Change your government then, if not then its people again
If they can scam people they are smart enough to build legitimate businesses.
@@notthatguy9063 I guess involve American so you can have “democracy”. My goodness the victim mentality in you is absurd. Every government around the world is strict and is just like the Egyptians except they are covert about it. Now I understand why the Egyptian governments do what they do to their Egyptian citizens because you have that fantasy that getting out of egypt or involving other country’s like America is going to fix it only to make it worse.
They will likely arrange you to be taken to a "relatives" shop, where they will offer cheap deals which isn't really cheap, and you by are "obligated" to buy stuff to leave. They aren't from hotel, but recognise you from your all inclusive wristband.

As an Egyptian I hate scammers but if you Ask a local they are so kind chances are they will show you around to a lot of places
This happens to mostly non Egyptians sadly, this ruins the experience, so many nice people but so many scams too, i hope the government does something about it
We hired a private tour guide who also drove us everywhere for our trip. He was amazing and kept us safe the whole time! Highly recommend as it is not very expensive and well worth the money anyways
how much was it

Mexican here. Went to Egypt this past summer. Trust me, nothing prepares you for how BAD it is for tourists there. Went as a group and it was ROUGH everywhere.

Amazing country, nonetheless.
@@marianamaranon2840 I'm gonna be honest, this doesn't even sound fun
As an American living in Cairo, my parents and I use taxis as our main formenu of transportation. They don't usually scam us but we have found that when you wear nicer clothing they are far more likely to scam you. They usually charge reasonable prices (except coming from the airport...) maybe it's apparent that we aren't just tourists. Most taxis have a meterrible so the best thing you can do is make sure that they turn it on and if they don't just felt out
You must speak Arabic.
Why would you live in that shithole ?
Just use an Uber or didi
The meters work now? When I was last there not a single meter was working - they were all visibly broken.
You probably speak Arabic or the taxi driver thinks you're an poor immigrant and not a rich tourist
Here is a tip, don't go to Egypt unless you're an experienced traveler
thanks
Instructions unclear, I kidnapped a local for a shopping day
I am egyptian and recomend that you are in a tour group, with a experienced friend or well known guides that are recomended by the locals and also take the small minivan cab things because they are way cheaper than the regular taxis
Thank you ❤
Do you know the recommended local tour in egypt?
@@Sriwijaya888tbh no not rlly my dad was always the guy to get us around everywhere so we never really had any tour groups
I never experienced the taxi scam while there but I did have people basically following me and my family at the pyramids constantly offering us souvenirs and acting as if we accepted so others thought we were stealing, I do strongly agree with having a local with you they’re way better at spotting scams.
I would just tell everyone to Frick off
Yup they do that to tourists...
It helps a lot. Thank you. We just want to enjoy Egypt and have a good time there
As an expat living in Egypt, make sure taxis have their meter on!
Try and stay away from microbuses. Very unsafe.
Know your surroundings
Expat you say...a foreigner who lives in someone else's country. Yeah you're an immigrant my friend. That word doesn't only apply to brown people ok
Yeah haven't heard good things about how they treat foreigners.
Don't forget, Egypt is a failing economy. There are no human rights. So if you get scammed or even attacked in the streets, no one will help you. This is why when I went, I carried my hunting knife everywhere I went.
Yeah don't ever go back. The gulf countries are so much better.
Whenever a stranger anywhere comes up to you out of no where and offers you anything you did not ask for you walk away. Not just in Egypt.
All I got from this was that you should not trust the locals but when you want to go shopping you should trust a local
that's perfect! I feel the same way. don't trust the locals but take one with you! I'm so confused. makes me never want to travel
Video is talking about locals you know vs strangers
My parents went to Egypt this year to celebrate my mom's birthday, good thing my father is from Yemen cause they treat people from Yemen like locals.
From an Egyptian these are quite true would recommend being in a tour group
Isn't your government ashamed that the world sees your people as a bunch of scammers and beggars? Why don't they do something because tourism is a big part of your economy?
They scam in tour groups as well. The prices are inflated.
Had a friend who went there to visit family. He came back and said it seemed like everyone in the whole country was running some kind of scam. Wherever he went people tried to rip him off. Lol
True that

“Bring a local” yes cause I know so many Egyptians
Everything is fake on the markets. That’s why they are cheap, most taxis have metres or can ask for a price upfront and give it them. I’ve been Egypt I travelled and arrived as the Russian plane was bombed. We only went for a week and was stuck their for 2 weeks. Have so much respect for Egypt. Would definitely go back as soon as I can!
Just make sure to watch out for paintings on the ground when traveling, cuz that's literally like an EXTREMELY common scam people do.
That you step on them and have to pay for them?
There are much worse scams than this in Egypt. A guy locked me and my mum in a shop because I refused to give him £40 for a bit of papyrus he had written my name in hieroglyphics on with a sharpie. In the end had to give him £10 just to get out of there. Perfume, jewelry and camel rides. Had to be on the look out for everything.
Ty for protecting tourists
I have been living in Egypt for 7 years as a Brit.
I speak their dialect fluently and Arabic even better.
Taxis do it to natives as well. That price thing, common.
Pretty typical, this even happens in places like the Virgin Islands and all over the Caribbean. I'll tell you one thing then change their mind when you get there

The first one actually happened to my parents, they were at the pyramids on a tour and, you won't believe this, they offered a tour of an exclusive area, they were concerned but went anyways, once they're there the guy closes the gate and dosent speak English very well so he just say "money need money" my dad handed him I think like either a 20 or a 50 if you translate to American money, my dad's a pretty big guy so he just gave them this look like "don't ask for more" and they let him out
Man I’m sorry this happened to you. There’s bad and a good in everyone. We all humans. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I’m Egyptian and speak fluent Arabic but since I live in America I still am forced to take a cousin with me when going out in Egypt
Damn ... It's that bad ?
@@george4vIogging Usually I'd advise people who plan to tour Cairo to avoid bad neighborhoods, and not to act all "touristy" when walking down less crowded streets. Currently, though I'd advise you to avoid the country altogether. The country is going through an economic crisis, most of the population is starving, and crime rates are at an all-time high.
