I know that only a very few people hold the same view, but the noise while you plug in a guitar is just ✨iconic✨. For me, it gives the feeling as though the guitar had woken up to life, being dormant before it was plugged in, and gives me that extra first motivation when I start playing. The only place I see myself using the noiseless cables are when I am swapping guitars on stage, which hasn't happened till now. Don't get me wrong. I know that the noise annoys a lot of people. The jack plug is magic... I have a couple of cables with quiet jacks. Only about $12-15 if you need to replace a jack on an old cable anyway (and can solder). Being Neutrik PX-type plugs, they are modular, and this is why that matters: for thick cables you really, really need the BPX-L replacement bushing & strain relief. Thank you, Paul for sharing so much really cool information in a short video, your smooth style is unmatched by anyone else on youtube. Its obvious you love music, so thank you and very happy holidays.
Awesome guide but I'm going to give an alternative to your quiet cable and a tip about the recording mic: D'Addario/Planet waves has a cable that has a physical switch on it, so you can decide when you want your audio back on (it can get dirty though and make some noise but some contact cleaner clears it out). These cables, at least 10+ years ago when I bought them, were coax and solder free. You just make a straight cut and put the connector to the cut end. The mic tip is if you are trying to write and just need to capture the idea so you don't forget, put the mic up against the body of the guitar and capture the resonance. Works best with electrics, haven't tried with acoustics, but people have asked if I used an acoustic or DI on those scratch recordings.
I also allways brought a plug, you could just stick on a cut cable. Sometimes, you have a break in the cable. It's a good adiea, to bring a spare, but if you didn't , you could just take a scissors, cut it in half, and stick the plug on, in no time.
Also, the type of batteries for the Polytune. Ikea sells them in a packet of like ten for less than 2 euros. Highly recommended to have a set in your guitar case.

Thanks for the tip on the guitar stand. The ones I've had have driven me nuts. On one of them the feet folded when I put a morgan jazz guitar in it resulting in it falling on the floor and cracking the neck. I also had a strat tipping out of one because there was no lock holding it in place and I stupidly gave it a nittle nudge whilst vacuuming. Lucklily no damage other than a tiny nick at the headstock and a broken string. The rubber feet on many of them also have a nasty tendency of leaving black marks on wooden floors - grrrr! I've resorted to storing all my guitars in their cases in a closet.
Thank you Paul for sharing this info with us. As always, we appreciate you. Happy holidays. Hope Santa brings you everything you ever wanted! Ho Ho Ho.....
Paul, I would add the Line 6 Pocket Pod as an 11. Fun with MANY cool features at Great price. Battery or AC powered, expandable with your computer but small, smart even with a belt clip. Stuff just wears out, but in the mean time this is awesome! Not affiliated with them, just a user.
I love that tuner, I got it for Christmas and it has permanently replaced the snark I used to use
Our guitarist loves the Polytune too!
Oooouuu that transcribe program looks amaaaaziiiiing. #goals
I bought myself a Helix LT and a Headrush 112 FRFR for christmas. Nobody else wanted to fork over the money lol
Hercules stands are the absolute best.
*Disclaimer: Buying things won't make you happe.
Me: That's ok... *Pulls out D41k Martin* I'll just be sad with this bad boy.
hahaha right on mate
You could write Midwest emo on it but I dare you to be sad enough
Sent this to my mom.
Thank you a lot for Transcribe!
While it won't replace a pedal board its surprisingly cool via headphones or into a small amp. This is not your average toy.
