Thank you for doing this video. My set had a disc that chipped off a portion of the tooth that locks the plate. I was wondering if you have a DIY repair video on the discs too? Thanks again
Glad to help, Yoshua. Hopefully it's a relatively simple repair for you. Definitely worth a try versus paying for another OEM dial. Prior to 2019, I tried a few different types of repairs on the OEM discs, but nothing ever lasted long. Some repairs broke immediately after the first use, and others lasted a few days or weeks. But then I found myself right back where I had started. Glue by itself provided no structure on a disc already weakened by the crack(s).. Gluing objects such as washers to the front or back of the discs to span the cracks interferes with using the dumbbells depending on where the discs cracked. 3D printed discs are available for 552 only and vary widely in their fit, strength and durability. I did a recent load test on some 3D printed discs. You can find that here: ua-cam.com/video/4MgMvgJQO2I/v-deo.html So I eventually got fed up with it and just designed my own and had them made in aluminum. You can learn more about my discs here: www.averagejoeinnovations.com If you do try the repair in the video above, I hope you will return here and let folks know how it turned out for you...good, bad, easy, difficult. And good luck with the repair!
So what do you recommend for when the lugs have broken off into their holes? That happened to all three of my lugs and I can’t seem to dig them out. Any suggestions?
Hi Brandon. Sometimes flipping the disc over and tapping it with something other than your hand, for example the handle of a screwdriver) will get them to fall out. If that doesn't work, try sticking a sharp blade into the center of the broken lug and pull. The blade sometimes grabs the plastic just enough to do the trick. I would try those first.
Man, you’re a true legend !!
Ha! You're too kind. But, thanks man, I appreciate it. Cheers, and happy holidays!
