Did You Know In SHUTTER ISLAND…

- A small detail reveals Teddy’s true identity early on! Of course the big plot twist of the movie is finding out that Teddy Daniels isn’t in fact a US Marshall, but actually Andrew Laeddis, a patient at the mental sanatorium he is investigating. This twist is actually given away as every time that Teddy goes to smoke a cigarette, someone else lights it for him. This is because patients on Shutter Island are not permitted to carry lighters around with them.

This movie is horrifically sad. Great movie, but so sad. I think almost any sane person would completely and utterly fall apart and collapse mentally if something like that happened to them.
Agreed
I say this all the time. One of the saddest movies I have ever seen.
I recommend watching No Mercy , a Korean film.
@@JonSnow-pn6gn thanks for the suggestion
true, this movie made me feel so dumb in the end lol
He also had trouble getting his gun loose in the beginning, hinting he’s not actually a cop
that was chuck
@@elcar659 yeah maybe coz he is not a cop but a doc
@@sarasyed1097 yeah i think this person thought it was teddy tho
Bruh he was a war veteran and/or a US marshal before ending up in the facility, that was chuck who fumbled the holstered gun
Do you guys seriously not getting it?😂
Man…
Yes, the person’s talking about chuck. Thanks for this genius discovery. Him not being a cop IS another hint of the twist at the end!
Why do y’all think he has to talk about Ted?💀
There wasn’t just 1 twist in the movie
so that's why I can't ever find a lighter
Good show o'l boy
very impressive defense mechanisms
To this day, I still believe that they tricked him and that he’s in fact a federal marshal
That's what I thought too for a long time after I watched it the fist time, but there is just to many details pointing out that he is a patient. Last scene where he gives a short look at Dr. John (the bald doctor) he almost cried knowing he couldn't help him. That for me is the most convincing scene.
Just watch it second time
I’ve seen it twice and the truth is that he is in fact a patient but there’s a part of me that believes he was tricked. The whole scene in the cave with Rachel Solando makes me think that’s the case, even if that was shown to be one of his delusions. It’s hard to discern what is real and what’s not.
😂😂😂
I thought that too after the 1st time I watched it...that they made him crazy...but after watching it again my thought changed
Andrew Laeddis was a US Marshal, he stopped once he came home after catching a criminal and found his wife had murdered their children. It’s why he’s able to behave in a way that a US Marshal would when he thinks he’s looking for a missing patient.
I was about to say the same thing he actually was and that's why it made him one of their most dangerous patient.
It's also cause he's scared of fire
I thought he was scared of water?
He's scared of water
But he burn Matchstick In ward C During searching
What about that fire
@@robmc-bob2726he was scared of fire and water.
In the lighthouse chuck told andrew that first incident was his wife had set their apartment on fire
@@indianhelper-i8s He was allucinating.
I want to be a teddy as a real character...my heart didn't accept teddy as a patient 😭
Ive been in a mental hospital and yes we arent allowed to light our own cigarettes. The worst thing about it was that you had to line up for someone to light it for you and when i got to the front the first time i realised that they were using MY lighter.
Bro you still crazy
You need to be taken down to that Lighthouse
@@ucckyop2913 possibly. I'm writing this from rehab so I guess so.
Who let you come out?
y'all are ruthless in the replies 😭
He has matches in the cell c where he was looking for laydis
I was thinking the exact same lol
That was an illusion. i believe it was his consciousness trying to tell him what he already knew feel down
Remember when George told Laeddis that the match was going off. I believe that was just George messing with him because George knew that Laeddis was probably imagining a match.
@@straightdrpp5668How did he light the car on fire then?
@@SimulatorWhizgood observation bro.
He was a marshal, that’s why he’s so dangerous
He is the most dangerous patient there because he is the most capable of exposing them.
Glad you understand the real plot@@guysensei3114
Also he kept loosing his cigarettes. He was always borrowing cigarettes. Could have been laced with something.
Why would you let them hold their own cigarettes if they can't even light them?
Same as titanic he always bummed a smoke 💨
He had a Matchbox.
I personally think the reason he never lit his own cigarette is because Laeddis's wife, Dolores, set the house on fire so it's just like PTSD for him. This same logic works as to why he hates water at the start of the movie. His wife drowned his kids.
What exactly happened there?
