"What's that?"
"Cannon fuse..."
"Why did you have that?"
"For my Cannon..."
Makes sense
The quote is right in the video and you still got it wrong
Love burt
My dad made his own cannon on a lathe.
I had an interesting childhood.
@@Nasty-Canasta Well, part of the quote...
What I love about this movie is that only 1 person acts like an idiot, and that's the teenager (Who ceases acting like an idiot once he's almost eaten)
Everybody acts entirely logically and intelligently based on the knowledge they have at the time
And they co-operate resourcefully and successfully! Even the short disagreement is defused quickly.
Honestly, I love and agree with both of your comments. I accept that people can sometimes react irrationally in the heat of the moment, but by and large, we can generally figure out through survival instinct what the best course of action is. It irritates me when movie characters make bad choice after bad choice straight into the lion's mouth, because it's not realistic.
@@underAtackA sadly classic horror trope is everyone separating after they know a monster is out there.
Yes, absolutely. You nailed it. Great comments in the thread. I saw it on home video VHS and everyone that has ever caught it loves it.
Cheers 🍺
Yes! Everyone makes the same decisions the viewer would make based on the info the character has at the time. Perfect.
The only "horror movie" where nobody is stupid.
Including the monster.
Welllllll… the teenage boy was kinda stupid… so was the guy using the tire lol
@@NestorCasterBurt is kinda stupid too at times.
With all respect I disagree I think that kid is stupid
@@eshuorishas9987 No kidding. I always laugh at the part where he shoots the elephant gun downwards without ripping his arm off...
This movie is taught in film writing classes as an example of some of the best screen writing in existence. legit, not a single "pointless" line, not a single visual wasted, this might just be the tightest script and directing production in hollywood history. which is hilarious since it's a schlocky monster movie. even the very first scene in the movie. It's where they kill the last one, there are cows so they can have the stampede conversation, and he's pissing off the edge of the cliff... this movie is 100% tight and on schedule from the opening scene.
Before the horses are taken down, the shot of them riding pans out just enough to see the ditch they jump in as they pass it.
You could say the same thing about Back to the Future.
Wow I never knew that about Tremors. I loved this since the first time I watched it in the 90s.
@@handsomeDRAC And Terminator
From what I know “pulp fiction” is the end all be all for screenplays. It’s regarded as the perfect script but I can see how tremors can be up there too, for horror at least
When my daughter was around 6 she caught me watching this and joined me. Every pet we have had since she has named Burt
Burt Gummer is one of the greatest cinematic characters of all time.
I watched this as a little kid and just thought it was cool, I didn't get scared of tremors like I did of Jason or Freddy. Wondering how soon I can introduce this to my own kid. 5 or 6 sounds about right
Aww that's so cute that the character stood out for ur daughter!
A woman of culture, I see!
My daughter was 4 and walked in on me watching Friday The 13th: Jason Takes Manhattan. Before I could hit pause, she got to see Jason knock that boxer dude's head off. I currently sit here with her just turned 10 years old boxer/mastiff's giant ass head on my lap. She named him Jason Voorhees Junior lol.
RIP to Fred Ward who played Earl Basset and Victor Wong who played Walter Chang.
This movie takes place in Nevada and not New Mexico where Breaking Bad is.
Victor Wong died a day after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, so nobody remembered him 😢
@HigHrvatski He was the Grandpa in the "3 Ninja Movies"
Fred Ward with Joel Grey in Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins is a schlocky cheesefest of glorious fun and is not to be missed.
@@donrichards271 Corky Romano, Naked Gun 3, and Road Trip also starred Fred Ward
The movie takes place and was filmed in Arizona, well most of the scenes. They even mention Arizona also in the movie.
"I'm viciously hung over", says Simone as she looks more bright and lively than I ever do.
EDIT: To be clear, I'm not suggesting Simone's lying or anything, I'm just jealous she can look and sound this good while being so hungover!
Yeah, I'm curious what she was drinking.
She's probably just dehydrated. I had probably the worst hangover of my life about a month ago, and I could not have done a reaction video during that time. I spent the day lying on my bed and occasionally vomiting. Eat before you drink, folks!
