      The thing with this approach is that it works until it doesn't. And when it doesn't it is catastrophic. Sometimes (actually a lot of the time) the difference between the overnight admission in the hospital and an extended hospital stay is just a few hours, for example, after an appendix perforation, a mean lag of incidence to presentation of ~11.6 hours is the difference between an overnight stay and about a week of stay in the hospital. And this is one of the more tame examples. Don't even get me started on how just several hours in cases of acute ischemia, can be the difference between returning home to your previous life as normal, or having to adjust to life with a missing limb.
      I am not saying you should go to the doctor for every little thing, but ignoring something that is clearly wrong is terrible terrible advice. Yes I understand that being in the US complicates this a lot. But if in a vacuum, with nationality out of the equation, just "man up" usually leads to a "man down" situation.

      Remember the taste she described? I think the infection of her tooth might have already spread and caused an abscess in her palate, in which case boy oh boy is she lucky she didn't wait any longer to get it taken care of. I think she was tasting puss. I know that taste from when I lanced an abscess in my gumline near a broken tooth once. Had to manage it myself until the appointment for oral surgery.

    • @Mosamania
      @Mosamania Рік тому +16

      Neither of you are correct, the dentist fucked up the injection and caused the mucosal palate to separate from the roof of the mouth, causing it not to get blood, causing it to become necrotic. The "allergic reaction" comment by the other doctor is just a way to shift blame and protect his homie by gaslighting Pippa into thinking it was an allergic reaction, so next time if she needs it she will say she is allergic and will not get a proper anaesthesia and will be in pain. Pretty scummy if you ask me.
      Edit: Also infection don't "spread" like that. Usually the only place an oral infection spreads to is the heart, causing something called an "Endocarditis". It doesn't spread adjacent, because that's not how infections work.

    I hope she deals with this ASAP. Necrosis is no laughing matter; that shit is seriously dangerous if left untreated.

  • @Mosamania
    @Mosamania Рік тому +21

    That was palatal mucosal necrosis, and it was not an allergic reaction. That was a lie to avoid any malpractice lawsuits. Basically the original dentist put a lot of pressure from the liquid that is the local anaesthetic that caused the area which is very thin to be under a lot of pressure, so the blood circulation unable to go against that pressure, meant that area did not get any blood for some time, which eventually lead to necrosis.
    Usually it will slough off on its own, provided she continues to take her ABx and no super-infection develops (Super-infection in this instance means predominance of an antibiotic resistance bacteria) and it will slowly heal on its own.
    Disclaimer: I am not a dentist, I am just a surgeon, but I know enough to know this at least.
    Edit: @Low Effort Clips, if you have a way to contact Pippa just at least let her know that she is not really allergic to local anaesthetic.

  • @johnbaker7322
    @johnbaker7322 Рік тому +48

    I really hope she gets back into contact with the dentist that gave her the anesthetic that she thinks caused the necrosis. She needs to have that stuff on her list of allergies so she isn't given it again. Maybe they should test for it as well just to confirm but definitely needs to talk to them and maybe even let them see it before it heals and they can't ID it.

    • @Mosamania
      @Mosamania Рік тому +16

      She's not allergic, the dentist fucked up the injection. Causing a lot of pressure to build in that area and so no blood could circulate there leading to the necrosis. It would be extremely scummy to let her go on believing that she has an allergic reaction to a very important and vital medication such as lidocaine her whole life based on a false premises.

    Went to the dentist and they managed to save it with a filling.
    Thank you Pippa and thank you Low Effort Clips!

    I too know what its like to be scarred by the dental profession. When I was a child my mother would take me to a particular dentist who believed that administering novacaine to children would cause adverse effects and stunt their growth, so he refused to use the numbing agent when doing dental work. His workaround was giant leather straps like something you would see in a horror movie. He would strap me in the dental chair so I couldnt move and remove/drill teeth bare. It got to the point where I would go white knuckle in any dentist chair, I would hyperventilate and have panic attacks. People would look at me odd and be like "its just a cleaning, relax." Even bit a few dentists as well when my mouth would snap shut on their fingers.

      they can try to numb the nerve fibers connecting to the tooth instead of injecting it to the gums next to the teeth though. it's a different technique and it numbs a bigger area, but it works around the issue of local infections.

    Pippa, please, do mention the pain. Always mention the pain. Doctors have no idea what's going on our bodies unless we tell them. Exams may tell A, and the doctor may think: "oh, that's not so bad" and let us go, but if we say "I am f* dying here, please, give me something for the pain", they will treat you on the spot or, at least, give you proper anesthetics. These people are under the Hippocratic oath.
    PS: Human bodies (& our nervous systems) are different, pain that may be tolerable to some, may be excruciating to others.
