@@_charlesphoenix This looks exactly like the 58 in the Melanie Griffith film, Crazy in Alabama. Oh Charles. You don't merely say, "I know!" you moan it. I'm absolutely soaking in it!
5:33 The two triangle symbols on the AM radio dial showed you where to tune into in case of a nuclear attack. Those symbols are for the Civil Defense system, also used to denote underground shelters.
My older brother taught me how to recognize the difference between a Ford, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Pontiac, etc. This was back in the 60's. Now, I don't know what I am looking at, as so many of the newer cars have copied each other.
Just revisited this video and the car is as stunning as I remember. Love the '58 Ford, my first Ford love and who could even present it better than Charles Phoenix. And the spaghetti restaurant is fantastic. Thanks for sharing Charles.
Stunning 1958 Fairlane. Gulfstream Blue is my FAVOURITE colour on this year Ford. I once owned an AMT/SMP model of a 1958 Sunliner and this is the exact colour combo I painted it!! He's right about the car being rare. My dad worked for Ford and once told me the sheet metal used for 1958 Fords wasn't the best quality and rusted easily.
you are right , it is rolling sculpture , a work of art. I still remember my first day in 1st grade in Phillipsburg NJ mrs Loftus had a brand new yellow and white 58 Ford. BTW it is the second year for the 9" rear end which remains the staple for high performance and hot rods to this day.
Truth! The 57 Thunderbird got it first, along with station wagons and Hi-Po cars in 57. I own a basket case 57 Thunderbird, and its original 9 inch rear is still on board!
Thanks, Charles. I dream in that turquoise color! Love it! The car and the spaghetti have this stay at home weekend off to a great start. More! We want MORE!...😎
Watched this a second time. Behold the glory! A treat that can’t be beat. The car just kept going and going in clean enjoyment. Also, your added sound effects! The accent music, the sea gulls while viewing the “See Clear” bag, then a dog barked.
That's the most beautiful '58 Ford I've ever seen. Dat color!!!!!! Dat color-coordinated interior!!!!! And now you've got me fiending for Vince's Spaghetti!!!!!! :)
The tough part for me would be having to choose between that color and the banana cream color! I'd be nervous about stray golf balls. This and your other videos always put me in a good mood and smile ear to ear. That lunch looked delicious too! Thanks for sharing the best of "the greatest generation" with us!
I WAS ALLWAS A GM MAN HOWEVER WHAT I JUST SEEN ON YOUR VID I CANT BE MORE ASHAMEND WHAT YOU HAVE JESUS IS SHOWING OFF IN IT DONT THINK I EVER SAW ANYTHING SO AWESOMTHANK YOU GOD BLESS YOU .
In 1961 my Dad bought my brother who was only 13 years old an identical one.it was beautiful! I remember he took all the interior and dash light bulbs out and painted them red.He drove it till late 63 and traded it for a new 64 fairlane sport coupe red..
In honesty, there is always something about all 1958 cars that had the 4 way headlights that made them look marvelous. I'm a HUGE sucker for all 58 models.
That car is identical to our family car from 59 to early 62, with exception of the A/C and the accessory rocker trim. Same color combination and all! That was such a beautiful car...
Just the right balance of chrome, graceful lines and sweeping curves. Swift SURE power brakes/Mater Guide Power Steering!!!! Superlative marketing appointments to be sure. I hope that was your sacrifice (spaghetti eating shirt) because that food looked so so scrumptious!
Hahaha I actually laughed out loud at the spaghetti disaster. But yeah,. the car is gorgeous. That feature line at the front that follows the inverted angle of the headlights down is REALLY nice.
My first car was also a 58 - the Skyliner model! This was in 1962. Pretty heady stuff. I tried to make it go fast, as street racing (the real kind) was what we were about. Any red light might present a new opportunity. A squint eyed glance at the other driver, a rev or two, and IT WAS ON. Only......my Skyliner, while beautiful in it's Royal Metallic Blue Paint and a total chick magnet (almost as good as a Vette), was a stone. The 352 4 barrel even though modified with 370s out back was no match for the weight of the car. It was kind of like 1990s and 2000s Lincolns with the 4.6. Too much weight, too little torque and horsepower to get it done. I became quite familiar with the taillights of Chevies. Still, I loved that car! It was almost majestic going down the highway at speed. At the risk of offending everyone, I would add this opinion: The front end and side views were terrific, but I always thought the 57s had a nice tail end with the rounded headlights. I suspect others thought that as well because Ford went back to the rounded jet turbine look for the 59s.
this seems to be the forgotten ford, it was such a beautiful design! fabulous front, and back end, that doesn't come every day! big old T Bird sedan....
we had a 58 with the 406 police interceptor engine. it smoked so bad we used it for skeeter control at picinics lol. the 57 was my favorite year but the 58 was cool looking and the 1st year of 4 headlights.
The cars of the era tell a story all by themselves...what was happening in America, in the world (where to tune in case of an atomic attack). But to have the story of the car is what I relish. It is always the “why.” Why this car? What was going on in your life and the life of your family that draws you to this car? Charles, keep telling us the stories that have defined our generation.