16:58 One of the greatest cinematic reveals of all time. Just a fucking wall of firepower 😂😂
When I saw this in the theater, everyone was either laughing or gasping as soon as that wall of destruction showed up. When the graboid was killed, we cheered followed by laughing at Burt's comment about the wrong rec room.
It's absolutely beautiful
"Well, I guess we can't make fun of Burt's lifestyle anymore."
Yes, it's the perfect shot, and perfectly timed too. Masterful composition and camera work.
There's no need for cursing.😢
Ha! I'm fucking kidding! Curse like you mean it!
The little girl was also in Jurassic Park
The actor who played Burt(Michael Gross) is most famous for playing the dad in the 80’s sitcoms Family Ties which is the show that made Michael J Fox famous.
Michael Gross being more like his Family Ties character IRL than Burt is so funny to me. Makes Burt into a satire of libertarian gun nuts.
I would say he's most famous for being in Tremors now AND it's SIX SEQUELS.
It's funny how he went from playing the most famous liberal ex-hippie on TV to playing Burt freaking Gummer. The guy's got some acting range.
@@LordVolkov How is it satire? They saved the day. It glorifies us
actually he's more famous for being in 6 more Tremors movies and it's TV show
my favorite part is when Burt gives the kid the empty revolver and he still checks to see if its empty when he gets it back. Subtle attention to detail in portraying a true gun nut
It is a firearm. It is always loaded until you have checked to determine that it is not for yourself. Period. Every time.
Ask Mr Baldwin
One of the first rules of gun safety, always check the gun yourself. Make the safety rules a habit
Yeah, it's one of the only times that I have seen an actor actually safety check a firearm. It's done so well that I have always wondered if it was solely reflex by Michael Gross or by direction. It's a little point that only someone who has experience with firearms would really notice.
The producer S.S. Wilson is a big gun nut and an advocate for gun safety and that was one of his big things about these movies. Well 1-4 anyway.
They had the same issue so many movies do when shooting guns in enclosed spaces without ear protection... After all that shooting in the basement they should have had some ringing ears/temporary hearing loss, right?
When she puts the keys in her mouth so they can drive off as fast as possible is the only time I’ve seen someone use real logic in a movie
This movie is actually quite full of logical behaviors and actions
I agree, even when she's tangled in the barbed wire taking the pants off was the fastest solution.
I 100% would have tried to have them in my hand. And then dropped them.
One of the few that doesn't include "Quick, do the dumbest thing possible in order to advance the plot." See almost every teen slasher/horror movie of the 80'/90's.
The characters aren't geniuses, but at least you believe they got a high enough grade in Sandbox to graduate from kindergarten.
This remains one of the best horror-comidies ever: not a wasted line, not a poitless shot, great creature desighn, on-point campy acting. 10/10.
Except that it's not horror. It's action/comedy with monsters.
Burt became so popular, that from the 3rd movie onward (including the tv series) he became not only the main character, but the face of the franchise.
mostly because he was only one who kept recurring in all the movies.
Burt Gummer *Patron Saint of Preppers!* 🤣
There's more than one movie???
@@kimghanson there's 8. Though personally after 3, it's hit and miss in terms of quality.
I don't think they are ever as good as the first one, but some of them are quite good.
@@terryhiggins5077the 4th was quite funny imho.
"Food for five years, a thousand gallons of gas, air filtration, water filtration, Geiger counter. Bomb shelter...
.....underground goddamn monsters."
See, burt should know you can't store gasoline like that. It goes "stale" after a few months. You can mix in an additive to recover some of the octane but after a year it's basically sludge
Depends how quickly he intends to go through it. Might have been planned for Molotovs on early looters.
From a technical standpoint, Tremors is just about as close to “Perfection” as you can get.
FunFact: the actress that plays Mindy is Ariana Richards, she played Lex from Jurassic Park but she's younger
and she returned for Tremors 3: Back to Perfection. she's retired from acting and is an artist, she did some pieces of art of the characters for the Jurassic Park Bluray
@@synaesthesia2010 IKR! at least she's doing something with her free time now
The gun rec room scene is simply legendary! Gotta love this movie. You got Kevin Bacon (six degrees from everybody), the always awesome Fred Ward and his bitter gaze, and even Grandpa from 3 Ninjas. And against every odd they even have Reba McEntire.
I cannot think of the word rec room without seeing Burt.
