@JediFlavored Soap Nice ideas. It's that smile itself that I have trouble reconciling with the rest of his character given EVERYTHING else we've been shown about his character. That smile came from left field; absolutely incongruent with his ostensible character. Had they planted a seed earlier in the movie there would've been much more of a payoff. Like had the counselors said at the outset: "This Ordeal has been known to bring out sociopaths in hiding." Or something to that effect, then we would've suspected that the Dick kid was the Sociopath/ Psychopath but then the smile at the end would have let us know that our "protagonist" was the Socio/Psychopath all along. That, to me, would have been more satisfying. It's the film's job to lay out ALL the clues so that a twist ending makes sense. If they don't that's just bad storytelling.

The thought-sharing with the other guys becomes an attempt from the character to make the others doubt so they give up quicker. The shovel hit after taunting the dude is a way to eliminate a challenger. The intrusion in the office to save his friends becomes just an attempt from him to learn more on the test so he can win (notice how he is more interested in the documents than looking for his friend? + it is not shown what he learns exactly ). Him going backwards to the house after evading the guardians instead of just saving his ass means he gueninely wants to stay in until he wins. Very interesting film.

It's about how society rewards violence and punishes being good, kind, and compassionate. Organizations like this, the military, etc. claim to create a better world, and yet, the reality is that they only cause death, destruction, despair, and create monsters out of good people. Bravo! Fantastic film! I would KILL to act in one of these shorts!
This is a dumb comment. As if we qrent taught to share or use our manners. If society punishes good then why haven't I been taught differently to conform. The military is very needed for you to be free. They fight the people that aren't taught the same morals as you and me are expected to have. And those people have to put their lives and sanity on the line for us. Thats why it's such a tremendous honor to serve your country. You live in a delusional world if your comment reflects your actual thoughts on the world.
Yes I do agree with you. Many private organizations and the military to take resources from many countries such as being in war with Iraq and Afghanistan for such terrible and selfish reasons.

Or! A lot of those "children" what you really mean is young adults. Have wanted to be in the military since they could put sentences together. They feel it's in their blood but not only in their blood but also part of their duty to their country. Don't twist the military into something evil.

So, hold the phone... This "ordeal" as you call it, consists of, at least what seems to me: going for a run. chopping wood, digging some dirt, pushups, camping and uh... walking on a tastefully lit hiking path through the woods? Does that sound accurate?
@@patrickmisrabl9634 Yeah, when I was in scouts we always joked about the Order of the Arrow being some sinister cult initiation. Pretty clear that's what this film is riffing off of. The reality of it was pretty tame.
Think about it this way, it’s a hypnotic camp. The kid was starving to death with little to no food a day meaning for just that he’s mentally weak. He works labor all day. And where we saw his first push was when he hit the kid with the shovel. The second was killing Dustin, even if it was a accident. From there his mind would be extremely weak to any sort of hypnoction. And that last video is what hypnotized him.
@@theboredboar3641 - Don't be ridiculous. What parent would sign a waiver saying there's a 66% chance their child will die or be maimed? And if they lie, it wouldn't take two two deaths for there to be a lawsuit.
I think their parents already know what's going to happen. Both Jackson and Dustin say that their dads have already done the camp before. I'm guessing everyone's parents takes a gamble for their son to also get into the order. But Jackson's dad probably broke the rules and already told him only the last man standing would get in. Jackson plays everyone then wins, hence the smirk at the end
"Yeah hi, um...so your son...yeah he's not coming home. Yeah, he didn't have the necessary survival skills. What do you mean you thought this was a regular camp?"
SPOILER WARNING YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED The point I would like to make is that I think that through the entire short there were quite a few hints that the kid wasn't all right. He himself says that he wasn't selected for his abilities. He seems however to be a skilled fighter, determined and quite hot headed. When he escalates the situation with the ultra darwinistic scumbag it's the first time we see him doing something vicious - but the thought to spare his food never occurs to him - he just wants to split the bar into rations. He doesn't seem to follow rules (starts speaking) and he was ready to kill to protect his life. Now - I am gonna lean myself out of s window and say that his concern was more his own safty than the one of anyone else - while he first screams, after watching the video and realizing that he is 'safe' he smiles, which is of cause also the big revelation. All of this hints at the setup being very intentional. You take 'promising' people - one could also say ruthless and cold hearted psychopaths into a hungergame esque situation, put them under enourmous stress and see who survives and then recruits the last man standing.
I was really hoping for some supernatural twist at the end. Like some vampire or werewolf plot... Instead, all I have is more questions and an unfulfilling smirk. =\
At 1:08 Scouts Founder David Matthews is talking about a "duty to King and Country." Is that just a cliched expression or an early clue that this film is set in a very twisted alternate version of our Universe? I take the fact that the "Scouting Federation of America" was founded in 1953 and that Mr. Matthews founded it "28 years ago," making the setting of this film in 1981 another such clue. I guess I will find out.

