I love that I can say I've visited the Leshan Buddha twice! One fascinating thing I learned about it is how the creators made sure that water wouldn't erode the statue away so quickly. They created a system of tubes for drainage in the mountainside behind the statue, which also sits away from the cliff face so the only water that can affect it is the rain. Fascinating stuff.
This statue (233ft) is taller than the statue on liberty island (151ft) if you don't count the pedestal the liberty island statue stands on (total 305ft)

Every statue in the region without exception is exquisitely carved and bears perfect resemblance to Buddha.