The white stuff on her nose is zinc oxide, it forms a physical barrier to UV rays and does not 'rub in.' it was the go-to sun screen prior to SPF formulae screens and, combined with titanium dioxide still does a great job at blocking UVA and UVB.
The Army gave us that stuff to put on our nose and ears when I took basic training at Ft Bliss in the summer of 1977. Unfortunately, they gave it too late to prevent a lot of burned noses and ears. Mine burned and peeled twice.
On people with especially pale skin ... this was a "go to" anti-sunburn stuff - often applied just on the nose because hats and other "shade wear" would still leave those spots JUST exposed enough to still get a bad burn. On a lot of old style "beach" movies - there would be at least one character with a nose covered in zinc oxide
I remember they sold it in all sorts of colours, and I'd see life guards wearing it in fluorescent yellow. Only tried it once myself though as I had an allergic reaction and got a red rash on my nose.
@@stefanlaskowski6660 Thank you for your service. I hope you're getting regularly checked for melanoma.
I remember when I was a young teenager I used to hang out with a couple of my friends nearly all summer pretty much every summer and we would go swimming A LOT. My friends mom would insist we wear it. Sh would always put his on our nose and sometimes ears before we went into he water. Of coarse me thinking I look completely silly having it on my face and there being lots of attractive women and girls my age. So I would immediately rub it off my face the very first time I duck my head under the water. Of coarse my nose would be sunburnt by time we was done for the day but to me it was worth it (sorta)
My father bought property out in the California high desert once us kids grew up. This movie is a really good example of how desert folk are. My dad actually said living out there was like the movie Tremors. He eventually got some horses and would ride his horse to the bar, acoustic guitar on his back to play open mic night every week. (He made such an impression that the bar hosted his wake for free, liquor as well). Lotta good times up there in the Mojave. The heat is a bit much for me now.
I didnt grow up around guns. I always tried to avoid them living in Santa Monica. Some of the most fun I've had is going up there and some survivalist guy has essentially brought an arsenal to my dad's Sunday BBQ. Yes, he had a cannon there as well. I'm still not a gun person, but I do go skeet shooting every once in a while.
@CineBinge can you guys please react to Sliding Doors (1998) I think you will both enjoy it
Place in Socal called Muscoy. EXTREMELY whatever the new "word" for "Mexican" is now out there. Was passin' through one time on a big, modern city transit bus FILLED with people on their way to the big mall and transfer station in another area.
At one point the bus swings around an intersection, slows down... just stops dead in the middle of a four way and doesn't start back up again for a long several seconds.
Wantin' to know what the hell's going' on I finally look up. Big ass city bus, runnin' on that future fuel shit, big giant glass windows, packed full of people--
And it had to stop in it's tracks for a little old Mexican cowboy to get his horse to amble it's way across the road. I'm FROM out there and even MY ASS recognized it for the moment it was.
i remember asking my mom once, "When did the lady from Tremors start singing country music?"
Reba McEntire had been a country music singer since the 70s.
She has done a bunch of movies and had a short lived TV show.
@@jasonrhodes9726
(sigh)
@jasonrhodes9726 I know that. That was when I was 9, my guy
When he wakes the guy up by shaking the truck, it's foreshadowing the ending of the movie.
And Fred Ward looks like he is cosplaying a worm, in the sleeping bag......
I'm high reading comments and this made me cackle maniacally for a few minutes.
25 goddamn years and I never caught that.
Kind of surprising how the survivalist "gun nut" couple are shown to be a little wacky, but they're helpful and useful and don't come off as really crazy people.
Indeed. Burt is a bit wacky, but he's not stupid and overall he's a definite asset to the group.

My sister and I saw this at the bargain theater on a Friday night about three months after it was released. The place was sold out 10 minutes ahead, and we were all looking for a good time. We got it!! When the Graboid-Cam shots started, we were all screaming, “Ruuuunnnn!!!” We all got so into this. Best time I have ever had at the movie theater.
Hi George and Simone if you want to see how it was made : On YT Channel called Real Deal Productions there are tons of hours of private behind the scenes footage of the actual effects and filming. The videos are called Tremors Lost Tapes, if that helps for finding the right channel. There are 38 videos each about 10 minutes long.