I just love that car when I was 5 years old back in about 1966 my dad had one that set in the alley used to come home and sit in that car after school almost everyday for that year only it was the three on the tree and I remember pushing the buttons on the Town & Country radio wish I still have today I told Dad that I wanted to drive that car when I was able to drive but he couldn't do it he had to cut it up for strap man I would still love to have that car today or even one close to it
My grandparents used to take me to Vinces on the weekends, for French dip sandwiches on our way to Big Bear Lake. 1970's. The first car was a 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix, 1958 Ford F-10 and last , 1971 Cadillac.
Very nice video, by the way. I'll be looking at this a lot!!! And, I grew up in Pomona, worked at my dad's car lot in Ontario. Drove by Vince's just about every day. We thought we'd died and gone to heaven when the first Sizzler opened right down the street from Vinces on Holt. A steak sandwich for $4.99!
Wow, whoever checked the boxes off the source code, sure did it right with all these options, especially the new for 58' FE 352 c.i. interceptor. It's probably light too, compared to a Second Generation Thunderbird.
Wow...what a *BEAUT* ....and so are you and Mark for presenting it to us! My dear late Mom would have chosen it just for the color alone, as she loved anything and everything turquoise! Thank you also for taking us to that diner...and making me hungry...looked *DeeeLISH!* ....Cheers from Canada...oh, and I love your passion and enthusiasm! Keep up the awesome job with your vids...they're FUN! 👋😎
I remember in 1958 there was an advertising campaign by Ford featuring Paris fashion models showing off their cars. They featured shots of Paris and Poodles with the Eiffel Tower in the background.
Do you know how some people r crazy about 57 Chevys? I'm that crazy about 58 Fords. I've owned four. A 2dr Fairlane 500, a Sunliner convertible, a Skyliner retrecable, and a 4dr station wagon. The car you've shown, turquoise and white, is a perfect representation of 1950's America.
The chrome around the headlights is aftermarket. These were a facelift on the all new including frame and suspension 1957's. The V8 was the first year of the larger V8 series he referred to. One with those options, particularly the AC (not integrated, but integrated controls) is a great find.
So I wasn't the only one to notice the air conditioner type. The factory installed A/C had its outlets at the base of the windshield, as did the '57. (55 and 56 exited on either side of the radio speaker at the top of the dash). The '59 went to this style of outlet. My guess is that this was a dealer installed system, issued by Ford accessories. Note the outside of the passenger door, just below the vent window. The badge denoting air conditioning installed badge is present. That, or someone did a masterful job of integrating 58 and 59 parts to build a complete, functional system, still using all contemporary Ford parts. Nice work either way!
I stand corrected on my earlier reply to this point. I have the factory parts manuals for this car, and I have discovered that Ford DID switch from the windshield outlets to the lower outlets in this video for the 1958 model year, even though the instrument panels are basically the same. The center duct had a revision done for '59. This '58 has a factory installed system.
Hey Charles, it just doesn't get any better than this!!! A beautiful 58 two tone Fairlane 500 AND Vince's Spaghetti!!! I know!!! I've eaten at Vince's many times!! Thanks for the fun video my friend ☺🎉
Love those fifties two-tone colors. Oh yeah. You know. I know. We all know. On top of spaghetti, all covered with lots of cheese, Charles meatball nearly rolled on to the floor.
You did it again , Charles!!!! THAT CAR!!!!! THAT SPAGHETTI!!!! I miss old family run Italian restaurants like that as there all out of biz where I live!!!!
Uncle had a 4 door 1958 Ford Fairlane Town Victoria. Seaspray Green body and Colonial White roof and inside the oval. 4 door hardtop. Rare model. This was the middle line of the 1958 Fords. Between the Custom 300 and the Fairlane 500. The Custom 300 and Fairlane 500 also had the gold trim on the sides. The Fairlane did not have gold trim. It had a stainless oval style of trim that inside of the oval had the same color as the roof. Rusted top of the front headlights due to road grime and snow caught under the front headlights. The area above the rear wheels rusted.
Just came across you. I like you, your a funny guy 😀🤚. I’m a 1954 Ford guy and of course I grew up in the 50s so I’ve always had a passion for those old fords, Buicks and Mercurys not so much the Chevys. I have subscribed.

And Vince's Spaghetti looks good enough to warrant the three day trip from Ohio!!! At least you didn't lose that FABULOUS meatball to the floor! I love your channel and am looking forward to many more Space Age trips down memory lane! I KNOW................
I have a 4 door. It is the same color everything. I have another layer of chrome on the sides. They are both beautiful. I am in Austin TX but would love to go to Vince's Spaghetti. This video made my day!
wow...that one is a stunner. a 352 powered factory a/c sporty 2 door top-of-the-line hardtop...someone ticked all the high-style boxes on that order sheet and single-handedly raised the bar for all the rest of the dads in their suburban village. Doesn't get any better. 1958 was a big year for Ford engine engineering, introducing its new FE (which this car has) and MEL series engines, which powered countless Ford products through the 60's and with the FE, into the late 70's. Much better engines than the old Y-block family they replaced. Again, this car is just amazing...congrats to the lucky owner! And BTW, the little 'atmospherical' vignette of the spaghetti house was fun...who doesn't remember 1960's spaghetti houses?...might be a good addition to your future Joyrides where we get to see a little bit of the environment these cars lived in!
I love the fact that Ford offered two tones colors in different shades (besides black & white). I have a 1959 Ford Buyers Digest. In it it shows two Ford wagons. Every bit as good looking as a '58 Impala.
