I once flew a whole day to surprise my boyfriend (almost fiance), drove from NY to Boston which took another 2 hours and found out he was cheating on me. I had to take a cab back to NY to fly back home. There were no flights back that night so I had to stay a night in NY and the cab driver drove me all over NY just to find me a hotel. He knew from the phone calls from my sister that I was heartbroken and he did everything he could to help me out. He didn't want to take any money even though he drove me around for 2 hours until I found a hotel. He came to pick me up the next day from the hotel in his own car to take me to the airport and did not take any money. Even though that night I found out that my ex was a douche, I did not lose trust in humanity. There are some very decent people like Dara out there. Beautiful story! I watched it with tears in my eyes. Bravo!!
Especially long takes which use a piece of music or song all the way through, and film edited to time with the highs and lows. See, Contagion, 2 Days in the Valley "Cat fight," and Longmire Ep. 5 ending.
The loneliest hearts are the kindest. Dara breaks my heart. The actor, who played him did an excellent job. He conveyed so much about Dara, just through body language and facial expression. Also, his face in the first bit, where the couple is making out, I can so identify. I have worked service jobs my whole life and if I had a dime for every time I was treated like a fly on the wall, like I wasn't actually there. It's awkward and a bit ridiculous. It is just like real life and that makes these so incredibly fun to watch. There's no substitute for natural in any form or sense in this world, and I for one wish all movies were just like this.
The cab driver has been lonely for a very long time..but it does not break him...when he gives of himself to others..he gives his purest self..great work!
Be honest, in a real life situation she would have called the police on me for not dropping her off when she asked, and I would have probably agreed with her because I would have been alarmed too if it had happened to me. I understand being a good Samaritan but use your words. Tell the person why, rather than do something that might be misinterpreted. If you have the courage to help her out of that situation then also have the courage to tell her why you did not want her to go to that apartment rather than do something so alarming . Great movie nonetheless
It is well written, the acting is great. So great that I forgot, at times, that I was watching a short film and truly thought it was like getting to be a spectator in someone's true life story. Great movie and my only complaint was the way the driver went about protecting the client, however it was understood at the end and the ending was a good one, at least for the driver. Great movie and very relatable,to the point that you can become emotionally invested before you realize it.
@@TheAstroflight I would not go as far as calling it foolish, just that he did not consider the fact that he was a stranger and his good intentions could have been misinterpreted if he did not give her an explanation ... When you have no family left and no children and no friends every moment of everyday can be filled with pain. The most crowded of places are the loneliest and watching couples hold hands or link each other become noticed like people in colour against the grey backdrop of silhouettes. If you have ever felt this and most people haven't then what can you do to give meaning to your life. Imagine also being unemployed and then nothing could really be bleaker than this. Imagine also suffering from untreatable depression and an addiction. These people are out there and these people see the world in a very different place. Makes me wonder why so may people have so many things yet just because they are not financially wealthy they are unhappy. The only thing in life that can truly bring you happiness is someone to love and someone who loves you.. I have no family and all my friends have moved away over the yrs. When my grandad was alone after my gran passes I went to see him most days. Now there is nobody to come and see me. Pls be kind to people who are alone. Just a kind word or deed can turn it all around for some people. Thanks Omeleto for this one:)
A friend of mine was drunk and got beaten up at the Stanley Cup riot, he was out cold and a cab driver picked him up off the street and drove him home for free. His home was quite away from downtown, that cab fare would have cost him up towards $60.00. That is a lot for this city.
Beethoven - Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Opus 13 (also called "Sonata Pathétique"). What Dara plays at 2:48 is the 2nd movement ("Adagio Cantabile"), and it's definitely beautiful :)
I mean she was... until she realized what he was doing. He did mention dropping off an actor earlier so she knew why he freaked which is why she called back when she found out the truth.
The actor who played the taxi driver, in particular, was AMAZING! Not only was this done in a single shot, but he had to split his focus between acting & driving. Something tells me he wasn't just driving aimlessly. I suspect there was a plan of where he needed to go & the dialogue had to aline with each part of the journey. Great timing!
One shot and that intense look on the face was just amazingly fantastic! My heart was sinking whenever the driver was fixing his hair before the pick up!
Hi, I just watched your film again and found new things to admire. This man is so exquisically sensitive and I adore him. What is he doing on his own? You are a most talented and good hearted man to have created this and I thank you and wish you all the best, Denise🙏🏻😘🥂
Very good direction and ace direction of photography gave this a very atmospheric melancholy feel enhanced by the tightly enclosed space, foggy windows, and gloominess of the night. The pans right and left gave the story space for thought and the clever sparse script gave us more than enough to realise the two leads stories. Very good performances added to what is a top piece of work.