I've seen this movie like 100 times and just now saw the guy who died climbing the tower actually tied his belt around the pole so he wouldn't fall in his sleep. Amazingly nice touch
I've never noticed that either! Good catch.
2:35 ... That's called the " Lightning " technique of hammering ! ( Never strike the same place twice ) 😁
🤣
When Syfy channel had a Tremors spin-off TV series they did a whole website covering the history and life cycle of monster. It is actually a prehistoric squid evolved to live underground. It has an unusual and long life cycle that can take many years, which is why we don't often see them.
It makes sence it's a cephalopod, its inteligent like one
And you can argue the pincers and tongues are derived from tentacles
@@jesusramirezromo2037 Its mouth is also reminiscent of a squid beak. I can see the thought process of the squids tentacles recessing further up into the mouth, to stay out of the way for travel through the dirt.
I love that attention to detail and treat from the writers for the fans of the franchise.
I would recommend reacting to the 1996 horror film Tremors 2: Aftershocks, starring Fred Ward, Christopher Gartin, Helen Shaver, and Michael Gross, if that's OKay? While it doesn't have Kevin Bacon as Val, it does have Fred Ward returning as Earl, who's been hired to deal with a Graboid infestation at a Mexican oilfield. Plus, it has Michael Gross returning as Burt Gummer, which makes Burt more of a main character. It helps cement Burt Gummer as one of the legendary horror heroes and sets Burt up as the main character for the sequels after Tremors 2.
I personally love the whole Tremors series, but I always recommend the first three. If you like the formula, keep watching after that.
It’s a lot of fun and worth watching
Bump for Tremors 2! The rest can take a pass, unless you REALLY love the series, IMHO.
Another vote for Tremors 2. It's my personal favorite of the series. I think it's both funnier and scarier than the original, all while evolving the premise and on a smaller budget. It's a wicked fun movie!
The second movie is so good, I always recommend it after the first.
One thing many people dont notice is a very small gun safety detail. Burt gives Melvin an unloaded gun but when he takes it back he still checks to see that its unloaded
Until recently, I didn't even know the movie's original title being "Tremors".
For decades I knew it only by its German title "Im Land der Raketenwürmer", which translates to "In the Land of the Rocket Worms". 😁
Sounds like a movie from the 60s.
that's as bad as "groundhog day" being "stuck in time" outside the us
@@Bluesit32 True, doesn't it? 😊
@@johnpaullogan1365 Oh, you already consider that bad?
Well, here we go again with the German title for "Groundhog Day".
It is "Und täglich grüßt das Murmeltier", which means "And daily greets the Marmot". 😁
@@tubekulose at least it is not as spoilery
This is one of those movies that’s just straight up fun. It’s to the point, it knows what it is, each character has their part and it just flows so well. I find myself smiling and laughing anytime I watch it.
It's the perfect combination of comedy and horror and does it right. The rest are a bit much but still worth the watch, love the 2nd one tho
This film is a masterclass in set up & pay off, right from the start with the "stampede!", the gun wall because they're preppers, the Cat, the noisy refrigerator, etc
Fred Ward is so great. He was in so many movies. Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins is a good one where he was the lead.
When they made this film it was called "Dead Silence" and it was done more as a horror film. It was only after they filmed it that they decided to cut it in a way that emphasized the comedy of Val and Earl and changed the title to "Tremors."
If I remember correctly, this is how the soundtrack wound up so unique because it was scored by two separate people(one cinematic and dramatic and the other more country vibes) at different phases of production and they had to sort of piece it together
To think this film's director (Ron Underwood) would direct an Oscar-winning performance the very next year- specifically Jack Palance in "City Slickers". I do remember reading recently, since I'd only seen the film for the first time weeks ago that Billy Crystal had selected Underwood to direct that movie based on his work here. There's another one for the backlog!
Words cannot express how awesome this film is, for being so simple, direct and absolutely on-point… and although Stan Winston wasn’t involved in the creature FX for this piece of cinematic perfection, two of his protégés were. Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr. had been two of the main guys at Stan Winston Studios but had recently started up their own studio (Amalgamated Dynamics Inc.). Tremors was their first movie, and what a debut! When it comes to fun monster movies about underground triple-snake-tongued worms, accept no substitute 👌
Can we take a second to appreciate the fact that Reba knows her guns!