I’m appart of accrual scouting Bsa and for the order of the arrow (during the ordeal) we fast for 1 day, take a vow of ailments, and do service for the community without expecting pay. I've seen otherwise good Stories or Plot lines basically ruined because of sub-par special effects and or props .
Theres a program in the Boy Scouts called the OA a.k.a the Order of the Arrow, and ngl it sounds hella like this, I went through they ordeal and its only for one day not for a week
@benjovi55 Spoilers: The "Order" needs ruthless people who will do anything, can't do that with a conscience. For this, they set up a camp for weeding out sociopaths, and once they feel they've found them, they send them to the final test. Each of the boys at the camp was a sociopath, all trying not only to make their way through the trials, but also trying to APPEAR like they were normal. They were thought to have little in common, but that's because they were all hiding their one commonality. When the winner won, it showed us that everything before was him faking it- he didn't "accidentally" kill anyone, he killed two kids on purpose. Only once he realized what company he was truly in did he drop his disguise.
@@AvgJoeCrowe Ya, except why would he save half the bar or try to get to know Dustin? I mean the ending isn't terrible, but there's no build up to his sudden turn. There are only a few scenes in this, so the scenes where he seems to care need to be able to be re-contextualized as a 'smart' move for a killer, but honestly they really don't. The huge investment he made to help and make an ally out of the other scout wasn't worth it strategically. He was too controlled and passive in the fight for food to be an obvious psychopath. He profusely apologizes to someone he just stabbed as if it was an accident, but if the plan was to kill them preferably before they could even say who did it, why? Even in conversations he always talked about things being 'strange' or non-scout-like rather than dangerous or outside the trainees' interests. Even if you consider all these moves as attempt to get information, cover his tracks/mentality, and make useful and expendable 'friends', the extremely personal and empathetic way he accomplishes these goals would be very uncharacteristic of someone who can kill so easily. Perhaps such people exist, but with so much time spent on this character away from judging eyes it seems weird to not show any of these tendencies. The filmmakers may try to do this by having him search through the files instead of continue to look for Dustin, but with him nowhere to be found and likely killed or sent home by that point I would likely read any information I found as well. Personally, if I wanted to hint at the ending without giving it away, I'd show him finishing off the bar before talking to the other scout while digging the latrine, or offer it to him to make a distraction. In some way, show he no longer was saving it for Dustin because as we later learn, Dustin was no longer useful to him. Next, I would have him actually have killed the guy with that shovel swing, so that they had to go and find him. Finally I would cut away right as he turns to stab his 'friend' that we think is a scoutmaster and do a short time-skip to the scoutmaster's arriving while he apologizes to them for the 'accidental' murder. Honestly, we just see too much that doesn't fit for this otherwise quality story to carry off that chilling but completely nonsensical ending.
@@enjohneering9673 he didn't give up the bar for "getting to know" the other guy... he almost ate it whole himself (selfishness a trait of sociopaths), but realized that this may out him. Instead, he used it as a tool to "blend in" a bit better, something real sociopaths do all the time, feign altruism.
@@AvgJoeCrowe joseph. STOP. please stop trying to make this short something it's not. EVERYTHING IS BAD about the film. the writing the acting the plot, the timing...it's really not good. all u have to do is look at the other omeletto films for comparison. each of the boys were not sociopaths. do u even know what a sociopath is? the kid who got knifed was anything but a sociopath. the only kid who could possibly get the label was the guy who got the shovel in the face, but even he fails the sociopath test because he attempts to REASON with his desire for being in the order. true sociopaths would NEVER, EVER do this. a sociopath wants to gratify his OWN goals, and they never attempt to critically analyze why. they don't care and lack the ability to care why. he was unexpectedly inducted into americas next top camp buddy, and did not know why like the rest of them. a sociopath is not interested in this because sociopaths thrive from their own goals centered around self. your whole summary is so elementary and shows u know little to nothing about film in general.

the SMILE in the end was the best horror part. It was all about what this F****ing world wants from the new Generation. Well done.
Their souls.....
To become monster to protect this weak world. Or destroy it , it their choice now
It's about how society rewards violence and punishes being good, kind, and compassionate.
You live in a delusional world if your comment reflects your actual thoughts on the world.
you wouldnt be alive if it wasnt for those men fighting for you idio
Yes I do agree with you. Many private organizations and the military to take resources from many countries such as being in war with Iraq and Afghanistan for such terrible and selfish reasons.
Yes, yes you would
@@goldfishie9210 "The military is very needed for you to be free." hahahaha omg how can you people be so brainwashed. astonishing
Mr.Cunningham, Mr.Willis, Absolutely riveting, And the casting spot on. Thank You all for the experience. New top of my watch list. Peace.
He doesn’t deserve all that FOOD!
yeah! all that one bar of chocolate.
What would YOU do for a Klondike Bar?
@@Activated_Complex Oh I used to love those commercials😂it's a shame I don't see them anymore, they were hilarious!!Lol😆 oh great now I want a Klondike bar

