@Phebe Bofay Child sacrifice, referred to as capacocha was an important part of the Inca religion and was often used to commemorate important events, such as the death of a Sapa Inca. Human sacrifice was also used as offering to the gods in times of famine, and as a way of asking for protection Sacrifice could only occur with the direct approval of the Inca emperor. Children were chosen from all over the sprawling Inca empire, and were picked primarily based on their "physical perfection". Children chosen for sacrifice were generally "sons and daughters of nobles and local rulers". They were then taken hundreds or thousands of miles to Cusco, the capital, where they were the subject of important purification rituals. From there, the children were sent to high mountaintops throughout the empire to be sacrificed. According to traditional Inca belief, children who are sacrificed do not truly die, but instead watch over the land from their mountaintop perches, alongside their ancestors. The Inca considered it a great honour to die as a sacrifice.
mummies were one of my first obsessions, and remember watching the documentary about the three kids, as well as other around the world, so returning to see the care and respect they gave her is heart-warming
It doesn't feel like a mummy. It feels like a really child sleeping. The way that scientist carried that girl from one table to another gave me goosebumps. Can't believe this is a mummy
I'm pretty sure it's not just that. I'm pretty sure it's because before her sacrifice she had probably led a tough life, as most people did back then. Survival was hard no doubt. And she lived on a diet that may have not been that consistent, or the best. Plus, life was no doubt stressful and it is common for young people to have grey hairs.
How horrific. Nobody that young should die in such a way. Imagine the impact she could have had on other people or the joy she could have brought if she were allowed to live

this is the craziest thing I think I will ever see or hear of in my entire life, like the fact that you can see her face and everything like she's not a skeleton and she's still sitting that position over 500 years later is mindblowing, terrifying, sad but also very very interesting at the same time.
She probably was considered an adult a back then. We think of teens as children. But back then her peers who were healthy were probably married and had families of their own. Her hair looks like a modern day weave. What is up with that?
First off, it’s not weave. It’s braids and it’s a hairstyle that was passed down in history. And I think it looks pretty good to me so that’s “what’s up with that”
Heather Kamami this isn't weave, they're called box braids or well these are really thin I almost want to call them micro-braids but weave on the other hand is where you cornrow the hair and then sew in hair tracks with a hooked needle and some thread
I love her story because it's almost against the rules, in a sense. We shouldn't be able to gaze upon the face of someone who existed 500 years before us. It defies the natural order, and I love it!
I'm having mixed feelings because I want to respect the dead and have her buried but then again we NEED to test and examine mummies like this to understand our past whenever we can. Also I want to see this documentary in it's entirety!
I know it's a year ago, but I know how you feel; respect for the dead but we also need to learn our history. Even if it means desecrating someone's grave from a thousand years ago, we NEED to study and learn our history otherwise we are doomed to repeat it.
Kaytlin Justis Unfortunately, we are doomed to repeat it. We have no room for any mystery or spirituality in our dog eat dog capitalistic material society. There is great spiritual wisdom in ancient cultures that we have evolved so far away from, losing connection to our natural environment, placing us on trajectory of annihilation of our species. Don’t mean to be so negative, but we are doomed as a species and truly believe we deserve to be wiped clean from this earth before we destroy it and other life any further.

@@phebebofay4538 For gods
They sacrificed her for THE gods i belive
They have them corn liquor (chicha) and coca leaves before leaving them in the caves, so they were pretty out of it. Just went to sleep..
@Phebe Bofay
Child sacrifice, referred to as capacocha was an important part of the Inca religion and was often used to commemorate important events, such as the death of a Sapa Inca. Human sacrifice was also used as offering to the gods in times of famine, and as a way of asking for protection
Sacrifice could only occur with the direct approval of the Inca emperor.

If you knew that you were going to be a sacrifice, you'd stress and get grey hair too😥
I'm pretty sure it's not just that. I'm pretty sure it's because before her sacrifice she had probably led a tough life, as most people did back then. Survival was hard no doubt. And she lived on a diet that may have not been that consistent, or the best. Plus, life was no doubt stressful and it is common for young people to have grey hairs.
I'm pretty sure my comment was meant to be sarcastic, however my educated guess is due to the elements and diet was her hair greyed.

There are 3 causes for grey hair to appear which is aging, stress and genetic factors.

Crazy to think that she’s two hundred years older than George Washington and the US yet she looks like she had just died yesterday.
Imagine suddenly being fed great food back then, only to realize it was to prepare you to be a sacrifice... sweet poor girl
We all gangsta until she moves her hand
She probably was considered an adult a back then. We think of teens as children. But back then her peers who were healthy were probably married and had families of their own.
Her hair looks like a modern day weave. What is up with that?
Fashion cycles. Everything old is new again!
weave is whole different hairstyle
First off, it’s not weave. It’s braids and it’s a hairstyle that was passed down in history. And I think it looks pretty good to me so that’s “what’s up with that”
Heather Kamami this isn't weave, they're called box braids or well these are really thin I almost want to call them micro-braids but weave on the other hand is where you cornrow the hair and then sew in hair tracks with a hooked needle and some thread
I like how some people think weave is a recent discovery, people been doing it for centuries just like tattoos.
Bruuuhh imagine inside her mind she's feeling pain and is stuck on being alive for hundreds of years
Do you really think this?
Cool theory but not possible
She looks so sad but so sweet and peaceful
I was waiting for the moment she turns her head back around omg like she looks dead obviously but she was preserved so well it's crazy
I love her story because it's almost against the rules, in a sense. We shouldn't be able to gaze upon the face of someone who existed 500 years before us. It defies the natural order, and I love it!
True
I'm having mixed feelings because I want to respect the dead and have her buried but then again we NEED to test and examine mummies like this to understand our past whenever we can. Also I want to see this documentary in it's entirety!
I know it's a year ago, but I know how you feel; respect for the dead but we also need to learn our history. Even if it means desecrating someone's grave from a thousand years ago, we NEED to study and learn our history otherwise we are doomed to repeat it.
Kaytlin Justis
Unfortunately, we are doomed to repeat it.
C M, You are not wrong
Kaytlin Justis, How would you feel if it was your sibling, parent, Grandparent etc?
Party Pooper, Would you feel the same if it was your own Grandparent, parent, sibling etc?
So many tiny braids provided a protective style. Amazing, they showed her respect and appreciation for her sacrifice.
She was sacrificed for an evil pagan religion. They were dressing up their victim. Nothing respectful about it.
Am I the only one who got scared when the scientist picked her up to examine?
This is amazing. Almost like you're dealing with a person who came out of a time machine.