As does Michael Gross, then famous for playing the lefty father in _Family Ties._
Take a shot every time Heather says "Penetration" 😂
In the scene when they're around the truck with the tentacle, there are some bad edits where Reba disappears and reappears a couple of times, sometimes on the other side of the truck.
@@wwoods66 He also played a very officious character in Jet/Ground Control.
Loved tremors, one I like to go back to every few years. Fred Ward was really good in this, I've recommended another film he was in 'The right stuff' before; about the Mercury program (precursor to Gemini and Apollo) . It stars a favorite of yours Ed Harris as well as a host of familiar faces, can't recommend it highly enough.
I second the recommendation for "the Right Stuff".
What about Remo, the adventure begins? Stupid but fun.
i also like him in Remo Unarmed and Dangerous
For sure, more people need to react to The Right Stuff, a cinema classic as far as I'm concerned.
THE RIGHT STUFF is a friggin' AMAZING film!
The pole vaulting scene was shot in the Alabama Hills, located in Lone Pine, CA, situated on RTE 395. The hills, comprised of rock formations and scrub brush, have been used by Hollywood for films and tv series since the 1910s! Although primarily a setting for Westerns, it’s also been used for sci-fi and dramas.
There’s a really fun film & TV museum there, with donated items from Quentin Tarantino (he loves shooting there). Plus an annual film festival!
My favorite little bit of trivia is to point out the Horseshoe Meadow Road on the mountainside in the background of several scenes in Gunga Din (1939).
The Alabama Hills also show up briefly in Gladiator, and Mt Whitney shows up in Maverick (with Mel Gibson). I was stopped on the Whitney Portal Road during production of that one.
I think Trial And Error (Jeff Daniels and Michael Richards) featured the Owens Valley the most in any movie I've seen.
Tremors is what happens when depsite having little budget, a movie is in the hands of capable people, with a tight script and a cast that brings their A game.
It as enough campyness to be fun, but enough action, thriller and horror to have you on the edge of your seat.
Its simple, to the point, doesn't waste any of its shots and it gives you a really great movie.
Agreed that makes it great, some movies the campyness is just bad ie the happening just straight dumb, this movie does it right and that makes it a cult classic
The wood for the pole vaulting was the wood set aside for building the fences. They were stuck out exactly where they started!
I love that all of these movies are on UA-cam for free right now
I actually got handed free tickets to the pre-showing of _Tremors_ while just walking through Edmonton City Centre mall. Had no clue what it was about, but it instantly became one of my favorite monster movies of all time. The viewing was just so fun! People cheering and screaming and laughing. Don't think I've had that pure-fun shared movie going experience since.
7:46 Chisel, George. It’s a chisel. A pneumatic sword would be too anime for road work. Nothing’d get done, just a lot of bishonen-looking i hi-viz vests dramatically posing with the equipment. And the all have ill moms.
FUN FACT: The "died of dehydration" guy was Patrick Swayze's landlord in Road House.
"Looks like you broke into the wrong goddamn rec room!"
Such a fun movie. The second one is also lots of fun, and the third one isn't bad. Also lots of fun is the short-lived TV series.
Two and Three also captured that fun element. Four and Five got a bit too much.
4th is hilarious, Michael Gross at his best.
Tremors is one of my all time favorite movies. It knows exactly what it is and what it is trying to do, and leans into it with no shame and a twinkle in its eye. And it was made right before CGI became advanced enough to be a feasible tool for the kind of effects the movie calls for, so everything is practical, meaning the movie still looks awesome to this day, while movies made just a few years later look dated as hell. The chemistry between Val and Earl is perfect, and the movie balances the horror and the comedy wonderfully, whilst also balancing invoking a bunch of horror movie tropes and subverting others.
One of the brilliant parts of this movie is that the opening faux stampede and Earl falling out of the truck in his sleeping bag is a direct reference to the bomb 'stampede' at the end and the graboid falling off the cliff. Little things like that make me absolutely love this film.
Watching this movie hundreds of the since it was released and I now just learned something new.... Thanks
I love both this movie and the second one. Both are amusing horror. I’d also recommend “Eight-Legged Freaks.” All the best creature flicks happen in the dessert.
Tremors and its five sequels (and one prequel) are just good, campy fun. I think Michael Gross (Burt Gummer) is the only one who is in all of them.
