We have a large family and I need more room than preprinted planners can offer. There's things I don't use, don't need, and it just costs too much for not working for our family. I find printable planner sheets that work for our family, print them myself, print a pretty cover on cardstock and laminate it, then finally spiral bind it myself. I also use erasable pens and only plan out a week out at a time. My planners come out to be pennies to print and bind myself. I end up using everything I need without any left over pages cuz I only print what I will use. I have a section for homeschooling and a section for house thing, all in one planner.

I definitely am a paper planner person! I actually use 2 planners. I use one to write my plan (not date specific) and one to record what we actually did on each specific date. It works really well for us.

This is our 4th year of homeschooling, and Ive been using the Day Designer planner from Target. It has a good amount of space to write in for everyday and boxes to check off. I’ve have learned to write only in pencil and to only plan 1 day ahead. With a newborn, toddler, and two elementary schoolers you can’t always stay on track as planned.

I “reverse plan” using the file system, super helpful in not feeling overwhelmed and making mistakes in my planner.

I’m a paper girl and was literally getting my last planner ready to shred as I watched this video. 😂 I used to save them, but never looked back at them again! So now when it’s time to switch, I just go through and pull out any relevant notes for the next one, and tear out and save any memory book or baby book stories or notes. My state also requires a portfolio so that will probably end up being the sentimental school thing. 😅

Yes I have always kept my planners even before kids 😂 it's like a journal to go back on and see what all we've done! ❤️

I am a pen and paper girl as well. I love my plum paper homeschool teacher planner and I usually have a personal one for the calendar year. I didn’t get a personal one this year and I regret it SO much. I love having my paper planner.

I'm generally prefer pen and paper too, but for homeschool I use a digital planner (Homeschool Planet) because I know adjustments will be inevitable. I'm currently planning every single lesson for the entire year, and it's a lot of work, but I love the feeling it gives me to have every single laid out for the year. And having to use digital is worth it just to be able to shift things as needed.

Paper girl here- and yes I keep my planners. My goal is to scan in all the other student work I want to keep for records, but I will always keep the physical paper planner to see everything we did in case the digital work somehow gets lost.

I am definitely a paper planner. I have an extremely simple Scholastic yearly planner that I use, planning one week in advance.

I use to be a "write in" planner girl. I got this huge planner from Mardel and it was great! Now, and over the last 5 years, I just do a 36 week YAG planner that I print and edit in word. I only fill in 7 weeks at a time and print off only 12 weeks at a time. I use to only plan a week ahead.

I plan any curriculum I’m making for the year or semester. I do it on computer. Then add the lessons a week at a time or even day at a time depending on the age of the student to a paper planner. I love having a paper planner to prep and look back on what we’ve accomplished. (However, digital can be great for teens). Another note: sometimes in life it’s great to just write down what you did each day and maybe some notes for the next day verses “planning” in your planner.

I saw a past video you did, talking about the Mardel Planner. I bought one for last year and really liked it, it helped out SO much. I am keeping all of my future planners too. I will be using Mardel this year too but am trying to look for an easy digital planner that my husband can use, if I get sick or something unexpected happens again because digital is easier for him. I never plan more than a week to a week and a half at a time. Our first year of homeschooling, I planned for months out and there was an unexpected, sad life event that changed our schedules for over 4 months. During that time, I couldn't plan out for more than a day to several days at a time.

I like paper and pen too, I used Mardel last year, but this year I felt like I needed an easy way to plan the whole year while still being able to adjust frequently. So I’m doing homeschool planet but printing out the weekly check lists that I’ll put on a clipboard for each kid and then group stuff I need to complete with them on mine. Then before the new week starts I’ll go in and reschedule the stuff we didn’t get done before printing the new week. I also plan on having a simple weekly page to jot down any extras we do that weren’t pre-planned. Crossing my fingers that it works!

Old fashioned paper planner girl here! I’m more of a visual learner so seeing things helps me remember. I got the Mardel planner because I watched your video from a year ago and loved it! I got the farmhouse one but without the preprinted dates. I think they were out of the other one that had them already on there. It’s been great! I homeschool year round and use it for everything as well! Enjoy all your videos and your fb group has been so helpful to me! This is my first year homeschooling and I was so overwhelmed at first, you and your group have helped me not stress and enjoy it!

I like to plan it digitally and print it out. I think you have inspired me to print out one semester at a time this year instead of the whole year, so that I can go back and change if/when needed.

This will be our first official year of homeschooling using a curriculum. Last year, we just did unschooling to get them out of the "school" thinking. I have chosen the Mardel planner and sounds like I chose a winner!!! Love seeing your videos and wish I could meet you in person. I feel like I have a best friend right on my computer :)

Mardel planner is my jam too!!! For me, it confuses me to mix it homeschool/personal. For homeschool the Simple Plan and personal I use EC. My mind needs to keep things separate. I am a paper and pen girl too.

I am still wrapping up our first year of homeschooling, thank goodness we don’t report kinder here! But I bought a simple plan to use when my last cheap planner ran out in June. I have an enormous fear of commitment seeing as how our first year went (sold our house, hubby and I separated, and both littles were diagnosed ASD) so I’m terrified to plan and have it all get backed up. Thank you for validating my fear! 😂 A week or two sounds a lot less intimidating and still sounds reasonable. For the last 8 months I’ve been writing what each child did that day so I could keep track where to start the next day. But I don’t feel like that holds me accountable for finishing a curriculum in a reasonable amount of time. I got super into a 15 day plant unit and it ended up lasting 2 months! I mean, they learned a lot though!

I think I still want to be over achiever and plan my whole year BUT in a digital format like trello. Then I have what I want to do already written down for the year. we have the same planner for this year. Last year I wrote what I wanted to do for the week like that sunday or maybe 2 weeks in advance. sometimes I would plan in reverse haha.

I will never buy an expensive planner like Plum Paper again. I enjoyed the customization, but still felt I couldn't customize it enough. I have now embraced the full sheet sticker paper, and just stick in what I need and want. Also I have learned to "reserve plan" and only loosely plan out our science units just to make sure I have enough units.

Question….I’ll be homeschooling for the first time this school year. I’ve always wanted to be a “planner” girl. Just curious why does a planner help or what is it for? I feel like using a planner would be rewriting what’s already been provided in the curriculum especially if it gives you a day by day structure of what’s to be done.

I use onestopplanner. I make a monthly list of activities (loosely organised by month) and that's my "plan". I then reverse plan into the main planner.
