@@danharold5055 Okay, check my logic on this one. The story takes place in 1835. Toy guns weren't produced on a factory scale until 1860. The most ubiquitous plastic wasn't invented until 1898 and plastics as a whole weren't commercialized until the 1960's. Back in 1835, toy guns would either exist as wooden or metal replicas, or they would be functionally broken guns to start with.
So, either the narrator is being unreliable or being unclear, both are very much possible.
Or we as the reader are to jump to the conclusion that James Anderson invented plastic 57 years before hand, gained enough knowledge and control over the substance to begin manufacturing it within 22 years, the point in which the narrator gets involved, and use that plastic to make firearms instead of using old gun and sheet metal like every other factory had started to use for toys in the 1860s, following the end of the Civil War.
I only locked on to the sentence "We found toy guns that shot real bullets," because contextually it doesn't make a whole lot of sense in the timeline. Toy guns would not exist as they do today. The only thing that made a toy gun a "toy gun" back then was the fact that it didn't have the proper mechanisms to fire bullets. So when you add the mechanism back in, you've not made a child's toy gun, you've made a gun that is fit for a child's hand.

I'm willing to believe this is actually SCP-001. It was the start of the SCP foundation and it's secrecy is understandable due to the linked past with O5-1.

I imagined parts of the real SCP-001 were strewn across some of the handed in SCP-001 documents, that if you connected the right dots, you'd be able to identify SCP-001's true nature
I mean, it's a stretch, but essentially ALL the 001s could be true. I mean, the Gate Guardian, Factory, Good Boy, Day Breaking, Scarlet King and O5-13 could all fit in the same timeline. Ouroboros and Consensus are a little iffy to put together, but COULD if you were willing to get creative.