He is.
"I did a dumb dumb and now I am viciously hungover."
I officially have a new favorite go to excuse for why I am not going to go out. 😜
a similar film is the deep rising of 1998, only there the events take place on the water
I love that movie!
And the post-credit scene set up a sequel that would have been AWESOME!
Regarding the effects, this was the company's first full length movie. They submitted their artwork ideas and got the gig, I want to say it was maybe 3-5 people total.
They did pretty well for themselves, they got nominated for an Oscar for Alien 3 and then won one for Death Becomes Her.
"Tremors": One of those movies you NEVER expect to actually be good, but turns out to be amazing, and you can't stop rewatching it.
I love the deep dive Kevin Bacon takes in the first moments. Kevin Bacon is so awesome he doesn't need electricity or an antenna to use a CB radio! Those are some mean mother humpers!
Well Kevin Bacon IS Earth's greatest hero after all.
The second Tremors film was also good and had several returning characters.
Three did as well though I'd say stay 4 they lose their appeal and quality
Did it get a theatrical release or go straight to video /dvd?
@@A-small-amount-of-peas all the sequels were direct to video. Only the first movie was in theaters.
Tremors spawned multiple sequels and multiple prequels. The prequels go all the way back to the Old West, showing the origin of the creature, the town of Perfection and ancestors of many of the characters. Tremors also inspired a very good TV series. Throughout the many sequels, the creature evolves to become even deadlier. The filmmakers know how to have fun with the franchise, so I had fun and loved most of them. The young girl with the pogo stick is the young girl in Jurassic Park. Melvin, the boy who cried wolf, continue the character in the series. Michael Gross Bert Gummer becomes producer and continues the character, in the sequels and prequels, becoming a legendary monster hunter. Walter the store owner eaten by the 'Graboid', his daughter takes over the store in the series. Miguel's daughter is also a regular cast member in the series.
There's only one prequel.
@@filthycasual8187 Yes. Got cut off and couldn’t edit. Thanks.
The creatures had to change and evolve because Burt was set up as the ultimate in preparation. So much so that if the creatires didn't evolve and change, it would've been pretty boring. They had to keep throwing curves at Burt so they could challenge him with something he wasn't ready for. He was always denied critical, need-to-know information!😁

Fred Ward was in another forgotten classic called "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins" - which was intended to start a franchise (based on a lon-running book series) but underperformed at the box office - but was also just a ton of fun. I actually saw it in the theater and enjoyed it so much it became one of my go-tos back when video rental was a thing 😁 - I still hold it up as one of the greatest action movies of the 80's. It was one of those video-store hits that got enough views to even get a tv series attempted a few years after the movie tanked in the theaters.
One caveat is that it did feature a white actor (Joel Grey) playing the Korean martial arts instructor of the titular hero, so go in prepared for that, and behind a couple of stereotypical traits common in 80's cinema (like Ls pronounced with Rs - which were foisted on many actors playing Asian characters back then, regardless of ethnicity) was a very memorable, engaging character who I still remember very fondly when I think of the movie.
I've read many comments on retrospectives on YT for the movie where Asian fans were dumbfounded to find all this out after the fact - including myself - I don't think I stumbled across that until the advent of IMDB when hyperlinking made it possible to easily access the career trajectory of people in all of our favorite films.
Such a great little movie. I've heard this described as a near perfect movie. It has the right amount of humor, terror, drama. The pacing is spot on and doesn't drag, the quality of the effects, the production size, character background, all hit in the right amount.
"Was this made for TV?"
Funny you mention that. I don't think it was, but it was on TV a LOT back in the day. I think at least some of the sequels were made for TV/Straight to DVD.
Fantastic creature feature sci-fi horror valentine to '50s/'60s genre flicks. Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr. designed the creatures and built the full-size puppets, while the Oscar-winning Skotak brothers realized the graboids for miniature shots. Funny that Bacon at first thought this film was beneath him but when it became a hit and cult-classic he's embraced it and said it's one of his faves. Fred Ward was a fantastic character actor/tough guy and the few comedies - like this one - he shined. They made a great DynamicDuo. Hope Simone recovers from her hangover :D xo
Oh my god! Thank you so much for watching this one! It's a '50s sci-fi horror movie made in the '90s. Goofy, funny, terrifying, and unexpectedly heart-warming. Even with some overacting and plot conveniences, it never once feels insincere. I love this movie!
