A friend and a buddy of his were crawling the New Orleans music joints looking for another buddy playing a gig. They were rather in it, drinks wise. But they got somewhere (iirc, he thinks it was "The Howlin' Wolf" like I said, drinks had been had) and some skinny kid in a hat was wailing away on a guitar, and the next song was this. Mary Had A Little Lamb.They had stumbled on SRV before most anyone knew who he was. They never did find their buddy's gig. They stayed until being chased out.
SRV is one of my two biggest regrets. Those that I had the chance to see and didnt. Him and any real version of Black Sabbath. Lived in LA area 1986-1991 and he hit there a couple times. Not near the same thing, but did see Jimmy Vaughn with Clapton in the early 90s in St Louis....but as awesome as that was....SRV would have been generations above it.
I was blessed to be standing directly under him at the front of the stage, such that his sweat got on me and I touched his alligator boots, (on the down-low.) He died two weeks later. Still not over it. He had been my bucket list for 6 years. What a loss. 😪
You should also check out the band that was formed after Steve's death called the Arc Angels. Made up of Chris and Tommy (drums and bass here) and 2 of his common collaborators Charlie Sexton and Doyle Bramhall II. All hailing from the Austin music scene, it was an awesome supergroup. "Sent By Angels" was their main single. Certainly worth a listen and hopefully a reaction.
This performance is mind blowing but also makes me sad when I think of what a talented guitarist and man Stevie was. RIP ❤ I recommend Riviera Paradise it’s a beautiful, magical performance perfected by Stevie. Divine!

The tremelo-picking instrument that was heard/reacted to is one of Reese's keyboards; a vintage Hammond B3 (or related model) tube-amplified drawbar organ driven through a Leslie rotating speaker, then miked into the PA mix with everything else.

My most favorite song from Stevie is his original Riveria Paradise. He worked on it for years but perfected it after his own rehab and recovery (late 1986). He dedicates it to all those still suffering in any way. It is like receiving a warm, golden hug from this man's soul💫🌟⭐️✨. Stevie spent all the years he had left after recovery helping others do the same. He was on a mission and it still inspires people to this day to get clean, healthy, and happy like Stevie did🫶❣️ Keep falling down this 🐇🐇🐇hole! Always something new and wonderful to discover✌️🌹
It’s an old Buddy Guy song. He was one of Stevie’s big influences and good friends. Reese was an original member of The Allman Brothers Band, before being eased aside for Gregg Allman. He played at their 50th Anniversary Celebration.

SRV was such a talent... can't even imagine what he would've done if he hadn't died so young.
He was intending to move towards a Jazz style after touring with Jimmy on their album promo. More stuff like Riviera Paradise and such.
