I spent so many days in the backseat of my aunt's 1960 New Yorker station wagon. Never, ever will there be better memories, or a better station wagon. That Astro Dome was so cool, and I thought that pushbutton trans was the greatest thing. Thanks for the terrific memory.
My ten year old daughter and I are huge fans of this series. She loves classic cars of the 50’s and 60’s just like dear old dad. She loves you as well Charles! Keep up the fine job you are doing. You are bringing the newest generations in to the Mid-Century fold. Thanks you good sir!

Had me at AstroDome instrumentation (being from Houston & we still have the AstroDome) Also back when families filled up those stations wagons! LOL!
I think other car makers used that (or similar) term, too. My '54 Ford (also a station wagon) also has an AstraDome speedometer display. With my Ford it refers to the display being backlit by natural light.
@@kayeninetwo3585 Clear tinted dome on the back side, same as in the 1955 Ford and Thunderbird. The Astradome is on the front and the instruments make a landscape under it. So, a different thing.

Chrysler sure had the best looking cars in the 50s and 60s. This sort of reminds you of the 64 to 66 Thunderbirds in the front.

Wait, wait...New Yorker. Town & Country? I'm confused. That aside, this is a fabulous wagon. Those taillights are brilliant! Astrodome instrumentation alert! This is a super deluxe car with fantastic details all around. Such a great balance of jet age and civilized, every day luxury. It may be rare but it's also extremely...well done.
From 1951-65 you could have 2 trim levels of Chrysler wagon, Windsor (later Newport) T&C or New Yorker T&C (except 52, when it was a Saratoga). Except for 52, when the Roadmaster topped it by a few dollars, the NY T&C was always America's most expensive production wagon.

what a knockout. Back in the late 70's, a friend and I drove a '60 Chrysler Windsor convertible from Seattle to Lake Tahoe, towing a little Shasta trailer. same crazy-ass taillights and that spectacular dashboard. did not have that ground shaking 413 that this wagon has, tho. I think ima gonna go with the wagon over the droptop...there's just so much 'there', there.

Never have I seen Power Door locks (Vaccume, I know) on a 1960 Mopar. Early Cruise Control. wow. My 1973 Fleetwood had Cruise and it was all over the place with speed. Can’t imagine 1960. What a Beauty!
I do recall electric door locks on some 1959 Imperials. Also recall rear air conditioning on Mopars.

A lot of people think the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Series 62 was the first car with available cruise control, but it was actually Chrysler in 1958 who first brought the technology to market. At the time it was revolutionary. To be able to get on to the freeway, flip a switch, and take your foot off the accelerator while the car kept going was absolutely mind blowing to people back then. It was a step towards full automation that we are seeing today in modern cars.
That is right! Chrysler Corp's "Auto Pilot" was introduced in 1958 GM's "Cruise Control" in 1959 ...
I always wanted a late 50s early 60s station wagon and turn it into a 4×4 or bush hunting truck ✌

I had one, 1960 windsor 4 door, black with mint green interior and off course the golden lion 383 you know some of the trim pieces where made of brass. I miss that car thanks for posting.

I've come to appreciate Chrysler products from the mid 50s to early 60s alot more than I did when I was younger. As a kid I favored what my parents and relatives drove, which was GM mostly.
Another day, another great car! And that rear facing back seat! I remember being ill many times as a kid while riding backwards for hundreds of miles in our Dodge wagon. THOSE WERE THE DAYS!
Spectacular! I have always loved pillarless hardtop 4 doors, but on a wagon, *chefs kiss!* And that Astrodome instrument cluster, wow. Also, in the current zeitgeist, that pattern at 2:29 may not be atomic, it almost looks like the virus, ha.

I really enjoy many of your station wagon videos. Back in the day, no one saved wagons, often parting them for two door coups and convertibles. I love the wagons, as I grew up riding in them. Dad had a 59 Chevy Parkwood that I loved.... he traded it for a 66 Ford Country Sedan, the 66 was traded for a new 72 Ford Country Squire..... that he owned until 2002, when a friend of mine bought it.... it was still like new! I subscribed to your channel.

Sir I had too subscribe after watching this is video! Not only because I enjoy being able to see a pristine Imperial station wagon. But not once did you remark about it's size or use cheesy references like couch on wheels, or the loathsome "land yacht"! Hope to check out more of your videos. American classic cars in my opinion best in the world!

Reminded me so much of Tucson, or is it Phoenix metro? Nice overview. A high school friend inherited a 2 door '60 300 from his grandfather, think it had 3000 miles on it, either way I remember the astrodome speedometer. Beautiful car, don't know where it ended up (at the time I had a '60 Electra 2 door) all back in 1976.