This movie is magic and very special to me! This movie is one of my mothers favorite and we repeatedly watched a dozen times a year. The magic was never repeated in any sequels or the attempted tv pilot. Val and Earl remain the greatest on-screen duo in cinema!!!
Burt Gummer was my idol growing up because of these first two movies. I bought a military M35a1 Deuce and a half as my first ever vehicle, because of Tremors 2, and owned about 20 various firearms by the time I turned 18. He is and always will be my idol!
After watching Tremors you have to watch Screamers (1995) Starring Peter Weller (Robocop). ❤
Ariana Richards, who played Mindy, is best known for her role in _Jurassic Park,_ so she spent a lot of her acting career running from monsters. She mostly stopped acting when she grew up.
Michael Gross was just off his 7 year stint on _Family Ties,_ as the very liberal PBS station manager father in a family sitcom, so playing Bert was very much a deliberate playing-against-type choice for him.
I have seen this movie so many times and I still love it. I love the humor and that the movie is actually quite relatable, because how the people reacts when there is that new (weird) threat and no stubid blod running screaming in the wrong way is just a good bonus. Though in reality there is no Grabboids. And by the way, this movie was originally going to be called Landshark. But they changed the name anyway and that's good.
And anyway, I like the chemistry between Val and Earl. And also how Val falls in love with Rhonda, even though he tries to pretend otherwise at first. That maybe he finally realised that it's not the appearance, but what's inside that counts. :)
loved it as a kid.
I didn't know that there was a Tremors TV series ,with Christopher Lloyd😊.
RIP Fred Ward. Want a really good, bad, Fred Ward movie? Remo Williams. I remember reading the books back in the 80’s and soooo looking forward to it coming to film.
And then…
For a film that was supposed to be a homage to the B-movie creature features of the 50s Tremors actually stands up as a “proper” film. The script is tight with a good plot and character development but it has just enough self awareness to not come across as cheesy. The actors all give good performances. As an advertisement for practical effects even now although the practical monsters look slightly shonky it doesn’t destroy the immersion like bad/old cgi would.
FYI fun fact. The little blonde girl in Tremors is the same actress who later played John Hammond's teenage granddaughter in Jurassic Park. Her name is Ariana Richards.
This movie is basically a Quiet Place before A Quiet Place was a thing. (It's clearly more Land Jaws than anything, but still.)
The Graboids in the film are attracted to vibrations or loud noises, which cause more vibrations. (This is an obvious plot point, but hang with me.)
The first part of the movie puts a focus on how much noise they make, even when they aren't talking. They're stomping and kicking garbage around when looking for that old couple who were sucked into the ground.
They aren't nearly as sound sensitive as the creatures in A Quiet Place, but they follow a similar logic to their design since they're both blind.
Fantastic movie, it's just the right amount of comedy and horror. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and is just an all-around good time.
Glad you two gave it the time.
Going way out on a useless trivia limb here, but anyone of a certain age might recognize the actor who played Melvin, the teenager, and several of his siblings, as staples of 70s and 80s TV and movies, especially after school specials. The trivia I'm thinking of is that his oldest brother played Dorothy's son on Golden Girls, and another of his older brothers played Blanche's grandson in a different episode of Golden Girls. His oldest brother also co-starred in The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane, but I don't expect anyone to know what the means...that movie scared the crap out of me.
The Elephant gun was a William Moore & Co. 8 gauge double barrel shotgun loaded with solid slugs. It has an impact force by 6720 feet, for comparison, your typical 12 gauge is around 2700. That means if you’re wearing full body armor the slug may not penetrate your flesh. But the force behind that slug will turn your spine into jelly and literally break you in half. It’s like being hit with a car going 200 kph. Now if Burt wanted some real fire power, he could go for a .700 nitro express. It has a 1000 grain cartridge. For reference a .50 BMG has about 647 grain. it is one of the only a few weapons rated to kill dragons.