It's a special blend, made from other scouts.
The smirk was the icing on the cake. Greed and power took over moral judgment.
What? I think you misunderstood. He was never moral to begin with.
Agree! Masterpiece!
He should become POTUS.
When they said ‘nothing is what it seems’ they really meant it...
Thoroughly enjoyed. The actors have a bright career ahead of them.
Especially the grand master scout guy in the video.
A long future to look forward to!
This video: you will be isolated and sleep alone
Schizophrenics: that’s where you’re wrong kiddo
I think they confused the terms "Boy scouts" and "Battle Royale"
Bruh😁 "What are you doing? He needs help. I don't need help!"
That was by far the best line of this film
Its frightening to see what sadly many armies already know, children can be coerced into excellent soldiers. Terrifying!
Oh, it's just a story- surely it couldn't happen here :s
Or! A lot of those "children" what you really mean is young adults. Have wanted to be in the military since they could put sentences together. They feel it's in their blood but not only in their blood but also part of their duty to their country. Don't twist the military into something evil.
what if they country is doing wrong things like germans on ww2
Forced conscription of minors is nothing like this
13:09 *When you try to act tough but don't realize you're shorter than the guy you're yelling at until you're already too close. Now you don't seem so tough. Lmao.*
I was thinking the exact same thing during this scene!! Lol
That's when you pull out the stick...
Yeah the ending is a little bit forced. The change is not credible.
Well he did smash someone with a shovel too
Damn, how horrible. Can't tell if he was trying to act scared/curious the whole time or if what happened at the end was some bs or something in his mind switched or what but that really sucks. Also would there be no repercussions for what happened or
Who would know?
clray123 what??
Jonavin Thao or what??
Another short that should have been a whole movie. I've binge watched so many of these ..love em
I felt bad for Jackson. He seemed to genuinely care about Dustin so accidentally stabbing him must've been heart wrenching.
Part 2 plz I was extremely well made. Llike for part 2✌👍
what? you're extremely well made?
@@biku3628 self streem is everything
I don't know? Should I. You didn't even spell "It" right
There will be no part 2. It's all over!
Dislike for part 3
This should straight be a series on Netflix, love the concept
Why can't you accept this as a one-off piece of work? It is so common here for people to want a series, a feature film, a different ending.
I got super scared for them when the two boys started talking to each other and breaking the rules
When the scoutmaster said energy bar I swear I thought he was unzipping his trousers
So, hold the phone... This "ordeal" as you call it, consists of, at least what seems to me: going for a run. chopping wood, digging some dirt, pushups, camping and uh... walking on a tastefully lit hiking path through the woods? Does that sound accurate?
Well they fought and he killed both of them. So add that to the list and it sounds like quite a dandy day.
You forgot killing your opponents
Most of those sound like the actual Order of the Arrow Ordeal
@@patrickmisrabl9634 Yeah, when I was in scouts we always joked about the Order of the Arrow being some sinister cult initiation. Pretty clear that's what this film is riffing off of.
The reality of it was pretty tame.
You forgot murder
Think about it this way, it’s a hypnotic camp. The kid was starving to death with little to no food a day meaning for just that he’s mentally weak. He works labor all day. And where we saw his first push was when he hit the kid with the shovel. The second was killing Dustin, even if it was a accident. From there his mind would be extremely weak to any sort of hypnoction. And that last video is what hypnotized him.
Are 2/3 of the candidates always killed or badly injured? Wouldn't that be a bit difficult to explain to the parents?
Silkendrum probably a waiver saying what might happen
@@theboredboar3641 - Don't be ridiculous. What parent would sign a waiver saying there's a 66% chance their child will die or be maimed? And if they lie, it wouldn't take two two deaths for there to be a lawsuit.
It’s a magical waiver
I think their parents already know what's going to happen. Both Jackson and Dustin say that their dads have already done the camp before. I'm guessing everyone's parents takes a gamble for their son to also get into the order. But Jackson's dad probably broke the rules and already told him only the last man standing would get in. Jackson plays everyone then wins, hence the smirk at the end
"Yeah hi, um...so your son...yeah he's not coming home. Yeah, he didn't have the necessary survival skills. What do you mean you thought this was a regular camp?"
“He doesn’t deserve all that food...” that tiny protein bar???
That was a plot twist and a half, that little smile at the end wow...what a film
SPOILER WARNING
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
The point I would like to make is that I think that through the entire short there were quite a few hints that the kid wasn't all right.
This is the Order of the Arrow gone rouge.
OhMerxy that’s exactly what I was thinking. I thought this as soon as I heard ordeal
This is what Tenderfoot me thought the Ordeal was like
I thought the exact same thing bruh
Lol im wondering if I should’ve killed the rest now.
Whats that. Im asian
You guys should make a real horror movie, you are briliant 🙋
An horror anthology
This WAS a horror movie! It's our reality!
They don't make the shorts
This is a horror movie
They don't make these shorts, they simply host them. Read the descriptions.
That was exceptional. Well done. great everything. I really enjoyed it.
He was not a sociopath. sociopaths have no feeling and emotion about things at all This young man did ,and cared .
He doesn’t deserve all that *FOOD*
that line is a CLEAR CUT example of the bad writing throughout this film. really? the one liners were just all a miss.
Excellent Ending !!. I loved how The Scouts meet Survivor series and from there it was any man's game. I am totally in Awe of these Short Films as they leave the Viewer's wanting more. Yet again, Outstanding Acting and I hope to see these young Actors in future movie's.
This was absolutely FANTASTIC!!! On the edge of my seat the entire way to the end.

