I saw him in the museum in Seattle. It was extremely unsettling but powerful. I could stare into the eyes of a man that lived way before me.
He had a childhood, he grew up, he laughed, cried, lived. This is someone who had an entire life long ago in a country that would be unrecognizable to me today. And I’m now standing face to face with that man.
I felt kind of gross, almost like I was invading his privacy. But I also felt reverence for him.

For those who are curious, Sylvester was so well preserved because he was injected with an arsenic based fluid by an embalmer immediately following his death. Arsenic was used to stop the decomposition by killing bacteria and insects that invaded the body. This caused his body to dry out and subsequently, be mummified.

When I die, I'd much rather my corpse be on display so I can give at least something to this world, showing history and answering possible questions people have. I'm absolutely not worried whatsoever where my body goes, because that's our temporary home, our home will be wherever we end up when we die, "respect" has lost it's meaning in our culture, and now has over 1000 ways of interpreting it. You'd be showing respect to a corpse if it had something to offer, showing it's true potential, even in death. Who cares if it makes publicity/income, you should honor the corpse for giving you that blessing, and preserve as long as you can.

It's not wrong or immoral. I wish I could put this in nicer words but you were raised so sheltered from the world I don't think you have an idea of what death is. People die, everyone dies, it's just human fucking anatomy. It shouldn't be illegal or wrong because it's interesting and useful. People see cool mummy preserved well, shop makes money. It's not exploitation or a horrible thing. It's just some random guy who might have been a gunslinger in the "Wild West" who died.

Kajun Means Seasoned Not Hot! first of all if he had any family he probably wouldn't be there. Second of all why does everybody in America want to sue everybody? is that mommy ruining your life? Is he hurting you somehow? If you're offended by it don't go to the shop. simple.

My dad was thin when he was young. My dad died of pancreas cancer at about 62 years old. I always visualized my dad as big and strong 💪 brawn. Cancer ate my dad alive. When my dad died he was skinny, that's when I seen his nose was alkaline. Like the picture you showed on thumbnail. That's how my dad looked when he died on his birthday April 29.

People here like let him rest but damn. when most of us die, life moves without us. But look. How many years later? And he is still here, with admirers, he is a curiosity. A man from the old world. People come to be amazed, pay respect and learn. If he knew his body was used to show a piece of history, a curiosity, and he was still relevant after all this time? Wow. I wish we could all have that fate. Instead of dying, a few generations of ur family remmeber you and then poof. You only exist in photos or family trees. He still exists. Thats a remarkable achievement. There are no morals in death. Only death and non existence. He is laid to rest. He just isn't covered in dirt and rotting away.

People are saying that its bad that he is on display in a store but every museum is the history of museums do this to body which have no casket or wrappings and besides some people find museums boring so putting him in a store might be a better way to tell his story. I would want to be on display when i die so people know what a internet idiot looks like and then i can be a piece of history gathering dust. If your put in the ground you just become fertiliser.
