Great video. We are originally from Sri Lanka and frankly, we have not seeing some of these places. One thing I would like to correct, Sri Lankans either follow Buddhism or Hinduism and not both. Most temples do have gods (or deity's) that are part of Hinduism, but that does not mean they follow Hinduism. It was great to see some of the less tourist areas of Colombo.
Colombo changed lot! So many tall buildings & looks awesome with lovely beaches. Nice to see both of you had vegetarian meals, happy to know Carol loves vegetarian,Carol's one is south indian thali & yours is north indian thali. The prices are very reasonable & budget friendly. What is expensive is visa charges, 100 USD is too high.Architecture of mosque is awesome, never seen such a beautiful mosque. Vegetable market is superb. Happy to see both of you enjoying your beer after days work that too in hot sun. You have covered colombo very well. Appreciate both of you for your passion to travel around the globe & thank you for sharing the video.
I didn't know that Sri Lanka had so many historical building. So beautiful! I,m impressed by the mix of modern and historical buildings. My dad was actually in Sri Lanka in the early 50's, it was called Ceylon then. So we had some lamps and things from there in my childhood home I remember ☺☺ hehe! Nice video, take care you two ♥♥

The Visa processing has been outsourced to some Indian company & that’s reason the visa fees has been increased. Most of the visa fee is going to the Indian company.
Old abandoned building in Fort was the Apothecaries which used to sell spices, food, sweets "great ginger biscuits" and other goods. The red building across the street the Cargills was a famous departmental store witch use to sell books, comics, toys, clothes and other goods. The white building next to it was the Millers another departmental store. The church in pettah the Wolvendaal Church is now the Dutch reformed Church. Great memories! 🛺🏝😊
I got a shock when I saw you with your hair cut. Glad to see you out of China and now in Sri Lanka. Consider wearing hats in that heat or carry an umbrella to protect your skin. Enjoy the seasonal fruits like mangoes and seafood.
Yes, Silveira is a Portuguese surname that some Sri Lankans have, but its not as common as the Silva, De Silva, and Perera surnames. Enjoy my hometown of Colombo :D
It's kind of healing to see Colombo from the perspective of a tourist. I can't recall the number of times I had gone past those buildings and never really thought anything about them. It suddenly looks so artistic from your point of view, something I never noticed before! Thanks a lot for this video, and hope you guys had fun!
The three most common last names in Sri Lanka are all of Portuguese origin. They're Perera, Silva/ De Silva, and Fernando. Just for your information, many Hindu stupas and images of gods are present in most temples today because, in ancient times, Buddhist kings often took women from South India as their brides. To accommodate their worship practices, the kings built small Hindu worship places beside the main Buddhist temples. Over time, this practice has evolved into a cultural tradition, resulting in most Buddhist temples now featuring Hindu gods as well.
It was so interesting to see the port city area. I was in Sri Lanka in 2018 and they were still bringing in the dirt to complete building out the land then, I believe!

$100 visa is not great but if you add up how cheap everything seems to be Sri Lanka seems like a good deal. No visa for Switzerland but $100 in Switzerland doesn’t even get you up a mountain on the cable car!!
yes but the main issue is the amount of travelers that will go to other similar destinations instead due to having no fees at all meaning less money for the locals. This is just an attempt at the government to make more money and not locals, we found out later that there was a big outrage in the country during the first week that it was implemented and now they have apparently reverted the fees back already
@@JumpingPlacesthat makes a lot of sense. Keeping tourist dollars at the government level in beurocrat’s pockets instead of the locals. I was looking at the issue a bit selfishly . You’re correct.

North Indian moghul food is non vegetarian Muslim oriented. However, there is North Indian vegetarian as well as South Indian vegetarian based which is Hindu based. Sri Lanka has a mixture of all as it is an Island nation. Chinese, Malay, Indian, western and Sri Lankan influences in their cuisines.