Wow! Boy Scout Special Forces training is insane.
Omeleto's films have the best cliffhangers
dvd/vhs combo unit is set to DVD. Plays vhs anyway. 0:25
Ehhhh this short seems confused on what it’s trying to be. It seems unfinished. Most of the time I was confused instead of tense and engaged. The camerawork and score was good, though.
I like how the film takes ideas and bits of actual BSA traditions, made it feel more grounded to me.
More torches. We need more torches
I feel so bad for the kid that died last , it feels so fookin bad
M night shyamalan vibes without losing 3hrs of my life!
I’m appart of accrual scouting Bsa and for the order of the arrow (during the ordeal) we fast for 1 day, take a vow of ailments, and do service for the community without expecting pay. The person who made this video knows what happened during that and made it more intense in this. Go Wiwahitchca( my council for the OA)
What is a "vow of ailments"? You promise to get sick?
Seriously, what is it?
Do you mean vow of silence...? Never heard of an "ailments" vow 🤣
Dang, the suspense is killing me all through out. And the music too!
In order for him to win he had to kill the opposition
Once that music kicked in after he didnt see his bud at the campsite i got quinton Tarantino vibes
Anyone notice that he said "for king & country"?
RaptorJesus Yep, then talked about a federation. Couldn’t tell if they were trying to establish a world, or it was a plot hole. The first Scouts were British, so perhaps it was just overlooked
Applause to the director for this one. Omeleto is now my go too. It's like "The twilight zone 2.0 John Carrington(photography) Ian, yeah you too. And all the characters involved. Two thumbs up.

It’s funny how the short guy talks to Justin trying to act tough but he has to look up to the younger person😂😂
Ok
I’m a scout and I’m glad to say there is no Scouting Federation or Brother-Hood at all but there is O.A. ,once you hit eagle rank your done with scouts and you can become a leader or you can just leave
You don't fool anyone, it is common knowledge that you compete in death games in order to achieve the leadership of a powerful organization that runs the world behind the scenes
Looks like Rolling wasn't part of the selected few to make it into the final ranks.
Ahh,the sound of shovel against skull- Clunk with a bit of Tinggg - the Technical Crew must have used a melon as a stand in during the early Production Phase . One would be amazed by the work it takes to produce even a Short like this One . Well done One and All. Ever since I saw the Original Star Wars -A New Hope , I've been fascinated by Special Effects and whilst Plot,Character development , Character interplay and Acting are vital for a successful Production ,convincing Props and Effects make a Production all the better.

The scout leader in the TV looks like Mark Davis in 20 years
has the feel of a solid prequel short to a full length thriller.
Wow!! Awesome short film!
Um, colour me stoopid but I don't get it.
Instead, he used it as a tool to "blend in" a bit better, something real sociopaths do all the time, feign altruism.
there is nothing to get. u are of normal intelligence.
This is true as there are many organizations that have done this forever.
noooo he stabbed the wrong guy D:
Man, I wish the guys were that cute when I was boy scouts, I might have actually stayed.

This "secret organization" in the movie is actually called the Order of the Arrow in Boy Scouts. It's not secret in real life but it requires you to be one of the best scouts of your troop. They also take ideas from the Order of the Arrow like the vow of silence which you also take in the ordeal to get into the Order of the Arrow. The ordeal is basically where you work all day to prove that you can cheerfully and encouragingly help your community
Nah thats the sham one for the public, you only get into the real secret one if you kill the others.