Did his wife burned the house & later on smothered her kids?
Also towards the end he was not crazy I believe he over came his trauma and found peace but as he stated in last quote he made peace but the guilt of the situation was haunting “to live as a monster or die as a good man” kind of like a too good for hell and too bad for heaven. Even if he proved he was okay he still would never be the same because he died the day the incident happened figuratively.
And then you find out they've been actually gaslighting him into thinking he's a patient...
You might just have it the other way around. Every time i watch this movie i have a different theorie...
Same😅
Now wait a darn minute!!!
You are telling me, that Darth Was Luke’s father the whole time?
😂😂
😂😂
Context?
Lighter issue is Unconvincing !
As a former smoker, there were times I forgot my matches & had to rely on others.
Teddy simply forgot/misplaced his lighter.
Andrew Laediss , a 'firebug' would be more likely to have a way of starting a Flame.
😮
He doesn’t actually ever have his own cigarettes, not just the lighter
1. Why in first scene, every security getting scared when teddy come
2. Why teddy have a lighter when he was meet george in bangsal C
3. The ending so confusing
the gaurds were scared because andrew was a patient in ward C
he didn't had a lighter it was a matchstick and that was hallucianation
That’s why all the guards were “tense”
Also every patient was trying to tell him that he was Andrew. Although he kept on misunderstanding it. For example the woman in the lunch room, she wrote down his name but he thought it meant something else.
Now I gotta rewatch
There's constant details. Great film to re watch.
There's also medication in the cigarettes. His doc keeps giving him them and the withdrawals start when he stops smoking. Also people start blowing smoke in his face frequently.
He was a us marshal and war hero guys. But he made the new identity to cover up his wife’s murder. Y’all seem to be confused abt that
Love the film.. first time I thought he genuinely was a marshal, right up to the end 🙈
Than you are in there spell. It was not a dream. This game and torture is done to high Freemasons. America took many Nazi German scientists to America, that could torture people in crazy ways.
Fuck man this is real?@@goldenlight1922
Nah bro, he dropped a Spoiler for a Scorcese movie without a damn alert 💀
I think at this point the movie has been in the public zeitgeist long enough that if you're actively clicking on a movie like Shutter island then the responsibility lies on you, and not the poster.
Huh? I thought e is BOTH a Marshall and a patient?
You're right, the doctor's explanation (Ben Kingsley) is clear: he was a Marshall until one day he found his wife killing their children in the lake, there Laeddis kills her, he goes crazy and they put him in Shutter Island, where he continues with his fantasy of continuing to be a marshall
But he used a match when he met George?
Also he met his detective partner not on shore but on the boat (first scene)
Woah i just watch this.. what a twist
This movie has 2 different perspective endings.
So, what was the boat scene at the beginning? Just imagination?
DEPENDS🙂
The movie has a ambiguous ending, if you think that Ted is a marshal then it was true otherwise it's not.
It's probably true. Remember when they they rode a car at the dock and said. "Your people seem are on edge".
It's probably because he's the most dangerous patient there.
@@wagyubeefpatty3570 but why would people talk about the "storm" when he is not in the room if it didn't exist? Or bring that up even before he said anything? That always bothers me
I wanted a warning before you gave the plot away
Movie is old as hell. Had plenty of time to watch it if you wanted to 🤣
@@DxrkyJxnkoJRM didn’t know it existed :(
He had mastich on block c
That is a very SMALL detail for sure but I like it well done
His wife called him litus in his flashback
But he was having matchsticks
Right.
How are we supposed to know that unless we already saw the movie
So why he have a Matchbox when he met George on locker ??
Also, they hint at "Chuck," not being his partner and that Teddy has been "working alone" in the beginning when they're searching Rachel's room. Chuck finds her shoes and goes, "You're saying she escaped barefoot? No way." But, just a few minutes later, the officer touring them around the island tells Teddy, "You said it yourself. She couldn't have made it far without shoes." And Teddy and Chuck both look at eachother, because they both know Chuck said it, not Teddy. Small detail, but super cool, like its Teddy realizing for the first time that something is defintely off.
What are you saying here issss that Marshall is Not a patient??
Or are you clarifying Marshall's imagination as a patient?
@muditchauhan8174 I think it's a blend of the two personally!! I definitely think he was a patient but I think that scene was supposed to show that they were manipulating Marshall and worsening his condition for the sake of medical science.
