I am absolutely floored that they made Tad Strange the fan-made version of Bill cipher completely canon and am absolutely blown away that nobody talks about it. I had no idea until this moment.
Now that the box set is discontinued, Disney really should just dump the exclusives on Disney+ given it'll give fans new stuff to watch and probably reach it out to a wider audience than just Canada and the US. But of course, we all know logic and Disney go about as well as orange juice and toothpaste.
And here I was thinking I’d cracked every code in “Lost Legends.” Alex Hirsch may just be one of the most dedicated show runners I’ve ever come across. Seriously, the amount of work he put into this show before, during, and after its run is insane!
crazy how a new code in the silly straw page on the book of bill needed you to watch gravity falls and watch each episode that the number says and watch the timestamps too causing you to find a word in multiple episodes saying "Twisted out of shape after the kill the ghost of his family are haunting him still" and people still can't solve it
Watching this and in it saying "the last gravity falls code" when the Book of Bill came out not so long ago made me realise that any time we think the show 100% ended and its world was already fully shared, Alex drops another thing and expands it. And I rhink that's pretty cool
When I got my lost legends book I went over it with a fine toothed comb several times and found all the codes, but that Shmeb-you-unlocked one eluded me for a long time
I remember some ex friends talking about it for a while and we always were amazed at how complex the code was. I ended up honestly learning about it from others but it was fun to decode the other ciphers in LL.
Codes in Amphibia and Owl House: While I haven't watched Amphibia, I'm well aware of its GF homage. I heard it had 2 Caesar ciphers 3 letters forward, giving us "Dipcifica 4 Lyfe" ('cause Braly was her redemption), and "There is a Soos in every dimension." (Where's TOH's?) Owl House doing its acronyms from episode titles for A WITCH LOSES A TRUE WAY SEEK THE KEY FEAR THE LOCK (also the S2 is PAIN), and S3 both backwards and Thanks For Watching. Then there's its equivalent of the Vigenere key, the runes giving us, TWO WITCHES TORN APART NOW ALONE TWO HEARTS OF STONE A CURSE OF FEATHERS AND MUD A BETRAYAL OF BLOOD SEETHING SEAS AND PUPPET STRINGS HE NO LONGER DREAMS OF KINGS AS ABOVE RUSH DARKENED SKIES AS BELOW HIS FATHER LIES. These runes' key in both a chalkboard in Ep 3 and other books early on. There maybe names for each rune as recited by the kindergarteners, but I'd have no idea which.. I read a fic called The Vee House where she learns them. Unlike GF swapping out a letter, the runes are a specific sound (homophones spelled the same) and functions like the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Having recently discovered it all while having a niche for phonics and letters. :)

I remember cracking this for the first time when lost legends came out! It was incredible, they put so much into these books. I only got into gravity falls in 2017 so after the show ended, but I've cracked nearly every code across the show and the books and other media. It got me way into cryptography and I love codes and cryptograms to this day.

I think next time You should Probably talk the influence of Gravity falls codes in the decoding of runes in the owl house… what each first letter of every episodes spells… And the language system in Amphibia and The Gravity falls crossover messages in there too
The gravity paws reverse bill message made me feel like the triangular terror was putting some sort of hex or curse on me and had me genuinely unnerved.
Funny thing is that I recorded some of the lines for this video after the Alex interview already happened but before he told us about the Book of Bill. So, I kinda had no idea despite talking to the guy himself, lmao
The Hebrew edition of blendins code is just the translated code but flipped (so you could read it by using a mirror), didn’t know it was a cypher! All of the other codes were also simplified
@@greenstarlover1 gravity falls localizations are always interesting to me since there is a LOT of pun humor in the series and it’s always fun to see how they deal with that. Cyphers are also hard to convert.
Did anyone ever decipher what those boxes in the margins of the journal mean? There’s more in the Book of Bill and it doesn’t seem that any of them from the journal were solved.

Fun fact: Journal 3 was not destroyed, Stan made a copy of it when dipper gave it to him, and only one journal 3 was destroyed by bill
In journal 3, at the end it says that when bill was vanquished, the journals were restored and were tossed into the bottomless pit