In the movie, the lost world, Jurassic Park Roland, was using a .600 nitro express his character was influenced from African safari expert and a hero of Steven Spielberg’s they are pretty damn rare and made and small numbers. Spielberg for that movie two of them were built, and one of them is still owned by Steven himself. If you want to see how cool this rifle is in real life check out Kentucky Ballistics review of the .700 nitro express.
@@davidstalley384 You don’t know much about the gun industry do you? Believe it or not, there was a time where they had a sense of humor. The reason why it’s rated for killing dragons is because there is literally nothing on this earth that can survive being shot by a .600 nitro. The .577 is rated to kill tyrannosaurus. Hence the name.
One of the greatest monster movies ever made, hands down. Iconic monster, tight script, great cast and even genuine comedy!
Not only do I love this movie because it's a really enjoyable movie, but also because this is a MASTERFULLY produced movie. Very low budget with EXTREMELY talented producers (like cinema legend Gale Ann Hurd). It's so smartly written, produced, and directed.
I love the entire ''Tremors'' franchise! Unapologetically campy! Simplistic and funny! The best, I have all of the movies on DVD!
Walter had the Jazz Hands as he was being pulled under.
7:37 When Parbrahm Singh of The Loud Guys channel saw this scene, he asked "Why would the monster leave the face like this? Isn't the face delicious?" which was even funnier in his Hindi accent.
That's another good reaction channels. Every time I watch anything from their regular reaction channel and movie reaction channel I always turn my volume way down before opening on of their videos
"We plan ahead, that way we don't do anything right now. Earl explained it me." is one of cinema's great lines.
Fred Ward was born on December 30, 1942. Jon Bernthal was born on September 20, 1976. Fred Ward was 47 years old when this movie came out. Jon Bernthal was 13 years old when this movie came out. Fred Ward's acting career 1973-2015. Jon Bernthal's acting career 2002-present.
YES! One of my all time favourite movies. A simple yet effective concept executed perfectly and with a stellar cast portraying fun and interesting characters who actually think and actually try to survive. And Bacon and Ward have a brilliant on-screen buddy chemistry. Love it!
Yeah. For film buffs, this has always marked a very important moment on the evolutional timeline.
The first Monster Movie that features the creature ONLY in the sunlight. No hiding anything. Brilliant.
It has been said (including by me, because I agree) that this is a perfectly paced movie!
It is absolutely wonderful. And people are genuine and "real" in it. (No overt "idiots" doing dumb sh!t. Except the teenager, who is just "being a bored teenager".) And almost everyone gets rather "fleshed out" as actual people.
Also, RIP Fred Ward. (sadly he died a couple years ago, I believe)
So nostalgic. This is a comfort movie for me. Use to watch this on VHS almost every weekend with my grandma when I was a young boy. Cozy vibes.
I love that the OMG Counter had to start BEFORE y'all even began the movie!
The gun that Burt Gummer calls his "elephant gun" is a William & Moore model 14 8-gauge double-barrell shotgun. It fires a 3/4 inch brass solid shot shell (firing it causes so much heat that the plastic casing used on standard shells would melt, hence the brass casing). Given the weapon's weight and unwieldy nature, it has a niche use, specifically when hunting extremely large game like elephants (hence the nickname), hippopotami, and rhinoceri -- all of which can shrug off fire from smaller shotguns.
I loved these movies growing up. At least 1-3 and the one TV season on Sci-Fi channel.
Fun franchise for the first several revisits-- it never takes itself too seriously and the cast is always having fun.
I saw an interview with one of the guys who wrote this film. He was hiking in the desert and sat down to rest on a rock. He then had the idea "what if there was something underground after me and i couldnt get off or it would get me". After a few years he returned to the idea and they made the movie.
Tremors was an homage to the old 50’s “creature features”…..a personal favorite genre
The film bombed during its theatrical release, but found success in the still new VHS rental market. It became super popular as a rental and home video to buy. Another great cult classic that happened with is Office Space.
What a great movie! A well deserved OMG count of 37 on the Simone Scale.
Great casting, great sharp screenplay, awesome practical effects, cool premise, and chemistry among the cast is S tier. Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward should’ve done so many more films together.
Such a great movie. Knows exactly what it is and executes it brilliantly.
The great thing about the Pepsi cola machine being faulty is that Earl's decision that they would not fix it at the beginning of the film laid the groundwork for Walter's death later. It's a fabulous bit of set-up and pay-off.