Well… this argument doesn’t makes sense. He’s on an island so if he forgot his own lighter or watches he’d have to use someone else’s. MAYBE it can be argued that someone could have gave him a box but they also could have just not gave him some.
Yes he was mentally ill.
But why the hell they put Ben Kingsley as Dr. John (bald doctor), I mean I've seen his so many antagonist roles that I still think he's cheating with Marshall🤣🤣
Mental sanitorium is redundant.
He also had a toy gun and fake dime store badge, but yeah, ok.
He had matches though
I still think they trapped him on the island 🤣😅 but yeah after many watches over. It was nice picking up on these things
He is an ex marshal.
Also was the only person to wear baggy clothes which shows they gave him anything they had prior to the experiment
Mental patients shouldn’t have matches either yet he does lol
So glad I scrolled before the spoiler of the ending
Doesn't he always have matches?
Incredible Movie❤❤
I’m confused, I thought it was that they had drugged him to confuse him into thinking he was a patient. They were about to let him leave but he decided to save his partner, I figured at that point they decided he couldn’t leave to tell what he saw.
His “partner” was the one signaling the doctors that Andrew was still believing he was Teddy.
Lol have you seen the movie?
@@840happycamper840 Yeah but I always thought the doctors were trying to trick him.
The best n crazy plottwist movie 😅
Also because people lady after talking to him, like it’s some joke.
I thought it was he wasn’t crazy the whole time
He's not a patient
Nah he got effed
But he burn Matchstick In ward C During searching
What about that fire
Is he really a pacient?
So why he gave a kite fire 🔥
Yeah if u rewatch theres like a million hints haha its genius man
But they can have matches.. bruh
But matchstick when he went to ward c , and met Noyce
But he weared a gun?
If my memory is correct it was a toy.
He is though?
Great movie plot
There are a million things that hint towards him being a patient you can't just discypher it with this one detail
At least add a spoiler alert, you just out here ruining one of the best twists in cinema history.
Bro, spoiler alert. JK, great movie
They all have matches and actually he had a box of matches in ward C how tf did he keep lighting up George Noyces cell lol cmon man
But he can have a gun?
Sorry but they tricked ya. Teddy is real he was fooled into believing he was insane , had they not tricked him into that they probably woulda just killed or lobotomized him. Thats why in the end when he says to chuck somethings wrong with this place cawley looks concerned. Also the cigarettes were laced w something they took his in some way so he would rely on the laced cigs, did yall even actually watch the movie
Hopefully anyone who hasn’t seen the movie didn’t see this. Plot given away in .5 seconds lol
You are seeing it from the prisoner viewpoint. I am seeing it from the cop viewpoint. It was not a dream. Have you ever watched A Cure for Welness? This mind games they are playing with you when you are a high Freemason.
I swear he has matches when he goes into the fort on his own and finds noise so this is bullshit
Simply a movie fan here, but is this not the same plot as the Jim Sturgis movie ‘Rockhurst Asylum’? Who took Inspiration is irrelevant, an interesting concept with ample room for both
Spoilers man damn
Ngl this movie gave me a migraine which is way worse than what teddy exeprienced 😑
He has matches so this is all wrong.
Maybe I need admitted to Shutter Island but I still want to believe he is actually a US Marshal and he was actually being tricked 😌
He can’t carry a lighter but can carry a lit cigarette? 😏 let’s just say I know a fire can be started with a lit cigarette.
No. You're wrong. You don't know what you're talking about.
WHATEVER. I Still Believe Teddy was US MARSHALL. Since he imagined everything, how we know the ending wasn't imagined, a delusion.... 🤷🏽♂️ they drugged him and didn't let Him off the island. Trying to make everyone think they crazy just because they say so. Smh
IT DID ANNOY ME WHY HE NEVER LIT HIS OWN FAG BUT NEVER PICKED UP THAT WOULD BE WHY.
BOOOOOOOO! NEVER GIVE AWAY PLOT TWISTS
youre very confused loo
Well done for ruining the movie for anyone that hasn't seen it.
Thumbs down 👎👎
It's like 15 yrs old. Lol
Also the title/caption or whatever clearly says "did you know in..."😅 why would someone click that before watching the movie
@@rug4565 If they scrolled to it without knowing the contents of the video.
